8:15 am
It takes a while for the fire to finally die down. Amelia and Aiden sit in the sand around where the market once stood, but now was nothing more than ash and skeletal remains of charred tents. Soot covers them and many others from head to toe. Amelia has her knees under her chin as her body trembles. Aiden sits beside her looking distraught and concerned.
"I'm going to see if they've found anything," he says as he stands.
Amelia doesn't look at him or say anything because she is still in shock over the thought of losing her father. With a sigh, Aiden squats down in front of her and hooks his forefinger under her tear-streak-covered chin, lifting it so he can look into her pale pink eyes. They are dull and swollen from crying.
"Hey... Look at me," Aiden says quietly.
She raises her gaze and looks into his slate eyes. Aiden's features are soft as he looks at her lovingly and full of concern.
