Chapter 11

PART IV

"Transmutation, to be effective, must occur not only in the physical body but the spiritual one. This is the basic principle as exposed by Master Theodemus Von Bier on his Treaty of the Transmutation of Species, and it is one that is still regarded as a premise. But what if I were to tell you it is not the spirit, but the psyche, that must undergo a transmutation, whenever the body is forced through one? What if I were to say there are dangers in the careless use of Transmutation and its pursuit? For how can the brain, the psyche, not undergo a transformation, if the body does so? How can the brain not change, if the body does? And how can it not affect the personality of the Transmuter, how can it not taint us and linger in us, sometimes with dire effects? Turn an individual into a wolf at regular intervals, and you will have to deal with the wolf in his hands."
