Tyson's cut was the living meaning of a superficial cut. Tyson had remained sitting in Lynn's bed as he waited for Lynn to find the first aid kit in his bathroom cabinet.
"I don't understand why Sam panicked when she heard that I cut myself. You can't really call it even a cut. Maybe a scrape, see…" Tyson said as he showed his finger to Lynn whose back was facing him, "the cut even stopped bleeding. Could it be that Sam is afraid at the sight of blood?" Tyson's eyes were round as if he had just discovered the biggest secret of the universe.
Lynn just sighed, he was getting used to Tyson's nonsense, but sometimes he went overboard, Lynn was starting to suspect Tyson was brainless, "Tyson, have you seen the smile plastered on Sam when she is smashing zombies? I don't think she fears the sight of blood. I don't think she is scared of anything at all, to be honest."
Lynn returned with the first aid kit. He then inspected Tyson's cut, and just as he had said, the wound had stopped bleeding. It was barely visible, which seemed weird for Lynn since a knife cut could never appear so small.
"Hey, Tyson, are you sure you got cut with the knife?" Lynn asked just out of curiosity. The only reasonable explanation was if Tyson had super-healing powers.
Tyson looked at Lynn confused with the question, "Yes, why would you ask that?"
Lynn just shook his head, "Nothing." He then proceeded to clean the cut and spray some antiseptic on it. He would have skipped the band-aid, but Lynn did not want Sam ranting about it, so he finished by putting a band-aid in Tyson's finger.
"All done." Lynn stood up and put back the first aid kit in the bathroom cabinet.
"Thanks, Lynn! I'm going back down first to see what I can help Sam!" Before Lynn could reply to him, Tyson's footsteps could already be heard far away as he screamed Sam's name.
"He seriously acts like a kid sometimes…" Lynn thought.
In the kitchen, Sam was in her own world and thoughts as she cooked the dinner. She gave a little jump and almost hit Tyson when he touched her shoulder.
"Gosh! T, don't do that again. I could have stabbed you with the knife!"
Tyson looked at her unapologetically, "Look, Sam! Lynn already bandaged my wound. Can I continue helping you?"
Sam with a wooden spoon pointed at Tyson's face as she said, "Stay away from the kitchen, T. I can manage on my own. The kitchen is too dangerous for you. Go and prepare the table if you want."
Tyson pouted but obeyed Sam. Tyson was putting the plates on the table as Viviane came back.
"Hey, Vivs! Lynn is upstairs just in case you are looking for him!" Tyson said with a smile on his face.
Viviane's eyes went directly to Tyson's bandaged finger, "So, pretty boy already got his first kitchen accident?"
"Sort of! In my defense, that was my first time trying to cook something in the kitchen!"
Viviane just sighed and said in a low voice almost as a murmur, "Damn you, Merlin, couldn't you at least leave some kids who were smarter?"
Tyson could not hear Viviane, so he asked, "Did you said something, Vivs?"
Viviane would have liked it if Tyson would not start calling her by nicknames like Vivs, but he did not seem like someone who would stop doing it, so Viviane just let it slip.
"Nothing, I'm going to see how Sam's doing with the meat."
Lynn then came back downstairs and saw Tyson preparing the table, "So… Sam kicked you out of the kitchen?"
"Yeah…"
Lynn then helped Tyson finish preparing the table, and then the two of them left to make the living room a bit cozier.
"Do you think Vivs is going to tell us about her?" Tyson had asked as they re-accommodated some chairs.
"Vivs?"
"Yeah, Viviane."
Lynn looked at Tyson skeptically, Viviane did not look like someone who would let a complete stranger call her by a nickname, "Did she let you call her Vivs?"
Tyson shrugged, "She didn't said a thing about it. She even answered me."
Lynn was surprised by this. "She did said that she would tell us her past with my grandfather after dinner, so I'm hoping to at least know what in the world is happening."
"You know… it's pretty cool all this. Your grandpa trying to help you even though he is… um… is he dead?" Tyson asked realizing that Lynn had not really said his grandfather was dead or not.
Lynn shook his head, "Legally, yes. He went missing a few years ago, no one ever found him. So, after seven years, which was last year, before my parents' accident, they declared him dead."
"Do you believe he is dead? You know… Vivs can summon ice, and she says he is the Wizard Merlin. There is no way someone like him can die," Tyson said as he put back a pillow in the loveseat.
Lynn was starting to feel uncomfortable. He had never liked talking about his grandfather after his disappearance. Merlin was more of a parent to Lynn than Lynn's own parents. Lynn never hated his parents. He had sort of a good relationship with them when he could see them. This rarely happened because his mother was a physician, and his father was a researcher. Both of them were famous for innovative treatments.
"No… T, I don't think he is dead, but Vivs here proves it otherwise. If my grandfather was still alive, he would have come to help me himself. He would have never sent another person."
"I… I'm sorry, Lynn," Tyson said as he patted Lynn's shoulder.
"Don't worry, Tyson…" Lynn said in a low voice trying to hide his sadness. Just as Tyson was about to say another thing, Sam's voice came from the kitchen yelling to the guys that the food was ready.
