Tom still did not have a clear idea on what exactly he needed to do. Although he knew he needed to act like every person he meets was a reincarnator that didn't help him what his immediate next step should be.
Tom followed the road until he finally saw the walls of Small Star, he looked at the town and he was happy to finally find civilization, before he continued to walk up to the gates.
As he approached the gates, he took a deep breath before he walked up to the guards.
"State your name and purpose for entering the town."
Tom had been ready for this; he couldn't go by Tom as it was a very unordinary name in this world and "Tom" would possibly be a red flag for other participants. He took a deep breath as he had already committed to completely changing his name for the rest of his life.
"My name is Caxon and I am here to sell some supplies."
Caxon said while pulling the furs from the backpack he had picked up.
"Fine move along"
The guards did not seem to care as they opened the gates and allowed Caxon to enter the town.
As Caxon walked into the town he was surprised by how many people were within the walls. At first, he was nervous as his eyes darted around examining everyone he saw, however he realized that it was the most suspicious thing he could possibly do. He knew that he had to get over his fear that everyone around him was a participant since that was exactly what he was looking for in everyone else, his fear would get him killed if he didn't extinguish it from his mind right away.
Thinking about what he needed to do to fit in and be a regular mage, luckily Lanis had some coins so he was able to buy clothes that allowed him to blend in. He also made sure to use a silver coin to over pay so he can count the change and find the exchange rate of the coins.
Then he went to the tavern and simply sat and ate a small meal with water seemingly taking a realizing break, however he was straining his mind to follow all of the conversations that took place around him.
After finishing his meal Caxon waited for a few hours and kept the act of simply enjoying a drink, by the time he was ready to go Caxon learned everything Lanis had learned without being anywhere near as obvious as he was.
Caxon stood and went to the adventures hall he had heard about as he figured that was the best place to find any new information and possibly find a job that he could take.
When he walked in, he saw the lines forming for the staff but he decided to go look at the wall with posters instead.
Looking at the posters it seemed as though anyone could put up a task with a promised reward and then adventures would complete them for money. He also saw that some of the missions required the adventurer to be a certain rank.
Caxon assumed that F was the worst and even though the highest mission here was a C mission he assumed it went up to S and probably SSS or however many S's they needed. However, he could not figure out how to get this rank or the process to accept missions. While he wanted to avoid asking any questions that may point to the fact that he doesn't know the common sense of this world he knew it would be better to ask now then to wait for it to be a problem in the future.
However, he decided that he would just use the excuse of being young if anyone asked him and learn everything, he could now so he wouldn't be put in a bad position later, and so he stood and waited in line.
Eventually a cute woman with long ears called him up so she could help him. Although it was the first time he had seen an elf, Caxon made sure not to show any reaction as he expected he would see a lot of mythical races in the future.
"Hi my name is Elluin how can I help you"
"I was wondering what the process to sign up to become and adventurer is, and how I accept missions"
"Very well becoming an adventurer is easy if you won't want to be a ranked adventurer you just have to sign a document saying you won't blame the guild for any injuries. Accepting missions depends on the mission as some you must meet the sponsor of the mission to get more details or some you simply bring back the proof that is described on the mission's sheet to us and we will give you the reward."
Caxon looked around the room as Elluin was explaining and no one seemed to react to the fact that he didn't know what should be basic information which relieved some of his worry.
"Good and what is the process to become a ranked adventurer."
"The tests change slightly as the rank goes up but for E class you simply have to pay the fee to try out and an automatic mana formation will test your abilities. Don't worry the formation is set so it can't hurt you so the worst that can happen is you fail."
"I see and what is the price of the test."
Elluin looked at Caxons cheap and completely average clothes and worn-out sword before she smiled at him with pity and told him it was 5 silvers while apologizing for the cost.
Caxon had taken more than 5 silvers from the bandit so he knew he had enough however he was concerned on if he was supposed to have the ability to pass this test yet or not. Obviously Caxon couldn't ask about this so instead he looked around and gauge the power of the other adventurers here. While there were quite a few low rank hollow cores in the building Caxon couldn't tell if they were ranked adventures or not so he decided to play it safe and wait.
He would stay in this village and carefully observe to make sure he had a grasp on the basics of this world.
