Trouble calling

Bradley Morgan stood in front of the gigantic building, a faint smile forming on his face as he saw the large 'ANC' at the top of the building. He was here.

Finally.

"HAZEL EYES!"

Brad turned to look behind him and saw the young man he had spoken to during the interview approaching him. He was dressed in a corporate outfit just like he was.

The two looked very surprised to see each other in front of ANC Corporation's main building. He remembered his name was Nerd. Applicant 042.

"It's Brad. It's nice to see you! You got the job?" Brad asked with a broad smile on his face. He was happy to see someone he was familiar with.

"I DID! I think I am even more surprised that you got the job." Nerd said, grinning widely.

"Ouch... thanks."

"You're welcome, man." Nerd said excitedly, before pulling Brad into a happy hug.

Wow! how sensitive.

Note the sarcasm.

"It's nice to see a familiar face. I'm so happy, dude! This is like a dream come true. I still can't believe I'm here!"

Brad nodded awkwardly, not used to this kind of public display of affection. Thankfully, Nerd pulled away from the hug quickly and continued to ramble on.

"How did you get the job? I mean... she was scary. I thought I didn't have a chance." As they entered the building, Nerd asked, but he kept his voice low.

Brad had also been greatly surprised when he received an email, telling him he was to resume on Monday. He hadn't expected to get the job. The heavens were indeed helping him.

"Miss Anderson asked me a tricky question. I thought she wasn't pleased with my answer and had already given up on getting the job." Brad said, joining the conversation.

"Really? Me too!" Nerd exclaimed. "She asked me what I'd do if I saw someone harassing another person on my way to work and I had an important presentation in the office in a few minutes. She wanted to know what I'd do. I answered that I would try to help and call the police. I think she was pushing me to say I'd ignore the person and go to work. She didn't even look too pleased after my answer, but I got the job!" He laughed.

Brad thought about it. What's with the tricky questions? Did it mean the others didn't get the job because they placed work first? But... didn't administrative leaders prefer those who always put work first before anything else?

Nerd kept talking until they tried to enter the administrative building but were stopped by security because they didn't have a work ID card yet. Fortunately, the lady walking behind Grace on the day of the interview was there to lead them inside.

The two guys had thought they were early since they were supposed to resume work by 8 a.m. but had arrived a few minutes past 7 a.m. Surprisingly, the admin block was already filled with people who had started working.

Nerd, in particular, looked around in awe as the lady led them into an office where they had to fill out some forms on their own.

Did you see the news about Miss Anderson? She got crazy at her friend's engagement dinner on Saturday." Nerd whispered even though it was just the two of them inside the room.

Brad, naturally, wasn't the type to talk too much, so he simply listened as Nerd filled him in on the news he had already seen.

"I confirmed this with the nephew of my uncle's brother-in-law, maternal cousin, who was there on Saturday. And she told me it was true. The ladies went to say hello to Miss Anderson, but she threw drinks on them and called them bitches. She even slapped one of them, and they got into a catfight!" He said in a hushed voice.

"The media doesn't know about this part though. I guess her parents must have kept it from the public, but since I knew someone who had been there, I got inside information." Nerd said smugly.

"You shouldn't speak badly about her. If you weren't there, you should not spread rumours." Brad frowned at Nerd, who looked at him in surprise.

"Why are you taking her side?" Nerd inquired, perplexed.

"If it weren't for her, we wouldn't have gotten this job." Brad said before he continued to fill out his form.

"Says who? She is the reason I thought I wouldn't get this job!"

"You are confident you would have beaten over a hundred applicants?" Brad raised a brow at him.

"If it weren't for her, all the people who left without getting an interview would have gotten a chance. I'm sure the questions she asked us got us into this position. You think we would have had a chance if she hadn't been there?" Brad asked, his frown deepening.

Nerd appeared to be thinking for a moment before nodding. "That makes sense." He said, looking at Brad. "Now that I think about it, it totally makes sense. I think I'll be supporting her now." Nerd said with a grin before looking at Brad's form that he was filling out.

"An internship? Why?" Nerd asked curiously.

Brad looked at him in confusion. "You aren't on probation?"

Nerd shook his head. "I was employed full-time. You weren't?"

Brad looked confused as he shook his head. He was on probation for 6 months as an intern. Why?

"Uh oh... I think you're going to be hating Miss Anderson soon." Nerd said in a sing-song voice and jumped in fright out of his seat as the door opened.

The lady who had led them inside entered the office and looked at the two.

"Mr. Morgan, Mr. McGrath. Miss Anderson want you both in her office. Immediately."

The two boys looked at each other.

Trouble was calling.
