Wails of a Dying Animal

"Darkside, why did you choose me as your host?"

We were inside this scary place, and the monster that lived inside me sat opposite me. Darkside said we were inside my mind right now in a domain that I created subconsciously.

It had been a year since she was born or unleashed. And today was the second day I had finally managed to escape from the council's experiments. Well not escape, more like I had to make a public appearance for the other kingdoms in Iracundia. The last time I escaped was when I went to the playground on the other side of the kingdom. But that was when I committed my first murder.

'That's a good question little one, why would an ancient creature from a forgotten time choose a little fragile girl as my host?' Darkside sighs. The shadowy creature with golden eyes had a sinister smile on her features.

Darkside never scared me. Well the first time I saw her I was terrified but that fear had turned to companionship as my fear transferred to the caelestians that held me captured in the deepest depths of the dungeons underground.

'We still have many many more years to go till I take over you. But right now you're still weak and have a lot more to go through till you're strong enough. I'll be here watching over you, protecting you, and making sure that no one takes advantage of you.'

"You say that now but what about the council, those chains they use on me hinder you completely, it's as if you're completely gone. Those chains are both of our weaknesses because I can no longer feel my essence. I was never even supposed to have an essence at this age…"

I was still a child, a fractured child that had to mature too soon. I still could not do anything in this body. Daddy was upset with me; he no longer talks to me. Queen Athena despises me and she is supposed to have a son that is my age. I haven't even seen Daemeon after what happened last year.

I looked up at Darkside and she was using the darkness to twirl around me. I learned it was called miasma. It reminded me of my father's power. This power was also the power Darkside used to slaughter all those caelestians. To say the least, it was comforting to me in this little place, this domain I had formed in my mind.

'Every creature in every realm has an essence; it does not matter for them to come of age to unlock that sacred power. You unlocked yours at an early age because you touched the abyssal lilies. That is my sacred flower you know,' she created the abyssal lily as it floated to me.

'You are much calmer now than you were since we met. You're growing up faster than you can comprehend.' Her voice slithers around me.

"Growing up?" I twirled the abyssal lily as the thorns pricked me, "abyssal lilies don't have thorns Darkside," and just as I said it she cackled.

'Don't be such a spoiled princess now, we're going to be trapped together here for a very long time, after all, I am the evil that resides inside of you, the least we can do is get along and have some fun. You're still a little caelestian so I can't just take over you and have fun with other caelestians-'

"Fun with other caelestians?" I dropped the lily as it disappeared under the pool of darkness below me.

'When you're older little one, you will be the most beautiful of all of Iracundia. Then I will teach you how to have fun but for now, I'll use my little tricks to annoy you and keep me entertained.'

Darkside floated and went to her side of the wall. 'Hmm, I guess it's time I created my domain, not that I don't like this dark place you have here but if I want to keep us safe, you'll need a place to stay when I take over from time to time if you don't keep any chains on me.'

She waved her hand across the wall as silver chains crisscrossed the wall, and shards of silver and golden glass shimmered around as a breeze flew by. I stood up to take a closer look at her domain as she hushed me back.

'No not yet little one, only when you're ready.'

I could only sigh as I closed my eyes only to open them to be back in reality. I rubbed my eyes so the sleep could leave my sleepy body. It had been a while since I had gotten proper sleep. I sat upright under the large oak tree beside the undead flowers. I grabbed a bunch of the flowers and crushed them under my fingers as they dissipated into black ash.

I stood up as my hair fell in front of me in white long waves that reached my mid-back. I grabbed my hair and pinned it into a side braid. I dusted my clothes and looked at the red sky above me. I was not supposed to be preparing for war. I was supposed to play games with my friends and siblings and run around the fields, training with them. Not anymore, now I have to be the council's little experiment.

A hissing sound came from above my head, my darkness automatically sprung out from my palm to surround me to catch whatever wanted to sink its fangs or claws into my skin. I turned to glance at the feckless creature that was perched on the branches of the tree.

A baby Chimera glanced at me. A body and face of a lion with an eagle's head as a second neck, wings like a griffon, and a tail of a snake.

"What's a creature like you doing out here in the plains of Obscurum?" I asked the little creature. I lifted my hand to touch it, but the blade of a sword was aimed at my throat as my hand filled with darkness was inches away from touching the feral beast. The blade reached deeper into my skin as my darkness reacted to the stranger.

"Move your fingers away from my pet or the next thing you'll feel is your head being sliced off!" A boy's voice resounded behind me.

"Hmm, I wouldn't exactly feel my head being sliced off because I'll already be dead." I smugly replied with a coy smile.

"You're just a little bitch! Just a lowly peasant!"

I let out a gasp as I felt the blade slice my upper arm as he kicked me down. I hissed and rolled to the side before he could stomp my head and I looked at the boy not much older than me. His hair was a dark shade of red as it was messily styled. His clothes were fitted, the clothes of upperclassmen from the high society.

I was just a lowly peasant? Oh yeah, that's correct, my father, the king had decided to hand me over to the council to be dealt with. The boy's eye narrowed as he glanced at my arm as my darkness sealed the wound. He tilted his head as his Chimera jumped to his shoulder, a little too big on his tiny shoulders.

"Your arm? How did you do that?!" He trained his sword on me again.

I stood up and dusted my clothes not afraid of him, "And why should I answer you?"

"Because I am the crown prince and you shall obey every word I say!" He scowled and I giggled at him. He stepped forward to strike and I put my hand up to stop him. Immediately he stopped as my darkness revealed more of itself from my skin to scare him and then receded into me.

"So what if you're the crown prince? I won't obey you; you're nothing but another caelestian just like me."

My words seemed to rile him up more as his body shook with anger and he charged at me. I dodged his sword and went behind him and pushed him down. His Chimera then jumped on my shoulder and bit into me and swung it away as it screamed in pain.

"NO!" the boy ran to its side but it was already too late. My darkness had already slipped inside the veins of the creature. It thrashed around the ground in pain as the darkness did its work in killing it slowly. A long dying wail filled the air along with a painful scream. The creature had died and slowly it began to dissipate. The boy cried with sorrow but I didn't feel guilty at all.

Footsteps surrounded the clearing and surrounded us. "Your Highness!"

The familiar voices piqued my interest, but it was too late for me to realize that it was not me they were calling out to. Elder brother Dracyian and Big brother Skythe ran to the boy's side completely forgetting that I was right there. My legs faltered a bit as chains suddenly wrapped around my neck and arms sealing my darkness and weakening me. I should have been used to this but every time these chains were on me felt like I was dying.

Sir Talberon stepped behind me and I glared at him.

"Smart move by creating illusions of you, but really now princess Serah, is that any way of greeting your new brother?"

He bent down to my level with a sick twisted smile and I glanced at my two brothers and the red-haired boy.

"Princess?!" The boy said viciously.

"How the hell is that monster related to us?!" He stood up wiping his tears and turned to Brother Skythe and Dracyian.

Skythe looked broken while Dracyian had his façade on his face again. "Yes brother Zecane, She is your younger sister, Princess Serah Iracia of Obscurum."

So he was Queen Athena's son.

Zecane

But his blood wasn't like ours

We three had the king's blood running through our veins.

"How is it possible that 'she' is the princess-"

"You got a damn problem Zecane?! Accept the fact that we're not related– "I was cut off by the chains being tightened.

"Address the crown prince properly, crown princess." Sir Talberon's voice was deeper and darker with hidden intentions of promises of punishment as my body quivered under his hateful stare.

"I apologize for murdering your Chimera brother Zecane; it was not my intention to harm your pet. I am Princess Serah Iracia, the crown princess." I felt the bile reach my throat as I slightly bowed to him as shame filled my entire body. Tears pricked my eyes as I was pulled away into a portal by Sir Talberon. I could only wish for a better future as I was thrown back into my dungeon.
