At seven the following morning, one could see a crowd of civilians standing in front of the closed door of the newly built adventurer's guild.
"Why is it so crowded?" Asked a civilian passing by while going to work.
"Haven't you heard? The leader of the four heroes is the one who opened this building. I heard that the four heroes joined the adventurer's guild. My friend was here yesterday when their leader, Lux, explained how everything worked to the four heroes. I'm sure the guild will create a new trend, and most of the explorers and fighters will join the guild!" He exclaimed, pumped, as he looked at the clueless man.
"Sorry, Lux?" He asked, a bit confused. He was aware of the four heroes and was even a fan of them. With all their achievements, they were people everyone aspired to be. However, he had never heard of their leader.
"It's understandable that you don't know about him." Said another man who was wearing leather armour along with two swords strapped at his waist. "He's relatively unknown since he doesn't flaunt his power, and he only works with the four heroes." He explained as he stared at the doors, waiting for them to open and register for the guild.
"So, is he as strong as the heroes?" Continued the civilian as others started to pay attention to the answer of the man.
"No, he's way stronger. The leader, Lux, is known by many names The ultimate, The protector, The last shield and The ultimate destroyer. The titles were given to him by various other explorers, soldiers and the various kings of the world. I'm sure you've heard about the dungeon break of an ultimate-grade dungeon a few years back?" He asked as the crowd nodded and answered positively in response to the question.
"Well, that day, most of the explorers in the surroundings and soldiers from three kingdoms surrounding the break were called to deal with it, and I was amongst them. After a week of combat, not only did we not repel the monsters, they pushed us back, and we lost countless people. That's when he finally arrived." He stopped for a few moments to give a dramatic flair before he continued.
"When he arrived, he walked in front of the army and faced the monsters alone by himself while the four heroes protected the armies by killing the few remaining monsters that were amongst our ranks. As for their leader, Lux, he rushed into the monster horde with his sword." He stopped to take back his breath as he finished with fascination on his face as if he could see the scene once again. "He destroyed the horde that pushed back the armies of three kingdoms and the explorers for a week in only five minutes."
Right as the man finished speaking and everyone was stunned at the revelation that had never circulated very far, another continued. "Right when he cleaned up every monster, he entered the dungeon and a week later, Lux was back out of the dungeon, having conquered it as if he took a walk in the city. That's how he got the title of 'Ultimate destroyer.'"
As the group finished talking about his previous deeds, the two doors of the adventurer's guild opened up. The people waiting at the doors seeing this, immediately started entering the guild in an orderly fashion. After everything they had heard previously, they didn't want to be seen in a bad light as they all entered orderly but rapidly.
What awaited them on the other side of the door were the sword and the lance hero, Ewan and Keat, who directed them to the counters to get registered if they were interested in joining the adventurer's guild.
Some people immediately wanted to start talking with the heroes, but after the crowd behind them walked over, they didn't dare to stop and followed along with the public and entered one of the three lines in front of the counter. Lux, Kira and Aysha were behind the counter to register those who wanted to join the adventurer's guild. It was pretty easy as they had to ask for the name, age and profession of the person while the truth crystal would guarantee their words, and Hazel would prepare the guild card immediately.
"Hi, miss Aysha, my name is Jean. I'm 22. Would you be free this evening for a diner with me?" Said a man wearing heavy armour with an axe on his back. His sentence attracted the attention of many, but her four teammates didn't bother even looking at the interaction. It wasn't the first time such a thing happened and would certainly not be the last.
Seeing Aysha with no reaction to his words, he gave it a last try. "You are my compass, my dear. Without you, I am lost."
Those words, however, attracted Lux, Kira, Ewan and Keat as they turned towards Aysha and tried to stifle their chuckles as tears appeared in Kira's eyes, who was laughing too hard. "Y-You should take his offer. Maybe this would 'lead' you somewhere." She said immediately to Aysha as she bent down and started to laugh out loud, quickly followed by the other two young men as Lux held back his chuckles as his shoulders rose with each laughter he held back and turned back to his work.
"Oh, I'm sorry, I'm already interested in someone." She answered the young man who didn't understand what had just happened. "Here is your guild card." She continued with a gentle smile on her face as she handed the newly made guild card. She had guessed the occupation, but it wasn't too hard since he had an axe on his back.
"Oh, it's alright." He said with a simple smile on his face as his right hand went behind his head and brushed his hair as he took the card with his left hand.
As he looked at the card, he saw the rank was G which was higher than the previous civilian in front of him who had H. "Can I ask why I have the G rank while the previous civilian had the H rank?" He asked, a bit confused.
"Well, since we can't tell your actual capabilities until you complete a mission or two, we give the G rank to everyone who knows how to fight, which we can find by your equipment. Afterwards, Hazel will make a comprehensive assessment of your strength based on the results of the mission, and we will adapt your rank depending on the result." She explained with the same gentle smile she always had. "As such, we recommend taking a subjugation mission or two as fast as possible as we will then be able to reassess your strength." She finished as the man nodded, and those who were close shook their head in understanding before a question went off in their minds.
"How will you be able to assess our strength when we are on the mission?" Asked another who was genuinely confused.
"Well, you would have learned it when taking a subjugation mission, but there are three ways to confirm a subjugation mission. The first would be to take a picture with your guild card. You have to take out the guild card in front of the monster, and the guild card will automatically take a picture of the monster you defeated.
The second way is to bring proof of subjugation, such as the monster's whole body or simply a bit of their body for more accessible travel. When you take a mission at the machine, they'll tell you what part is necessary for the proof. The last way is to use the truth detector. It will be easy to guarantee the truth at that point when we ask a question. However, note that you can sell the part of the monster brought back and the whole body of the beast to the guild. As such, bringing back the body will guarantee you a more significant profit.
As for assessing your strength, we will need you to either bring back the body or take a picture of the monster, where Hazel will evaluate your power from the depth of the wounds, the number of injuries and various other components. Do your best, and Hazel will place you at the proper rank." She explained as everyone stopped and listened to her in-depth explanation.
"I see. Thank you." He answered as he directly went to the ATM-like machine. Ewan had moved there to help if they misunderstood something.
In this way, a few hours went by. The day was going great as Lux, Kira and Aysha rapidly processed the new adventurers and had them register properly. In this time, the four heroes each got a few demands for a date, with three of them directly stating marriage. It wasn't enjoyable, especially when one started asking if we knew who his father was.
This scene made Lux recall old memories as he smiled with happiness at what he had made of his life ever since he arrived in this world.
