Alec stands on the curb, wearing the most inappropriate jacket for the dropping temperatures, rain drenching him. He peers into the distance, wonders which direction is Ezra coming from, smiles at the double meaning of his thoughts. Faces back to Cassandra, who is resolutely hidden under the world's largest umbrella, her eyes a lighthouse that call him back home. He slides back to her, safe from the impending storm. No, not safe, never safe, for she's going to force him to relive it all. He takes a deep breath, aware there's so much behind his swollen lip, his black eye, so much he'd still hide from the world, if he could.

"Please, talk to me. Tell me what happened. You don't just get to come inside me and shut me off, Alec, that's not how it works."

"So, you're my girlfriend now?" he says, knowing it will rile her up. Maybe it'll keep her off his back. Maybe she'll quit.
