A Eye for a Heart

"I now crown you, Queen Evania Anah of Opehla" the priest says as his frail hands lower to my head and I can feel the weight of the crown resting on my shoulders, shuddering over its coldness.

"We all know the real reason to this gathering" councilman Halbert starts as I can't help but just sit there. "This was all fun and games when you were playing the part of the Queen but now you are one!" He speaks as I can hold my tongue no longer

"Councilman, if your complaints hold any importance to anyone please speak them. But if this is purely based on prejudice and traditions leave it!" I urge him kindly as he stands to me.

"You cannot be the sole ruler for long, you will have to marry!" Halbert bites back as I bit the inside of my cheek. Repeating the slurs lining my thoughts in my wildest imagination. "Tell me your majesty, do you silence me out of fear?" Halbert asks me, my eyes quickly catch his.

"I know better than to just marry the next male that comes into my castle. I will marry when I can find the correct king. A King that will be worthy of Opehla!" I reassure my councilmen. "And you will be the first to know when I find such a man" I finish conversing as I stand up.

Walking out of the council room with my head down, feeling more beaten than ever.

*******************************

"Prince Gabriel of Narvyia" My fathers advisor announces me.

"How can I be of service to the supreme ruler of Narvyia himself?" I ask him as he frowns at me and I notice I am standing next to my older brother. "I must look so small in value next you brother!" I tease.

"ENOUGH!" My father shouts, the vein of his forehead revealing itself. "That is not the reason I have called both of you here today! Today you will show how much you are worth" My father speaks as he looks to his advisor.

The skinny man passing both me and my brother a paper.

"What is this, father?" My brother ask, his long beard tickling the ends of the paper.

"A map" He answers, standing up from his throne to his feet. "It has come to my attention that the past ruler of Opehla has passed, leaving the kingdom to his niece that nobody knew existed! That was until now, we thought she was a casualty of the last war but sadly she was not. But Opehla is weak with simply a woman as a ruler." The king explains as I stand there, pondering what is to emerge from his mouth next.

"Where do we come in father?" I ask as he grunts in response to my existence.

"You will kill her!" he orders as a shiver runs down my spine with his confession. I had killed before but this would start a war, our people would suffer more than they do now. "You will start the mission now!" He urges as I take a deep breath.

"No excuses, Gabriel! You don't come back with the young queens head and I will have yours instead!" The threat eats at me as he walks away.

First there was a carriage.

"This is as far as I can take you, your highness" The knight alerts my brother and I.

The walk was brutal but the we finally saw it. Opehla's esteemed castle in front of me.

"There is where that little bitch rules!" my brother remarks as I laugh.

"It must be painful to remove yourself from our father's balls every morning. If you weren't my brother I would have to be concerned you were his lover" I insult him as he looks to me. "Be careful big brother, we have a mission to complete." I backtrack.

"Look" my brother grunts as two guards past in front of the bushes.

Quickly emerging to our feet I grab the guard in front of me. My brother doing the same. As the guard thrashes while I hold him down I quickly stab my sword in his abdomen as he stops, the cold feeling of blood meeting my skin.

I knew what to do. Quickly changing into the guards uniform and leaving the men behind the bushes.

"We have urgent business with the Queen!" I tell the knight guarding the castle door.

"The Queen cannot just see a guard. State your business?" He ask me as I look to my brother behind me. Taking a deep breath. This was for my kingdom, this death would benefit the people.

"We have news for the queen about Narvyia. We fear they have breached the walls. " I answer the knight as he allows us through.

"Smart thinking brother!" he compliments me as I snicker.

"it's not for you" I set the record straight, "For Narvyia" I whisper underneath my breath as the knight leads us to a room.

"The Queen will meet with you soon" The knight urges as leaves, closing the door.

While I scope out the room. Looking at the room in deep detail.

"This must be her!" My brother suggest as he points to the portrait on the wall. "She is quite old" he comments as I look at the portrait.

"I think this was Queen Adete." I say as I am interrupted with the sound of the door opening.

"It was" I hear as I turn to face the voice and see beautiful young women standing there. "The late queen. They never found her, she ran for some reason from Opehla." She explains through her perfect lips. Her dark skin illuminating in the sunlight and her beautiful brown eyes glowing in the sun. Her hair falling to the sides of her face as she smiles.

"Your majesty" I say as she looks as me, predicting what I will do next.

"No need to bow my good guards. I heard about this issue and came as soon as I could. Narvyia? How is this?" She asks as my brother takes little steps.

"I have no idea your majesty" My brother answers.

"I seems that they have....infiltrated past the border" I tell her as she nods her head.

"Perhaps the problem is the enemy is closer than they appear, your majesty" my brother confesses as her eyes light up.
