After leaving the Interior Minister's office Jacob drove me home before hurrying back to work. His boss was irritated enough at the random leaves of absence he'd been taking recently, and he didn't want to annoy him any more than necessary. He did promise that we'd have celebratory dinner that night, though.

At home I opened the envelope. The birth certificate was a large blue page that listed the various details of myself and my parents. My name was listed as "Vivian Prandiani". My parents were listed as "Rose" and "George". The family name of my mother's father was also listed as "Prandiani". That might have looked strange, but since both beast-kin and peasants had no family names, I might as well just have them all listed with the same family name. It was simpler.
