Chapter 12

SCARLET'S POV

I knock on Adam's door and wait for him. When he answers he gives me a big smile. He invites me inside and we go to his bedroom. I look around. I'm not surprised to see that it's a bit messy. I can just envision Adam tripping over some of the mess and I bite my lip to stop myself from laughing.

Aside from the mess, he's got a few pictures of him and his family. I look at them - it's weird to see a family looking so happy together. Is that even possible? And is it possible to dads' smile as big as Adam's father is smiling in these photos?

I flinch when I see Adam waving his hand in front of my face. I must have zoned out.

"You're staring at my pictures. That was when we went to Rome when I was about... 10, I think,"

"Cool. I'm guessing them two are your siblings,"

"Yep. My older brother and my younger sister,"

"Are they annoying?"

"No. I'm the one that annoys them,"

I roll my eyes, "Of course,"

"What about you? Do you have any siblings?"

"No,"

Adam looks shocked, "How do you survive without siblings?! Do you wish you had them?!"

"Not really, no. I guess my cousins are like my siblings. So maybe that's why I don't mind." I say this to Adam so he won't get worried. In truth, I would love to have siblings. But I wouldn't want them to suffer from Silas. If I have a brother, he would be fine, but if I had a sister, she would be screwed.

"Anyway, I thought you needed my help. What are we standing around chatting for?"

"Damnit," he mutters under his breath.

"I heard that. Now go get your shit out,"

"Can we just talk a little while longer?"

"No,"

"Ugh!" Adam dramatically drags his feet over to his desk. He opens his laptop and gets it set up.

"I'm sorry I always ask you for help, by the way. I hope I'm not bugging you,"

"No no, it's fine. I'm happy to help." I feel like I'm important and I actually matter whenever he asks for my help. It makes me feel good. I feel myself blush so I turn my head away.

Adam loads up his resume. He lets me sit down at his desk then I scroll through his document.

"The intro looks pretty good,"

"My brother helped me,"

"I can tell. It slowly gets worse,"

"Oh..."

"Not to worry, I can still understand it. You just need to sound more professional,"

"But I don't know how,"

"I'll make some edits. Just give me a minute." I set to work. I put my earphones in and listen to some soothing piano music. I know I wouldn't be able to hold back if I listen to anime openings.

"Alright, I'm done." I swivel around in the chair to see Adam laying on his bed looking at his phone. I frown, take my music out, shove my phone and earphones in my pocket, then sit down on the edge of the bed.

"Oi." I look over my shoulder and snap my fingers in his face. He flinches and drops his phone on his face. "Tch!" I try my hardest to suppress my laughter.

"What was that for?! I was in the middle of a very intense game!"

"Calm down. I just snapped my fingers." I look at him with a serious look and he frowns at me. He then turns on his side and continues his game.

"Oi!" I poke his back which is facing me. He doesn't respond. I begin to poke it multiple times.

I get fed up. I stand up and turn him so he's lying on his back. I pin his shoulder down with my left hand so he can't move. I rest my right hand on the bed as I lean forward.

"Please don't do this. I'm tired, and hungry." I state in a serious voice.

"No wonder you're starved of fun. D'ya see what I did there?!"

"Tch! I'll eat you in a minute if you continue to be annoying." I frown at him, and he suddenly clams up. I think he remembered I'm 'possessed' by a demon and would be able to psychically eat him. Thinking this, I decide to intimidate him even more. I lean in closer and smirk at him. His face goes red and he looks away, biting his lip.

"Now now, don't look away from me." I hold his face and turn it to me as I lean in more until my head is right above his. I stare into his big green eyes which are filled with nervousness. "You would make a pretty good meal, to be honest. Just a little salt and pepper then you'd be perfect for dinner." His face goes even redder. He tries to move his head, but I make sure my hand has a steady grip on his face.

I feel it. The thrill. The adrenaline rush when I sense peoples' fear. The feeling when I have power over others and could do anything I wanted to them. That feeling engulfs me. I become impulsive. I want to intimidate Adam even more. Why? Because I want to. I want to see his scared face, his scared eyes. And I know just the thing to get that reaction out of him.

"Y-your eyes..." Adam whimpers, pointing at my red irises. I bare my fangs in a smirk and he whimpers even more.

"You don't seem so cocky now, do you?" He hesitates, then timidly shakes his head no.

I giggle, then whisper in his ear, "I never knew humans could be somewhat entertaining." I feel him shiver and that makes me even more thrilled. I glide my fingers along his soft cheek and savour the feeling of him shivering under my touch. It's a good feeling.

I'm surprised I've not gotten bored. Usually, with my victims, I would get bored really quickly and just kill them. I guess the fact that I won't be killing him makes it even more thrilling, because I will be able to do this again. Having thought that, I slowly release my grip on him.

"I've had enough playtime for today. Make sure you don't get nightmares." I flash him a wink before leaving his dorm. I keep my head down to hide the smirk on my face.

***

I try not to fall asleep during gym class. Everything is so tedious. The humans are so slow. Of course, I've been winning everything. Everyone thinks I'm so athletic, but in reality, demons have more strength and stamina than humans. Obviously, I don't tell them. I just ignore them and go on my phone. The teacher proceeds to tell me off, but I give them a stern look and they back off. I chuckle then sit at a bench. I keep my head down and aimlessly scroll on my phone.

I sense Viktor's presence as he sits down next to me. Thankfully he doesn't try to talk to me. I think he can tell I'm not in the mood for a conversation.

"Fucks sake!" I curse as I remember that I have to deal with another idiot tonight. I just wanted to stay in tonight. I shove my phone in my pocket then glance around as if looking for someone. Bingo! I watch Adam participate in class as I think about our encounters - especially our last one.

"Who are you staring at?"

"That human," I answer Viktor bluntly while pointing.

"Adam? How come? I thought you didn't like him,"

"Me too. But he's actually a somewhat entertaining human,"

"Is that a good thing or a bad thing?"

"...A bit of both." I continue to stare. After a while, his eyes meet mine. I give him a smirk. His face turns red and he looks away. I chuckle, before deciding to approach him. It's my turn to be the annoying one. I want to act as normal as possible to watch him squirm with nervousness.

ADAM'S POV

I cautiously watch Scarlet as she grabs a tennis racket and approaches me.

"Oi, we're playing against each other," she demands then makes her way to the other side of our court. I notice how some people move away from her as she gets closer to them.

Throughout the whole game, I am distracted. I am scared Scarlet is going to whack the ball in my face, and I am also just confused. I don't know what to make of this situation. Is it a good thing, or should I be concerned?

"You suck at tennis," Scarlet comments after our game ends.

"I don't suck! You're just really good,"

"Yeah yeah," Scarlet rolls her eyes. We put our equipment away and head over to the changing rooms. I can hear people whispering about her on the way there, and I begin to feel uneasy. I glance at Scarlet and see she's tensed up. I get nervous. I hope she doesn't beat them up.

Once I've finished changing, I go up to Scarlet and see she's on her phone, ready changed. She looks in my direction. I act normal and give her a big smile. She frowns in response. I giggle then poke her shoulder a couple of times to get her attention. She turns her head to me then out of nowhere some random guy falls at her feet. The guy looks up and meets Scarlet's angry gaze. He look paralysed in fear - I feel sorry for him.

I cautiously look at Scarlet. I shiver when I see the look in her eyes. I'm not surprised the guy on the floor is shaking.

"Shoo," Scarlet mutters. The guy scurries away. I hesitantly talk to her.

"Uhh... you okay there?"

"Stupid humans." She walks away really fast and I have to jog to keep up with her. I try to tell her to slow down but she doesn't listen.

"Why do you always have to walk so fast, huh?" I spit out while struggling to regain my breath.

"Are you really that tired from walking?"

"I wasn't walking! I was trying to keep up with you but you're too darn fast!"

"Pfft! Lazy,"

"I'm not lazy!"

Scarlet turns around and point her finger in my face, "Yes you are. Don't bother trying to deny it,"

"Ugh!"

"I'm sorry, but it's the truth, you lazy cunt,"

"Hey! Leave me alone. I'm perfectly capable of doing productive stuff,"

"Oh really?"

"Yeah!"

"Prove it. In our next class, I want you to pay attention and take as many notes as you can,"

'Shoot!' I hesitate before answering, "Fine, I'll do it cuz I'm not lazy,"

"I can't wait to see this momentous occasion. You finally won't be begging me for the notes,"

"Do I get something in return for this?"

"Aside from knowing what is going on in class, you get nothing,"

"Come on! Please?!" I give her my puppy dog eyes and she stares at me with a serious face. We both stand there before Scarlet turns her face away - blushing - and continues walking.

"Fine! What do you want? A cookie?"

"We are going out somewhere after classes. You cannot say no. And I also want that cookie,"

"Do I have to come?"

"Yep! That's the rules! I prove to you I'm not lazy then I get to take you somewhere,"

She rolls her eyes, "Fine,"

I clap my hands together in excitement "Yay!" I joyfully speedwalk my way to class. I can't wait to hang out with her. I make a mental note to take her to an open space so she won't get uncomfortable.

We enter the classroom and I make way for the back seats where Scarlet likes to sit. I turn around and see her sitting at the front. I rush to sit next to her so the seat won't get taken.

"Why're you sitting there?" I ask as I prepare my notebook and pen.

"You won't be able to slack off now. The teacher will be able to see you,"

"That makes sense,"

While we're waiting for the teacher to arrive, I randomly end up thinking about yesterday. I did not expect Scarlet to suddenly act so bold. It was completely out of character for her. Or maybe it was the demon's doing? Either way, I don't know how to interpret it. It was somewhat mesmerising, yet frightening. I have never seen eyes that red before - only in movies. And I've only seen fangs like that on animals. It's weird to think that they can appear on humans. However, I can't deny that they made her look really cool. Especially her eyes. They suited her so well.

I glance at Scarlet out of the corner of my eye. I see she's doodling in her notebook. She looks so cute all serious when drawing. It's strange - she seems like a normal human, but she's actually possessed by a demon. I don't know what I would do if the demon took over her and started attacking me. I just hope it doesn't resort to that.

The teacher walks in and I suddenly remember that I'm supposed to pay attention. I don't know how I'm going to concentrate - especially with yesterday's events replaying in my head. To be honest, I would rather be there than in class. Even though I was in potential danger, it is still more exciting than note-taking.

***

My hand hurts. My eyes are shutting. The class is engulfed in darkness as we're watching a video. I feel like I'm going to fall asleep. I slowly lean forward. The desk looks too comfy all of a sudden.

I jump up when I feel a pinch on my arm. I meet Scarlet's stern gaze.

"Don't fall asleep, you idiot," she whispers.

"I wasn't falling asleep. I was just admiring the desk and wanted to get a closer look,"

"Tch!"

"Come on. I've been productive this whole lecture,"

"You have, actually,"

"Ha!"

"Sssh!" She holds her finger in front of her lips and I lower my voice.

"Oops. Sorry,"

"Whatever. Just focus on the video."

"Okay." We both resume watching and I still feel sleepy. I feel my stomach rumble now. Damn it, I'm hungry. I start crying on the inside then try to give myself a motivational pep talk.

'Come on, man. The lecture is almost over! After this, you get to hang out with Scarlet! And you get a cookie!'

The lecture finally ends. I resist the urge to celebrate. I begin to pack my things way then out of the blue Scarlet snatches my notebook and flicks through it.

"What are you doing?" She doesn't reply. She reads through a couple of pages then hands it back to me.

"Looks like your not as lazy as I thought,"

"I told you!"

"You just need the right kind of motivation,"

"You can be my motivation,"

"Shut up,"

"Hehehehehehe,"

"Anyway, I'll get you a cookie then you can take me wherever,"

"Yay!" I grab Scarlet by the arm then drag her to the cafeteria. She keeps protesting but I don't listen.

Scarlet tenses up as we enter the crowded cafeteria.

"C-can we wait for the c-crowd to go away?" She stutters as she hangs her head.

"Sure!" I take her to a quieter place and we wait.

"Wait, you don't have any more classes now?"

"Yeah, I'm free,"

"Same." She crosses her arms and looks to the floor.

"It's fine if you don't like crowds. To be honest, I don't like them either. I was glad you suggested going to a quieter place,"

"Yeah." I frown as Scarlet becomes quiet. I can tell she's nervous but I don't know why.

SCARLET'S POV

After dropping our bags off at our dorms, we head out. I'm still pissed off that I got anxious in front of Adam. He probably thinks I can't do anything on my own. He probably thinks need a guide with me everywhere I go.

"Hey, look at that." Adam points to something weird in the window display and starts laughing. His positive energy is contagious and I start giggling. We both laugh as he points out more weird stuff.

We come across a bookstore and I can't take my eyes off of it. I stop and stare inside the glass window.

"Amazing," I whisper to myself. "Can we go here please,"

"Of course. I'm coming too," I practically run into the store before Adam can finish his sentence. I take a look around. This place is so nice.

"Ehehehe, I remember these when I was younger." I watch Adam look through the kids' section with nostalgia in his eyes. He shows me the book then tells me what happens in it. As always, he's got a big smile on his face. I somehow end up focusing more on him than the actual book. I don't know how to explain it. He looks somewhat... c-cute?

"Look over there," I announce then practically run for it. I did not just think that. There's no way I did. I've probably simped too hard and am getting him mixed up with a character. Yeah, that's it.

***

I stand in an alley smoking. It's midnight, and I'm waiting for a cunt that owes me money. To be honest, I don't care much - I'm already rich as it is. I just love it when people frantically try to gain enough money to pay me for my services. Aside from the killing, this is another entertaining factor.

I look through social media while I wait, and rapidly screenshot every picture of a hot character I see. I randomly get a message from Adam. I'm startled - I thought he would be sleeping right now. I shrug and see what he's sent. It's a meme. I respond to it, then talk to him.

'Why are u still awake?' I ask.

'Why are u still awake?'

'Because I am. Wbu?'

'🤫🤫'

'Don't fall asleep on me in class.'

'It sounds tempting, but I'll try not to.' I blush and quickly switch my phone off then shove it in my pocket. An image of him falling asleep and resting his head on my shoulder pops in my head. Yep, I've read too much romance shit.

I hear footsteps and I instantly tense up. I sense the area, then conclude that the cunt finally showed up. And he's brought someone with him. They both look at me all tough, but I know they're scared. I can sense it.

"So, do you have the money?" I get straight to the point. I really can't be bothered with these guys. They don't reply, and I frown. I sense something is off.

One of the men try to attack me, but I kill him out before he can even lay a finger on me. The other one tries to sneak attack me, but I kill him as well.

"Tch!" I steal their wallets then shove them in my pocket, before wandering around the city.

I arrive at the supernatural club. It's a really good place for creatures to meet up, blow off some steam and have a good time. I enter and before I can sit in my usual seat, I spot Aiden. I sigh and make way for the exit. Before I can even touch the door, Aiden steps in front of it, blocking my way.

"Tch!" I turn around and head to my usual seat. Of course, he follows me. I aggressively take a seat and he sits next to me.

'Great! This is going to be a loooong night!' I heave out an exasperated sigh.

"How about I buy you a drink, doll?"

"You know I don't drink,"

"Come on. Just this once?" He moves closer to me with a suggestive smirk on his face.

"I wouldn't piss me off if I were you. I literally just killed two men, roughly half an hour ago,"

"Ooh. Do tell." He rests his head on his hand. I move my face closer to his, smirking.

"Well, it wasn't really interesting. I just slit their throats. They were dead before they could realise what I'd done." I slide my hand up his leg, his torso, then reach his throat. I grip it tightly. "And you will be too if you don't leave me be. I am not interested in you, and never will be,"

He holds my wrist that is at his throat, "And why is that? I doubt you have anyone else on your mind." For some reason, I immediately think of Adam. Aiden looks shocked. "You do? I'd never thought I'd see the day,"

"Sh-shut up! I don't have anyone in mind!"

"Quit lying!"

"Well... They're just a toy!"

"Are they really just a toy?" I hesitate, before snapping. I throw Aiden to the ground but he brings me with him. I land on top of him. I try to move away but he holds me in place.

"Why can't I be your toy. I'd be even better than your current one. Or even better, you be my toy. What do you say?" He whispers in my ear.

"I'm not gonna be your toy!"

"Are you sure about that?" He bites his lip, eyes filled with lust. I'm not going to let his good looks get to me. At the end of the day, he's my biggest rival. I can't let him get to me.

I decide to turn the tables. I move my lips to his ear and whisper, "You're lucky Silas isn't alive. If he was, I would get him to sort you out." I feel victorious. However, my victory is short-lived. Aiden starts laughing. He's not taking me seriously as I hoped.

"Tch!" I thrust myself out of his grip then speed walk away before he has the chance to find me. Once outside in the cool night air, I sigh. I hate how he never takes me seriously. Every time I get angry, it turns him on. I can never get him to leave me alone.

In a swift moment of anger, I point my finger to a bin and set it ablaze. I aimlessly wander. I don't feel like going to sleep just yet. I'm afraid I'm going to have nightmares.

***

My head is killing me. I feel so sluggish. Adam keeps tapping me awake as my eyelids shut. I can tell this is entertaining for him, but I just ignore it. He keeps giggling but I don't respond.

I enter my dorm and am surprised to see him follow me inside.

"Wait... Why are you here?" I yawn mid-sentence.

"I asked if I could follow you, and you said whatever. So here I am,"

"Oh. Okay." I enter my dorm, Adam following excitedly behind me. I ignore him then flop on the sofa. He sits next to me then starts poking my cheek. "What?"

"Do you need to sleep? I can go I can you want,"

"No, it's fine. I can manage,"

"You sure,"

"Yeah. I do this all the damn time,"

"Okay!" Adam gives me a thumbs up and I roll my eyes. He then begins to talk enthusiastically. I listen to him and unconsciously use my powers to make a cushion float towards me. Adam looks at me shocked and somewhat scared. I realise what I just did.

"Oh shit! Sorry." I'm conflicted. I really want to tell him I'm a demon, but at the same time, I don't want to drag him into the supernatural world. He's too... childish, to handle the supernatural world.

After pondering this decision, I just think 'Fuck it.' I'm too tired to keep hiding my powers. Also, I'm bored, and it's quite entertaining making him quiver in fear.

"Oi, I'm a demon,"

"Huh?"
