Joining

Back home I didn't waste any time calling the number Ronit gave me. If I waited, I might fall prey to doubt once again, but if I started the process, it would be much easier to continue. A woman answered.

"Ohel Avraham Conversion School, how can I help you?"

"Hello. I would like to join your program."

"Before you can register you need either a letter from a Rabbi certifying that you've been participating in your local Jewish community for at least a year, or a letter of recommendation from an Israeli Jew. Do you happen to have either of those?"

A year of participation before I can even begin to study? Wasn't that a little backwards?

"I don't have either of those right now, but I think I can get the second one."

"Good. Get the letter first, then come back to us."

I immediately sent a message to Jacob and Rebecca.

"I need to talk to you about something important. Can I come to your house tonight?"
