Kai sat in his car, the heat turned all the way up. It was freezing, only seven degrees, in October. His phone sat on the dash, Wafi's voice on the speaker. The boy had called him while he was on his way to pick up Mago, mostly to talk about random things. "Have you ever tried the coffee jelly drink at Starbucks? I heard it was good." Wafi said. Kai hummed. He knew Wafi always acted differently with Kai than the rest of them. More serious, kind. That's how Kai learned to deal with most of the other's bullshit.
"Maybe I should try it, Mago said we were supposed to be going to a cafe," Kai noted quietly. Wafi gasped, remembering something. "Oh yeah! How is that date with Mago going?" Wafi asked. He seemed genuinely curious. Kai scoffed. "Not a date." Kai reminded me. To him, this wasn't a date. Instead, it was two close friends hanging out. "It's just like if I went out with Yoshi or you."
"Yeah, but you would date all of us."
"....."
"Imagine, all of us dating each other."
"That would be chaotic."
"No, that would be amazing."
"How so."
"I can kiss all of you without it being cheating!"
Kai sighed, grabbing his phone. "Wafi, if you think that's a good idea. Why don't you tell everyone else that?" Kai said sarcastically. Wafi gasped. "Oh my god! That's a perfect idea! I'm gonna test it on the group chat! Bye!" Wafi said quickly, before hanging up his phone. Kai internally facepalmed, right as the passenger door opened.
Mago stepped inside, his college jacket hugged around him. The boy had a white blouse under his jacket, with black leather pants matching the strings hooking the low-cut blouse together. His hair seemed to have been done recently, since earlier today it looked completely different. His hair was now dyed a red, only the roots being its normal brown color. His long hair in a wolf-cut style, however, pulled back to reveal his feline eyes and features. He smiled at Kai, who smiled right back.
"I know you said we were going to a coffee shop, but I would rather you be a little more specific." Kai says, grabbing his phone to go to Google Maps, since he didn't have IOS. Those were stubid. Mago hums, thinking for a moment. Kai calmly tapped his fingers on the steering wheel. "You wanna go to Latte's & Love?" Mago asked. Kai found it somewhat ridiculous that they were going to a coffee shop at ten pm, but also he knew they weren't going for coffee.
"Fine, we can. But please don't buy coffee." Kai warns, putting in the name into the search bar. Mago scoffs. "What, no way. I only drink black tea or no caffeine. I rather not have that taste." Mago fake gags, shaking his head. Wow, only a ten minute drive, doesn't seem that bad. "So tell me, how is college going?" Kai asks, backing out of his parking spot. Mago laughs, cute, covering his mouth.
Kai had noticed the boy doing that. Covering his mouth with his hand when he was laughing. He wanted to ask about it, but decided not to. "You sound like my parents." Mago jokes, a smile prominent on his face. It beamed, almost innocently. Kai promptly shrugged. "Is that a bad thing?" He questioned.
Mago placed both hands up, like a scale. "Maybe, maybe not." Kai shrugged. Mago grabbed Kai's phone, scrolling through different apps. The student didn't do anything bad on his phone, so he didn't worry. "Turn left on Gorton Rd in four-hundred-fifty meters." The robotic voice instructs, Kai stopping at the stop sign. Mago coos. Kai glanced over. "What?" Mago shows him the phone.
Yoshi: hey
Kai: hi?
Yoshi: You know I love you, right?
Kai: Is something wrong?
Yoshi: no
Kai: Did something happen?
Yoshi: no
Kai: Then why did you say that?
Yoshi: Can I just say I love you?
Kai:..... I mean yeah….
Yoshi: i love you
Kai: Are you sure you're ok?
Yoshi: YES
Kai: ok
Yoshi: i just wanted to let you know that
Kai: hey yoshi
Yoshi: yeah?
Kai: I love you
Kai snatched his phone. "I didn't expect you to go through my texts." Kai muttered, placing his phone in his lap. Mago frowned, crossing his arms. "It wasn't like I was looking for anything bad. I just… noticed it." Mago explained. Kai rolled his eyes, turning left at the green light. "Yeah, ok." Kai said sarcastically. Mago scoffed, leaning back in his seat. "You are very rude, not even being formal with me." Mago muttered.
Kai didn't say anything, only focusing on driving. A light drizzle fell onto the car's glass barriers, a soft tapping sound beginning. "Do you ever like to….. I don't know." Mago trails off, shaking his head. Kai noticed, nudging him lightly. "No, tell me." Kai urges curiously. Mago thinks for a moment, looking outside. "You know, like….. Go on a walk outside. Just to look at the scenery?"
Kai smiled lightly. "Of course. I think, everyone should once in a while. There are too many screens." Kai never hated phones or electronics in general. He actually liked it a lot. However, it's mostly just the amount that he didn't like. People's eyes go from one screen to another. Why a street performer on your phone, when you can in real life? Why read online books when you can read real books? It's just something that Kai couldn't wrap his head around. Mago claps his hands excitedly. "Exactly! Listen; tea, a good book, and a rainy day. Perfect." He flops back down in his chair after getting excited.
If they weren't in a car Kai believes he would have stood up and waved in the air.
"So what, do you believe in crystals and your third eye?" Kai asked sarcastically. Though, Mago seemed to have taken it seriously. He hummed. "Wafi asked me the same thing, he's rubbing off on you. You should probably stop before it becomes too much." He warns, not answering the question. Kai rolled his eyes. "He's not rubbing off on me." Kai simply replied. Mago gave him a dead stare. "Really? You two talk quietly all the time in Hisoki's class. I thought that you two were dating." "Well, we aren't."
But what if they were? Wafi and Kai had been friends before even Yoshi. With that boy it was always difficult to grasp him. He says one thing, then means another. Kai, for some reason, takes Wafi more seriously than the rest. He knows they all care for each other, but Kai shows it more for Wafi. Not that he likes to share it.
"Y'all would be a very cute couple. I would have approved. When I found out you two were not dating, I started to ship you with Yoshi." Mago starts laughing. Yoshi. His knuckles were still bruised from that fight. He wanted to kill that boy for hurting his best friend. But he wanted to kill himself because he couldn't protect him. Yoshi and Kai always had a close bond, that was obvious when they first met, which wasn't the most fortunate times. Yoshi was the sweetest doll, kind and affectionate. If you asked him to get a piece of paper, he would grumble and be sarcastic, but stand up immediately.
He has such a sharp shell under his kindness.
"Why is it always me?" Kai asked, laughing. Mago lightly shrugged. "Maybe it was because you're so interesting. Maybe it's because we kissed." He stopped for a moment, before thinking. Kai hadn't forgotten that kiss. It was still in the back of his mind. "You're a good kisser." Mago compliments. Kai mentally faces palms. He could see the coffee shop in the distance. Kai took in a breath.
This was going to be a good night.
