Oscar Romero

Oscar Romero was a Roman Catholic priest in El Salvador who sadly passed away in 1980.

Oscar was promoted to Archbishop of San Salvador in 1977.

He became a strong defender of the injustices of his people.

As he became more famous, people began to listen to sermons on the radio. He denounced the war in San Salvador and the leaders who created it and people began to call Oscar "The Voice of the Voiceless" for saying things that people did not say: the reality of injustice.

In 1979, there was a coup, at first Oscar supported them until they went after the Catholic churches and he asked the United States for help in a letter to Jimmy Carter in 1980.

That year Oscar was shot in a chapel while celebrating mass, but no one was able to find who committed the crime.
