C9: Getting a Name

"Wow, didn't thought that it would turn out like this."
Even if Bane didn't know much about monsters, named monsters have always been rather rare. And whenever they existed, they had been stronger than the peers.
'So names have that kind of effect huh?'
If Bane were to compare his original stat of '3' which was indeed nothing praiseworthy, then a +10 raise was really substantial making him different that the pack.
"Are you happy?" Silvia asked.
Bane could only nod.
'It must have been her who caused this. It would be a great help.'
"Yes, thank you."
Bane didn't mind having her name.
It would be a way for him to make sure that people remember her through him even after her death.
And who knows? It might give her a reason to leave behind her grudge and move on.
"Say, if you fail to reincarnate and manage to move onto heaven..."
"Hmm?"
"You might meet someone by the name Ayn Rayna there."
"Is she dead too?"
"Yes, and if you do meet her, can you pass on my message?"
"Hmm, okay. What is it?"
"Tell her that I miss her."
Even if Silvia had no strength in turning around and checking out for herself the state Bane was in. But just from her voice she could confirm that he was visibly shaken.
And she felt like she knew why.
The more she about it the more she couldn't control her anger for the people who had harmed Bane and caused his life to go in a mess.
Perhaps Bane felt the same about her too?
"Do you perhaps love her?"
Some form of attachment was definitely there between this Ayn and Bane.
Even if it wasn't said out aloud it was clear as a day.
But, Bane shook his head.
"Not really. She believes that most girls would be out of league for someone like me, and so I should lower my standards and be satisfied with someone like her instead."
"Pfft, that's so hilarious."
Silvia started laughing.
But Bane could only wonder how she could laugh only in telepathy but make no expression on her face. Her face was so lifeless. Perhaps her physical condition was too bad for her to laugh?
"I know. She can be really unreasonable at times."
"Don't you have anything else you want to tell her? You should tell me now for I myself am not sure how many more days I will last."
"..."
Bane was at a loss for words.
It was true that she wasn't going to last much days with a body like that.
But even so she won't be given an easy death.
Even her body won't be left intact. It would be fed to goblins to feast.
But even before that she would be relentlessly raped in her last few days.
"About that... I have another request to make."
"What's that? Another message?"
"No."
Bane shook his head.
"Rather, can I kill you?"
"..."
A heavy silence followed.
Bane kept waiting for a response.
While Silvia didn't know what to say.
"W-why? I thought that you like m-me."
Bane shook his head as he sighed.
He explained everything that he had learned so far ever since he had come to this world.
The mechanics of the fuck nest was what would determine her death too.
But if Bane kills her before that, she would be able to die peacefully.
Ever since the very beginning this was Bane's objective.
He couldn't bear to see a comrade suffer in pain in front of his own eyes.
And certainly a mother getting raped in front of her child wouldn't be the best tale to tell even if he was a goblin.
"So Silvia, can you escape from here?"
"No, I don't think that's possible. I already don't feel anything down there."
Bane turned around as he checked out her blood soaked thighs. Or rather the blood had already clotted and turned black making a think layer on her pale skin
"So, that's why I must kill you before all of that."
"I see. But will you be able to do it? Even though you like me..."
"I am a goblin. A heinous goblin. Killing humans comes to me as second nature."
Bane nodded quite convinced.
"Ha ha, you aren't heinous at all. The fact that you care about me so much is proof of that."
Bane choose to ignore Silvia's last words.
'Just who the hell wouldn't care about their comrades? Except for those heinous bastards who call themselves humans.'
Bane did have some bitter memories associated with it that he didn't want to remember.
Bane got up as he gradually pulled down Sylvia's figure that had been resting against the wall. Her figure came down as it fell onto the cold and piss soaked floor.
But while he was doing all of that, there was something that Silvia noticed. She could only point it out.
"Isn't that my ring?"
"It's yours?"
"Yes, that's my engagement ring."
"I just happen to find it among a pile of rubble."
Bane chose to omit out that the pile was of 'human flesh' instead. Something that he had considered food.
Bane checked out his index finger again.
It was true that he had found it among the pule of food from a random hand.
'So that hand that I tossed away was Silvia's huh? Well, its already eaten by some baby goblin.'
Bane's eyes naturally turned to her shoulder which didn't have her arm attached anymore. The rest could be anyone's guess.
'She had enough mana to give me a name. So I guess it is understandable that she would have a magic ring perhaps? Just what kind of backgroud is she from?'
But all of that would be unimportant after her death.
"Do you want it back?"
"Nah, you can keep it. I don't even have fingers to wear it anymore. And it will make you remember me at least, don't you dare remove it."
"Easy for you to say. It's a one use item that automatically gets destroyed upon use."
"Umm, at least try to keep it safe okay?"
"Fine."
If that was Silvia's last wish before death then Bane would try to keep it for her. But he can't guarantee it since he might need to use it on emergency.
"Goodbye, Silvia. I will miss you."
"Like wise."
Bane took out a bangle. A half bangle to be exact.
It was one of the decorative accessories he had collected from amongst his food. It didn't have any magical properties for sure but when broke from the middle the pieces can act as a sharp object.
'For kiilling someone painlessly like her who is already at death's door, this would be enough.'
Bane struck out as he slit open her throat.
But even as he did that he was unable to face her.
"Ack!"
With a single sweep, his mother was already dead.
Bane's small hands had turned bloody from top to bottom.
But even amongst those bloody hands there was a shiny ring that glittered brightly.
"Come to think of it, she could have easily avoided getting captured by goblins if she were to use the ring. Wouldn't she? Could it be that she couldn't use it somehow or perhaps..."
There didn't seemed to be any particular restriction imposed for the activation of the ring. Had there been one Bane might have seriously reconsidered his options in case of a goblin extermination raid.
But since there weren't any, Bane could only conclude that the reason was for Silvia's choice was the latter.
But Bane had no idea what it was exactly.
"Rest in peace, Silvia."

A series of message popped up as the old age robotic voice came back again replacing Silvia's sweet voice.
Bane stared at the screen expressionless. This was the kind of situation where he couldn't be happy even if he wanted to.
"I gained a ton of levels. Probably because I killed an adult human."
Then he checked out the last choice that was given to him.
"Evolution, huh?"
Bane had no idea how that came along. For all he knew was that humans didn't evolve.
"Perhaps it has something to do with monsters? Grigeuk."
It was something that Bane was cheking out for the first time so he had to be careful what to pick or else it might become a mess.
"Yes, let's evolve now."
