Chapter 12
After yesterday's nightmare, I couldn't sleep anymore. I was afraid that the nightmares would return. Yesterday's nightmare felt so real. It felt like I was reliving that moment over again and it was something I tried to avoid but I guess the universe didn't like me. It never did.
I sighed as I drank my hot cocoa from its paper cup. The heat from the paper cup warmed my somewhat cold hands. I was heading to 'slurps of milkshake' to meet Lila because she wanted me to meet someone important. My guess was she wanted to meet her 'friend' or she wanted to matchmake me with another unsuspecting male. My phone vibrated. It was a text from Lila
*Hurry up bird brain*
*I'm sorry, I'm just standing in the middle of the road waiting for a car to run me over*I texted her back. Sarcasm evident in my words
*Just hurry up*
*Fine* I replied and as I was about to keep my phone back into its rightful place I bumped into someone and my hot cocoa slipped from my hand unto the floor
"We have to stop meeting like this cupcake"
Only one human being in the world called me that.
"Sorry about your hot cocoa though. At least it didn't spill all over your shirt" he said with an amused look on his charming face.
Maybe if I ignore him he'll go away
"Avoiding me huh?" he asked and I stopped to face him
"Look I don't know why you feel the need to irritate and frustrate me but please leave me alone. I don't know you so why do you keep disturbing me?" I asked him with a glare
"You look cute when you're angry"
Did he hear anything I said to him
"Stop following me, "I told him
"I will once you stop walking"
"I'll kill you"
"And go to jail" He scoffed "I don't think that's an option"
He was right. It wasn't an option.
"You're a lost cause" I stated
"Hoping to be found by you," he said with a smug look plastered on his face. Oh, how I felt like swiping that look off his face.
"She's here" Lila announced as soon as she saw me
"And I see you've met Ace" she beamed gesturing to the man beside me.
"You mean this creep behind me?"I asked
"He's everything but a creep"Lila commented.
Yeah right.
"So this is Jay"Lila introduced me to a guy with grey eyes.
"I'm Krystabel and you are Lila's boyfriend right?"I asked
"Not yet" he replied
I took a seat and Ace sat down beside me.
"Stop acting like a leech" I whispered to Ace
"I will stop once you stop attracting me," he said with a sly smile. I made a gagging sound to indicate I didn't appreciate his comment.
"So where did you guys meet"I asked Jay
"We first met in New Orleans and then Paris. I was on a business trip"
"Hmmm" I hummed in response
"So is Paris your permanent base or........"
"I'm not sure if it's temporary or not but for the time being it's permanent" he replied
"Interesting so what....."
Before I could finish my sentence Lila hauled me out of my chair.
"We're going to get milkshakes for everyone," Lila said and dragged me to the counter
"3 strawberry and 1 banana, "Lila said to the girl behind the counter
"What was that about," she asked me and I feigned innocence
"What was what about"I repeated her question
"You were interrogating Jay" she stated
"I wasn't"
"You were. Don't deny it, just stop asking him questions okay" I looked at her with a blank expression. She expected an answer from me
"Krystabel?" she warned
"Fine, "I told her
The girl behind the counter handed us the milkshake and we headed back to our table.
"Here you go," she said as she distributed the milkshakes among us
"So Jay what do you do for a living?"I asked and sipped my milkshake quietly. Lila glared at me but I ignored her.
"I'm an engineer" he answered nonchalantly
"How much do you earn monthly?"I asked and for the second time today, Lila hauled me out of my chair.
"Where are you going this time?" Ace asked with an amused expression. It seemed to me that he was always amused.
"Krystabel needs to use the restroom"Lila spoke for me.
"I do not......."
Before I could finish my sentence Lila dragged me away from the table.
"What is it now, "I asked with my arms folded
"You're still interrogating him," she said as she facepalmed
"Look, I'm only trying to watch out for you. What if he's a criminal or a hacker or maybe a serial killer?"I said trying to make her reason with me
"He's none of those besides he's mine and I can watch out for myself" she argued
"Fine then. I won't interrogate your boyfriend anymore" I said and walked back to our table with Lila following closely behind.
"So I've calculated everything and the total amount after my tax has been deducted......"
"I don't need to know but since you're willing to answer me I could give you the benefit of doubt for now but if I ever hear that you made a drop of tears come out of this little angel called Lila I'm going to castrate you," I said with a face that equally matched my serious tone.
"Is she serious?" Jay asked Lila
"Yup, she means every single word"Lila confirmed
"We have a meeting to catch up to"Jay informed me
"A meeting with the bed in whose apartment," I said with an arched eyebrow
"Krystabel" Lila warned
"It's a meeting, a normal meeting, "Lila told me
"You don't have to lie to me besides I don't want to know what you guys do when the lights are turned off in your bedroom"
Lila and Jay turned red in an instant
"I think we should leave now," Jay told Lila
"Yeah, I think so too," Lila said
"Have fun with Ace " Lila said before she was out of my sight.
"You were quiet during the conversation, "I told Ace who seemed to have finished his milkshake while mine was still resting on my palm.
"You amuse me," he told me
"If you're trying to flirt with me it isn't working, "I told him with a bored expression dancing on my face
"A man can only dream," he said with a smile.
"Want to hang out?"Ace asked
"With you?"I asked
"Yes with me" he replied with a shrug
"I guess I could fit that into my schedule"
