Chapter 2 - Hired

[A/N: Chapter 2 - updated to version 2.]

Sabrina and Harrison strode across the street after the rain had stopped, the two of them went inside a nearby restaurant and sat down at one of the tables at the corner where there were fewer people.

Seeing how she intended to pay, Harrison didn't try to butt in and just let things be. It wasn't like he could afford it anyway, especially so with the place she choose to conduct the 'fake' interview.

But now that they were in a place with a better atmosphere, the appearance of the two inevitably drew the eyes of those walking outside and customers alike. Sabrina, with her outstanding looks, was like a modern princess, not only was her appearance top-notch, her sense of fashion was very refined and had a very rare conservative feeling, such a woman was like a diamond in a world of iron, unique.

But the man seating across her was the total opposite, in this society full of prejudice and malice, men weren't viewed with good eyes, they incurred public wrath just by existing, a situation that could easily be seen through observing the looks he was getting. Had he been thin, small, wearing more respectful clothes, or rich, only then would society spare him of their nonsensical judgment. To make it worse, he was of the manlier breed, a single look was enough to draw a cold breath out of anyone, with such muscles that looked like double that of the others, they even shook in fear, assuming many things just by staring at him.

Sabrina could only apologetically smile, there wasn't much that she could do about this situation, this horrible environment was the result of a few decades of work from the Liberal Party working tirelessly to undermine the image of the opposite sex, race, and culture.

If they could, they would have made men illegal altogether. It was no wonder why there was a powerful migratory movement a few decades prior, which threw the entire planet's economy into disarray as the lack of men-power made clear just how many problems they had to solve as there were quite a few critical things that women refused to do, or were directly incapable of due to heavy requirements on strength and endurance.

Still not every man could leave, back then the narrative portrayed women as the fragile ones with loads of difficulty, but when that 1% that stood on top of society left, they realized just how much better faring than men they were. But like any other tyrannical movement, it wasn't about being fair, it was about hoarding and keeping power, once you create an enemy to the horde, it shall stay like that for a long time.

Coughing, Sabrina lowered her head rather embarrassed. "Sorry... it's just that there weren't any good places with private rooms..."

The side of Harrison's lips twitched but he gave a standard answer. "I don't mind."

Sabrina shook her head, he clearly minded it but knew that there was nothing that could be done. Sighing she went straight to the point. "You said you wanted a job, so I wish to hear about you, what kind of experience and qualifications do you have...?"

Without even thinking much, Harrison answered quickly. "High school finished, 3 years of forced military service, infantry unit 07 in the battle of Rockfelt, the front at Tunissa, and I was also part of SEAL 1 for one year, during the invasion of the Gundara Civilization."

Hearing all those accomplishments, Sabrina smiled bitterly. This was one of the things that the Earth was horrible at the moment and had to depend on the Human Interplanatry Alliance to survive, no matter how technologically advanced they were, women were the most resistant to military service. When the Gundara invaded, they brought up the right to conscript and forced the already low male population to fight for them while also calling out for the assistance of the Alliance.

The war might have lasted for only 5 years, but the casualties were already in the billions on both sides, in the end, the alliance swallowed the enemy resources and land and conducted genocide as the Gundara were a warmongering race that wanted to resist till the last of their species had fallen.

"You... that's truly impressive..." Sabrina eyed him once more and thinking of how strong he was, she thought for a while and opened her eyes wide, could it be that he was...

"Sorry... I was wondering... Were you one of the survivors in the Evolver Project?"

A glint of cold light flashed through Harrison's eyes, the month of torture he suffered seemingly resurfacing on his mind as he remembered that hell he had to go through in order to survive, only humans in peak physical condition could even hope to try out the experiments and many brothers of his died in that thing.

Sucking a mouthful of air, he slowly nodded.

"Then... what tier were you?"

Recalling this term, he lowered his head and replied in a low voice. "Tier 9, a 10x enhancement, zero collateral damage nor collapse of the genetic chain, the one and only of my squad."

At this moment, Sabrina was truly stunned, in order to fight the Gundara race's strange warriors who single-handedly held the power of a small army in one individual, the Alliance had to discover a way to enhance individual power as well, as they couldn't fight against that sort of one-man army with incomparable mobility and firepower. In the end, the Evolver Project was made, and they found a way to break through humans' limitations by unlocking the full potential of their genes.

It was not like there wasn't individual power before that, mages were the greatest example of that, but the Wizardry Association of Merlin had long cut ties with the non-magi society, vowing to wage war if their governments interfered with their business in any way, the agreement was that they would each stand at their own side and never interfere with each other.

Recalling the things that the government reported to the population, she couldn't help but give him a look of respect and pity. Used then discarded like that, what a shit government...

Still, Sabrina smiled happily as she stared at him, he was young and powerful beyond belief, a living legend with tremendous experience! How lucky was she!? So what if she was almost attacked by a pervert? She would gladly try her luck like that again if another person like this were to appear and save her!

Grinning sheepishly, she gave him a stare full of appreciation. "Harrison, would you be interested to become the head of security of my Hermes Pharmaceutical Solutions? I need someone to protect me and also protect my business! Besides that shit company, you were looking to work for would never appreciate you! They are a bunch of feminazi and vixens, hehe!"

Hearing her words, Harrison was almost grinning, she was truly walking in his hands, HPS was a quite well-known company, they even received some of their products together with the MRE during the military campaigns. Heck, he could even see an ad from their company by looking through the restaurant window right now.

"That's a job I can do." Harrison nodded silently, he had seen too many powerful people to care about their identity. "But how much are you willing to pay?"

"What do you say about $15.000 per month?"

Harrison's eyes glittered as he heard the offer but he didn't agree immediately, he was a tough nut to crack, but he wasn't a musclebrain, Harrison was more than aware of his value for the military industry, it's just that many would try to control him and limit his power, which is why he had to resort to this kind of company... the salary of 15 thousand was already top-notch in the industry for this job, but who was he? He was the only tier 9 survivor of the Evolver Project, there might be a hundred people who went through the genetic enhancement therapy, but he was above all of them, and he was even an elite, a member of the SEAL division before he was dismissed.

"With my qualifications, you should be aware that many would be willing to do more than this, right? I know very well how difficult it is to even get a job interview with me being a man, but that doesn't mean it's impossible... Make it 50k and I agree.

Sabrina smiled happily and didn't even try to bargain the amount of money. What was $50.000 for her who earned about fifty million every month in revenue? Her company's profit was about $1.5 bn every year, after all. Almost laughing at how lucky she was, Sabrina brought out her phone and called someone, after giving the phone to Harrison, he gave some information to the person on the other side of the call and turned it off.

After she got her phone back, she smiled at him and said. "Come with me to my company, I'll show you the place and we can get to know each other on the way!"

Harrison stared at her with half narrowed eyes, as someone who was trained to react to the most dangerous individuals in the world, how couldn't he notice the subtle difference in her behavior? Her eyelashes were twitching more frequently, she was leaning much more than before, allowing him to have a better peek of her ample chest, wasn't this an act to try and seduce him?

He could only laugh in his mind, what was he thinking? Why would she try to seduce a poor broke like him? Shaking his head, he got rid of those thoughts and agreed to her invitation.

Since he agreed, Sabrina called someone on her phone and a while later, a car parked outside. The driver was a woman in formal attire and great looks. When the two approached, she got out of the car and went around to open the door for them.

"Madam! Good morning." The woman bowed respectfully as she spoke to Sabrina.

"So it's miss Gabriela who came this time, how have you been? It's been a while since you last drove me around." Sabrina smiled and nodded at her employee.

"Things have been good recently, it's all thanks to Madam's care!" Smiling, she then turned to Harrison and gulped with fear. "M-may ask who is this g-gentleman?"

"Ah, right! I totally forgot!"

After thinking for a while, Sabrina gave a mischievous smile and said. "This here is my new Head of Security, Mr. Harrison Lawford, veteran SEAL soldier! You will be his personal driver from now on!"

"Eh!? Wait, did you say that... EH!?" All color drained from her face as the girl stared at the frightening Harrison and took a step back.

Women in this day and era were much more respected than men, but that didn't mean they had gotten rid of their natural instincts, any woman, no matter how cold and proudful, would cower at the presence of such an intimidating presence like the one Harrison, who was already big and quite scary, emanated unconsciously.

Bowing slightly, Harrison only spoke a few words. "Please, take care of me."

"Ah... t-take care of me as well..." Gabriela was quick to bow and just shrunk her head as she waited for the two to take a sit before returning to her seat.

"Where to, Madam?"

"To the company's HQ!"

"Right away."

On the way there, Harrison couldn't help but shake slightly. Was his life finally taking a turn for the better? He didn't dare be too hopeful, but he still gulped in anticipation, what men wouldn't have ambitions?

Thinking of the promising position of head of security, he could already hear the ka-ching of the money falling from his pockets! His eyes had almost shined at the thought of having money and changing his miserable life!

Looking at his new boss, Harrison silently vowed in his heart to do his best! He wouldn't suck up to her, but he would definitely do an outstanding job! How difficult could it be to protect a company compared to invading an entire planetary system?

Still, that was only the first step, one day, it wouldn't be him praying for a job, it would be her praying for his assistance!
