First Mission Completed

Once again Caxon walked into the adventures guild to see the counters still had lines and people milling about looking at the available missions or chatting with their friends, this building was just as busy as the streets outside.

Caxon walked up to the mission wall before taking one of the posters down and getting in line. Caxon waited until it was his turn, until eventually he stood before a slime man in a brown blazer that matched the other receptionists. However, he also had a badge the left side of his chest with a silver sword that seemed to be surrounded by fire.

The man behind the counter smiled at Caxon before he began to do his job.

"What can I help you with sir?"

"I am here to turn in a mission I completed, however I don't want everyone here to listen to us is there a way I can do this in a private room."

Caxon said the first part out loud however he leaned towards the counter and whispered the second part. The receptionist narrowed his eyes and looked Caxon up and down before he nodded as he was intrigued about what this could be.

"Sure, follow me, Valsoreo please cover this desk for a moment."

"Of course, sir."

The man who seemed to be in charge based on the other workers reaction soon lead Caxon to a back room. As Caxon walked in he saw magical circles with writing he didn't understand on the walls glow before they became transparent again.

"This room has a concealment array in it so no one else will be able to hear our conversation now please continue."

"Ok here is the mission I completed."

With this Caxon put out the poster he had taken from the wall and placed it on the counter. Luckily, he had seen this poster before he left and he was able to remember it after he accidently completed it while he was out.

When the manager saw the poster, he immediately frowned.

"Listen it's not bad for someone your age to be a Hollow core rank 5 but there is no way you completed this bounty."

With this Caxon simply took the brown sack he had a dumped out the head of the bandit captain.

"Thats why I wanted to have this conversation in a closed room. I wouldn't be able to kill this bandit by myself but I just so happen to come across their camp after they were all attacked by some kind of beast. They were already dead I just took their spoils. I don't want someone to hear that a weakling like myself got the money from this bounty and ends up chasing me down for it. That's why I am hoping I can trust the discretion of the adventure's guild with this."

The manager of this adventures guild suddenly nodded his head and put on a big smile.

"Well very good very good, I am always happy to help a promising young recruit such as yourself let me go get you your reward."

The manager left Caxon alone in the room for a few minutes before he came back with a sack that was clearly filled with coins.

"As the mission states here is your 75 gold coins for the reward. That bandit was giving the local merchants a lot of trouble. Unfortunately for most of the people who are able to easily take someone like him down this much gold isn't worth them wasting their time since they are only passing through this village anyways. We could really use a high-level adventurer in this forest, but most of them just stop here before moving to the capital. Even though we have a relatively large number of powerful people come through none of them stay long enough to help, it is quite stressful on my job. Sorry to complain to you like this, is there anything else I can help you with while you are here sir."

"Yes, I would also like to participate in the test to become a F ranked adventurer."

Caxon pulled out 5 silvers as he said this.

"Of course, sir luckily for you I am the one who oversees our ranking tests so I will lead you to it straight away."

On their way the manager also explained some of the general rules for the tests.

"Now sir assuming you pass this test you will have to wait at least 3 months and complete 2 F class missions before you take the Class E assessment. However I would not suggest you take that test for a while. The F class assessment is geared towards low rank Hollow cores while the E class is meant for high rank hollow cores. Beyond that every class is for a major mana core stage so D is for bronze, C is for Silver, B is for gold and A is for platinum core mages."

"Is there any S class adventurers?"

The manager stopped as he turned around and looked at Caxon and narrowed his eyes slightly before he continued to walk forwards.

"Some say they are just legends but yes there are realms above the platinum core but it is not for people like us to worry about."

The manager once again lead the way for Caxon as they went further into the building to a large empty room. The room was very empty, it appeared to only have white walls and nothing else at all.

"This room has an illusion array that will produce a very accurate image of a random class one beast. The test is simply to eliminate the beast or to survive for 10 minutes against it. Be mindful the magic formation is very advanced and it will inflict physical harm however it will not be able to kill you so be sure to go all out. Whenever you are ready to start just shout out 'Begin' and the test will start, good luck sir."

The manager quickly left the room however he went to a connected room with a one-way window to watch Caxon's performance.

'Amon how realistic is it for a 16-year-old to be able to defeat a class 1 beast?'

'Very realistic sir, I would say almost all of the nobility would train the children to be able to do it and any one with even mediocre talent would be able to achieve it if they put in enough effort.'

Caxon smiled as he drew his sword and slowed down his breathing, he was excited to be able to fight against a beast he had never seen before. Before he started Caxon repeated his latest moto in his head.

'Remember you are a rank 5, not a rank 6. Remember you are a rank 5, not a rank 6.'

"BEGIN"

As he shouted magic circles on the walls appeared and became bright before they once again disappeared and an 8-foot-tall praying mantis with legs that looked sharper than Caxon's own sword appeared.

The praying mantis locked eyes with Caxon and seemed to be overtaken by an uncontrollable rage.

In the connected room the manger smirked.

'Well, that is unfortunate for the boy, a rank 5 may stand a chance but he is definitely unlucky. With his age and mana core level I am guessing he hasn't been in any battles and just cultivates all the time. He will probably fail but hopefully next time he has a better chance.'

Back in the testing room Caxon analyzed the beast that was moving forward on 4 legs while its 2 front arms prepared to swing down like deadly weapons.

'Remember you are a rank 5, not a rank 6.'
