The man had his eyes fixed on Nephele as he walked towards her. She narrowed her golden eyes and tracked his movements through the chaos. She swept her bloody bangs to the side and stood with her back straight, unmoving and unaffected by the blood and gore around her.
The man laughed evilly and the energy around him twinkled like stars. Nephele looked at him with a mix of curiosity and wariness. She had never seen anyone like him before. He seemed to be emanating otherworldly energy that she couldn't quite place. He was not like Eos, Ria, or Aria. Whatever he was, she could sense that he was dangerous, and she needed to be careful.
The man took a step closer to Nephele. "Who are you?" Nephele asked, her voice steady and calm.
The man smirked. "You can call me Erebos," he said. "And I've been looking for a worthy opponent. It seems that I've finally found one."
Nephele raised an eyebrow. "And you think that's me?"
"I can feel your power. You're not like the others here. You're strong. But are you strong enough to defeat me?"
He laughed maniacally. "You are a fucking piece of prime ass. Before I destroy you, I'm gonna ravish you and make you scream like there's no tomorrow." His voice was icily brutal with a maddening tone.
Nephele didn't answer. Instead, she summoned her qi into her hand, forming a spear of solid energy. Erebos didn't flinch.
The two stood facing each other, each waiting for the other to make a move. The air was thick with tension, and everyone else in the area had stopped fighting, their attention drawn to the two powerful beings facing off against each other.
Nephele felt her heart pounding in her chest as she faced off against Erebos. She could sense his immense power, and she knew that this would be the fight of her life. She had to focus all her energy on the task at hand and not let her fear get the best of her.
With a deep breath, Nephele held her qi spear tightly, ready to strike at any moment. She could feel the energy crackling in the air around her, and she knew that one wrong move could mean the end of her life or something worse.
Erebos stood calmly, his eyes fixed on Nephele. She could see the confidence in his gaze, and it made her even more determined to come out on top. She had trained for years, mastering her qi and honing her skills, and she wasn't about to let all that effort go to waste.
As they stood facing each other, the world around them seemed to fade away. The only thing that mattered was the battle between them, the clash of their powers, and the determination to come out on top.
Nephele felt her qi spear grow hotter in her hand, and she knew that it was time to strike. With a fierce battle cry, she lunged forward, her spear aimed at Erebos's heart.
But Erebos was ready. He sidestepped her attack and his energy crackled in response. The two exchanged blows, each one trying to gain the upper hand.
The battle raged on for what felt like hours, but in reality, it was only a few minutes. Finally, Nephele saw her opening. She lunged forward once more, her qi spear aimed directly at Erebos's chest.
In a split second before Nephele could land her blow, Erebos swiftly moved out of the way, causing her spear to miss the target. With lightning-fast reflexes, Erebos struck back, with his weapon of energy aimed directly at Nephele.
Nephele deftly dodged Erebos' attack, but the force of his blow unleashed a powerful qi pressure wave that slammed into her, sending her hurtling backward through the air. She collided with the ground with a sickening thud, the impact jarring her entire body and inflicting a sharp pain in her side. Gasping and choking, she lay there petrified, her body broken, and her life force waning. Every nerve tingled with an electric terror that ran through her veins like ice water. Her qi had nearly been extinguished by the attack, meaning this could be the end.
Just as she thought it was all over, a sudden flash of bright light enveloped her, blinding her momentarily. When her vision cleared, Nephele found herself a dozen meters away from her enemy, cradled in the arms of Eos.
His eyes glowed with celestial qi, and for a moment, Nephele couldn't believe her luck. She had been saved by her master, just when she needed him the most.
After her vision cleared, Nephele found herself a dozen meters away from her foe, cradled in the arms of Eos. With his eyes glowing with celestial qi, Nephele couldn't believe her good fortune. At the moment when she needed him most, her master had saved her.
Too exhausted to speak, Nephele weakly nodded her head. Eos held her tightly, his own qi energy forming a protective shield around them.
"You did well, Nephele," Eos murmured gently.
"But it's time to rest now. We'll take care of the rest."
Nephele gasped as the shadow enveloped them, feeling the panic rising in her chest. She clung to Eos, hoping that he could protect her. But then she watched in horror as the shadow started to drain celestial qi from Eos, and she felt a cold dread settle over her.
Within seconds, the man who had once been her enemy was writhing in excruciating pain, blood gushing from every opening in his body. The sheer intensity of his screams echoed through the air, causing Nephele to wince in agony.
Eos wrapped his arms around her, holding her close as his eyes blazed with intense light. "Only Supremes possess the power to harness the Celestial Qi," he whispered in her ear, his voice steady despite the chaos around them.
Nephele could only nod in response, her mind reeling from the shock of what she had just witnessed. The power of the Supremes was beyond anything she had ever imagined, and she was beginning to realize that her abilities paled in comparison.
"His own greed became his undoing," said Eos.
He had saved her life, and she knew that she owed him a debt of gratitude. Nephele's mind raced as she tried to take in what had just happened. One moment, she was facing off against a powerful enemy, and the next, she was safely in the arms of Eos, the one who had saved her. She could feel the warmth of his qi flowing through her, healing her wounds and restoring her energy.
"Are you okay?" Eos asked.
Nephele gave a curt nod, her head still spinning from the chaos of the battle. As she looked around, she saw that the conflict had come to an end, with the majority of the fighters having taken flight.
"Where is she?" she asked with an urgency in her voice.
"Who do you mean?" Eos inquired, giving her a concerned look.
"The lass who led this expedition," Nephele replied. "We must find her."
Eos scanned the area with a narrowed gaze, his mind deeply focused. "I do believe she's made her escape by now," he said.
"Many of the slaves have done the same. They had no wish to tarry and see who emerged victorious from this fracas."
Nephele felt a pang of frustration. They had been so near to seizing the leader of the group, but now she had slipped from their grasp.
She knew that they couldn't let her get away with what she had done. They needed to find her and bring her to justice.
"We can't let her get away with this," Nephele said, determination in her voice.
Eos nodded. "We won't," he said. "But for now, let's get out of here."
He bent down and scooped Nephele up into his arms, carrying her down the path toward the forest.
For a moment, Nephele was taken aback by Eos' actions, but she soon relaxed in his arms, feeling secure and safe.
"Where are we going?"
"We need to find the flower, but we need to find a safe place before the night comes. The Misty Mountains are not a safe place, no matter how picturesque they look. And you need to rest."
Nephele laid her head on his shoulder as he carried her and let herself feel his warm body against hers.
Nephele felt a wave of relief crash over her as Eos carried her away from the battlefield. She closed her eyes and let his warm body against hers be a source of comfort. As they walked further into the forest, she felt her weariness slowly slip away.
They stopped at a clearing in the woods, where Eos placed Nephele down gently on the ground. He then set about to make a fire, gathering dry wood and kindling from the forest floor. Soon enough, the flames were dancing and crackling, providing warmth and light for Nephele to rest.
"We stay here until morning," said Eos. "Then we can continue our search for the Golden Moonflower."
