A few weeks ago
While Lanis was still living on Earth Tom was also living his normal life. He did not have a depressing story or anything that really stood out. He had two parents that loved him and did what they could for him. He was not a loner with no friends, he was a bit of a nerd who liked to read web novels but he still worked out occasionally and tried his best not to be antisocial.
He did not die saving someone heroically or being run over by a truck in the street. He had an undiagnosed health condition and after a tragic heart attack at the young age of 16 he died without being able to say goodbye to his family or friends.
Tom opened his eyes with a terrible headache and was confused by his location. He expected to be in a hospital or possibly even heaven after he collapsed but why was he in a forest with no one around. Suddenly a blue screen appeared in front of him
< Congratulations you have been chosen for reincarnation>
Although Tom had read reincarnation novels, he was having a hard time understanding what was happening to him.
Tom's confusion only grew trying to figure out what this screen meant but he had no time to think about it before his last system menu appeared.
Tom's mind was instantly blacked out as he couldn't even handle a second of the information pouring into his head. When he woke up, he caught his breath before he saw the screen in front of him.
Tom lasted slightly longer the second time but still couldn't handle the amount of information and the speed that it was being pressed into his brain. It had to be said that the huge amount of information he was receiving didn't even compare to the small amount Lanis had gotten when he first reincarnated.
After what seemed like forever, the process was over and Tom had a much more fortified mental strength and more knowledge than some could get in an entire lifetime.
The information took several forms in Tom's brain, some of it felt like memories, some seemed like photos that he could look at, sometimes he simply knew the information like he spent years studying it himself. However, there was one part that seemed different as Tom focused on it, he felt like he was sucked into a long-lost memory.
Tom was sitting in a room across a table from an old man sipping tea. The old man smiled put down at the tea. It was all much more real than a memory and it seemed like it was happening in the present.
"I am sure what you have just gone through is very disturbing but I will try to help you, my name is Caxon and I am what you would call a lich. However, I feel like that has a very negative connotation so I like to call myself a summoner. I do not have much time and I was told to not share personal information and keep it to my technique so most of my teachings will be hiding in the rest of the information but be sure to pay attention to it.
I will tell you the most important part and that is not any technique but an idea. Never forget your fundamentals and basic training. You are receiving a very powerful ability and it would be easy to only use that and never learn anything else but you must never lose to this temptation.
Your mana control and purity of your mana core will always be what sets you apart from any other mage. No one is called a genius because they know one skill, it is the ability to learn and adapt to anything and for that you need to be a master at the fundamentals.
"This world is very harsh and the only real law is strength. While you are still weak you will be stepped on and pushed around but hold your head up as you now carry the legacy of the greatest necromancer to ever live. I hope one day you will surpass me and maybe I will even be alive to hear of your exploits."
The man seemed to have a very sad face as he started disappearing and the area Tom was in started to shrink towards him.
"Good luck, and never stop trying, no matter what it is. If you don't stop you have already succeeded."
Those were the last words the man said.
Tom tried to enter the space again but now it was like all the other information was only a memory, however it was still the most clear and easy to remember memory he was given.
Tom had never seen this man before but he still paid close attention and started going through the memory again and again making sure not to miss anything. As Tom went through what Caxon said he could feel the mage's emotions and how much he truly cared for Tom even though the two had never meet.
Other than this memory the information was much harder to understand. Every now and again there would be a joke from Caxon along with a chuckle or life advice and information on what this world was like, but most of it was very serious as though Caxon was a teacher who was being reviewed.
Caxon stated that mana control is something one must feel by themselves but he gave him hints and documented his own feelings.
The largest part of the inheritance was definitely the reason Caxon was known as a lich, it was the ability to control death. By turning his mana into a force called necromantic power and connecting it to his own soul, Tom could connected recently killed souls that were crossing to the other side to his soul and reanimate them using mana.
The strength of the original soul compared to Toms made huge differences on how hard this would be, and the reanimation would not be as powerful as the original but it was still an ability that took Caxon thousands of years to master and it allowed him to reach a level very few mages would ever get to.
Tom immediately sat down and tried to digest all of his new found information.
