Japan was lucky that Mexico's counter-attack was not going well. Mexico didn't lose thier confident to beat Japan. The proof was Isaac did not pass the ball to Hernandez, instead he was wasting chances. However, if Isaac was passing the ball to Hernandez the chances of Japan conceding will be higher.

In the 26th minute, Japan tried to attack Mexico. Japan's midfielder, Yamaguchi provided Hasebe a pass, after he passed through Carlos Pena. Hasebe kept the ball from Hectpr Herrera. He then provided the ball to Keisuke Honda, who walked backwards. Honda received the ball then flicked the ball to the side, After which, he pushed the ball to the player who was marking him.

Honda brought the ball forward, Mexico defender, Miguel Ponce came on to close Honda's path. Honda, who saw it, immediately provided a cross into the middle of the penalty box. Ponce stretched his leg, but failed to stop the ball.
