First Day

VIVIAN

When Jacob left for class, it was time for me to get to work cleaning and arranging our rooms, but there wasn't too much to do. When I was done, I took some money and headed out to the market.

I wasn't too worried about theft. Not only did we divide the gold and hide it in multiple hiding spots, but all the students in the school, even the poor ones, were mages who were already receiving substantial sums as monthly support. The human staff of the school were well-paid, and slaves wouldn't have much use for money, since they couldn't spend much without raising suspicion on themselves. There was little chance that there would be someone in the school who'd risk committing such a crime. Even if there was, with Jacob's stipend of fifty gold a month, losing it all wouldn't be a disaster. He'd earn it all back within a little more than half a year.
