Trevor was fully awake now.

The state of madness he had previously been in was gone and replaced by one of sadness. The old memories were slowly coming back to him. However, a lot was still unclear to him.

With the exception of Trevor's family-related memories, the basics of social interaction, and a few sparse things like knowing a friend's name from school, everything else was as dark as the pitch of the night.

Luckily, in this sea of darkness, there was the glow of instinct guiding him. He didn't understand it, but it was there for sure. Trevor might not remember how to properly use a lighter, but just by touching it and seeing it, he felt his 'intuition' showing him how to turn on such object.

"What a horrible feeling. I wonder what my past-self would say if I saw myself in this situation." His green eyes navigated the dirty and dimly lit hallway, stopping at his own body as he noticed the torn clothes covering his body.

"Haha, if my dad saw the state of these facilities he would have a heart attack. These bastards no doubt wanted to do something hidden." The silver lining in this experiment was that not only were his earlier memories swept under the rug, but his innocence was gone along with them.

Trevor's pupils had acclimated to the bright surroundings during the period he was observing the appearance of this decrepit hospital. "Unfortunately, I still can't get out because of this crap tying up my body."

He tried to untie his right arm upwards, but a leather strap held this member's movements rather firmly. The same was true of the rest of his body, only Trevor's head was exempt from such impediment.

"Damn…"

The worst thing was not even the difficulty in moving, but the pain it caused.

Even without the doctor's reminder, he knew he needed rest.

But who was he? He was Trevor Anirth, son of Jake Anirth!

"Don't worry dad, I'll get out of here and rescue you!"

Blood seeped, staining the white fabrics with a scarlet color.

Pain assaulted the young man's mind, but he did not give up.

"Aaaahggaaaahh!"

His arm was now free!

"HAHAHA!"

Trevor felt sheer joy!

"I'LL-!"

The arm he had just freed from those leather straps by pulling him back twisted at a horrible angle!

The fragile bone that supported the limb was completely broken!

Blood spurted onto the floor as if a pipe of tomato juice had broken nearby.

Trevor's conscience was crushed under immense pain.

The poor lad barely managed to celebrate before he passed out.

.

.

.

Hours later, Trevor opened his eyes.

People wearing white clothes appeared under his gaze. Trevor could easily recognize what those people were, they were doctors just like his father. Which, in other words, meant that they were actually the culprits behind his current miserable situation!

Trevor closed his eyes and continued in the same position as before, pretending to be asleep. At the same time, he concentrated on feeling his right arm. Surprise welled up in his mind when Trevor noticed that his injury had disappeared without leaving even the slightest trace of aftereffects!

'Have doctors always been this good?' Resisting the temptation to open his eyelids, and catch a glimpse of what had happened precisely to his arm, proved to be difficult. In addition to that, Trevor had always been a little bit curious about medicine due to his father, so he sort of knew the deplorable state his arm was in.

At least, Trevor thought so.

The doctors in front of him began to argue, and slowly Trevor came to understand his current situation better. Apparently, a strange liquid was injected into him after he woke up for the first time.

'But why? Was I dying? Did they save me? What did they gain from it? Was it just an experiment?' Trevor wondered, keeping his eyes tightly closed. However, life was not always as constant as many would want.

"Let's just inject another charge into him."

"Another load? Didn't you see what happened to his arm? If this idiot gets another dose, he's going to die for sure!" Emona increased her tone with each sentence she said, in order to denote her state of dissatisfaction.

Liman shook his head, sighing as he said it. "I understand, but we need to risk it. Even if he dies, he still has very valuable data in his body. Dissecting this guinea pig will both allow us to collect data and help us hide the fact that he went crazy."

"That's it? Do you think our superiors are dumb?"

"Of course not. But what choice do we have? Especially you, Emona. The serum failed and caused damage to him. Look at him, do you think he will be able to wake up?" Trevor felt a pair of eyes laying on his figure.

"What about me? Do you think I didn't realize what you did?" Emona said angrily.

"I did nothing." Liman replied.

"Oh? Sure! It's not like you don't have the option to purposely increase the dosage so that I'm forced to marry you." The female doctor sneered.

"Even if that's really the case, why would I resort to it? The value of successful experiments far outweighs what I can gain from dead and failed experiments!" Liman yelled as he headed towards Trevor with the special serum in hand.

"The amount of money, prestige or anything else would be much greater. And that's not counting that I'm sure you'd love to join me if that was really the case. Also, I-!" The middle aged doctor then reached the slender mummy.

Liman froze abruptly.

A pair of green eyes glowed deep inside his retinas!

Trevor forced the muscles in his face to contract, trying unsuccessfully to show what was supposed to be a sympathetic smile.

What the fuck happened!

Emona was also surprised observing the two of them, but she accepted this fact relatively easily as the feeling of relief in her chest was far greater than the shock she was feeling. In comparison, Liman was still having trouble to close his eyelids.

No one better than in this rotten corridor knew the danger of this special serum!

No! That fact alone wasn't enough to completely upset him.

The problem was… Emona had guessed correctly!

In order to force her to marry him, Liman resorted to the risk of giving his enemies a weakness. That was his resolution! He wanted to dominate Emona even if it would cost him his career as a medical researcher in the long term!

'But why the hell is this rat still breathing? Fuck!' Liman's tongue twitched inside his mouth, scraping against his yellow teeth which had the same color as the Northeastern Desert sands. 'Am I that unlucky? If God really exists, he or she is nothing but a bastard!'

Liman was about to offend every divine entity he knew when a gentle pat touched his left shoulder. That small slim hand was unmistakable to his senses. "Sorry, I was wrong about you."

Emona then turned her gaze to Trevor, who was still forcing himself to smile at them both. "lad, can you tell me how many fingers I have on my hand?" The same hand that had just touched Liman was outstretched, being seen by both of them.

Liman felt his throat go dry as he looked at those fingers. On the other side, Trevor sighed before forcing his vocal chords to voice a low, husky tone.

"Five." Of the five fingers, only the index and middle fingers were visible.

"Very well!" Emona's gleeful smile pierced Liman's soul, reminding him of his plan that had successfully failed. "Now tell me more about you, me and my friend Liman here are very curious to know more about you."

Even out of Emona's sight, Liman nodded to keep his act more credible. Those were the rules of the game, after all. Having lost part of his bet, it was even more important to keep his image noble and fair!

Besides, when he lied to Emona, not everything he said was a complete lie. Liman's years of life taught him that the best way to deceive someone was to distort the truth for your own benefit. Before telling a lie, one must first believe that what he or she is saying, it's true!

"I'm Trevor Anirth, Jake Anirth's only child. He's also a doctor just like you two. Have you ever heard of him?" The auditory quality of Trevor's voice improved with each word he uttered, like a car engine that needed some time before running up to its full capacity.

"Jake Anirth... I've never heard of that name, Liman you-"

"Yes, Jake Anirth. Also known as Dr. Cow Hand, he worked at the Rotland Hospital and became famous after he managed to innovate the way of treating patients, especially in terms of cost-efficiency. I didn't expect to find his son, not even that he had one."

"Ehh, did you know him, Dr. Liman?"

The man who was questioned shook his head sideways. "It's not like you think, your father was famous. Not only because he was able to cure his patients at a low cost, but also because he had a unique personality that earned him the title of Cow Hand."

"Oh." Trevor just showed his disappointment slightly.

"Trevor, right? You don't need to be sad, I'm sure he'll come back to our Pequi Republic eventually. It's a shame that Dr. Anirth disappeared without a trace a few years ago. The truth is, I know a little more about him because I admired his amazing abilities." Liman also showed his disappointment, pursing his own lips down.

Trevor did not believe in this shit.

'His lack of shame is admirable, but let's see how you handle it.' Trevor, however, nodded in front of the doctors. He then prepared to bring the white elephant into that damn corridor.

"Thank you very much Dr. Liman, you are such a good person." The black-haired lad continued to nod his head before stopping suddenly, as if remembering something primordial long forgotten.

"But what happened here? These people around us, why did they die? Why am I like them, in this state?" There was a lot that words could say, but Trevor's dark gaze translated most of it just fine.

The albino mammal arrived, crumbling walls and smashing furniture!

Emona frowned, Liman beside her widened his gentle smile.

"You're young and smart, Trevor. Your father would be proud of you, at least if what I know about him is really correct. However, the truth is, everyone here, including you, has volunteered to be here." Liman also understood something more underlying through Trevor's words, but preferred to pretend to be ignorant.

"Did I end up in this state of my own volition? Are the others around me the same too?" Disbelief rose from his pale face. Trevor refused to believe that any sane people would willingly enter death row.

"Yes, all of you. I'm not exactly sure about their situation, but I recall that some had physical complications or incurable illnesses. Trevor, I'll allow myself to be honest with you: this is all part of an experiment, the dangerous one type."

"What kind of scientific experiment kills almost all of its volunteers?" Trevor almost screamed and exposed his inner thoughts to these two, giving these two psychopaths a good piece of his mind.

Almost.

But decided not to do it in the end.

First, he didn't trust these doctors, why would they even speak the truth to him to begin with? They were just too suspicious!

Second, even if all these statements were true, why the hell would he keep revealing his weakness? His memories' loss was a very serious thing, and it needed to be fixed as soon as possible!

Hence, Trevor just said. "I understand, thank you very much for your sincerity, Dr. Liman. Ah, can you untie my arms and legs? It's not hurting, but it's uncomfortable to be in this position."

"Of course, we'll be releasing you soon." Liman had his back to Trevor, placing the syringe with the special serum on the small white table in front of him. After leaving the medical apparatus to one side, he returned to the female doctor and the young.

"We're both just going to check out your physical condition first. I'm not sure if you remember the first time you woke up, but I had suggested back then that you should avoid moving around. Emona, please take care of the left side and I'll take care of the right one."

The doctors took out their respective knives, and began to cut off parts of the fabric that covered Trevor's figure. Despite being the son of a doctor, the lad in question had no idea what Liman and Emona were looking after in his body.

Anyway, he didn't care too much, there was no way to resist at all.

The important thing was that he would soon be free.

This was the first step to rescue his father!
