Chapter 16: Return

The gossip spread across the continent like forest fire, even to the revered halls of the Imperial Palace where the current First Prince--Yan Zheng—found himself a combination of surprised and worried. It was eyebrow-raising among his courtiers and advisors that his cousin had been defeated by someone who was relatively unknown.

It was difficult for Yan Zheng, a man well-known for his astute political calculations and martial skills, not to feel some disbelief at this news. "Su Chen?" he asked aloud almost disbelievingly. "Where did he suddenly appear from with those guys?" he was cultivating yesterday when the fight happens, so he didn't see what kind of people did his cousin fight.

This made them look at one another meaningfully, each person's face reflecting the gravity of their present predicament as it touched on Wang Chu's defeat of Murong Lingyun whose ambitions were well known all over and connections deeply rooted within. The delicate balance in the empire could be thrown off kilter following this defeat.

Meanwhile in opulent surroundings of Xu Family estate, there is a girl named Xu Lin who listens closely to conversations filtering into her ears. This lady belonged to one of the most noble families of the state which had made it possible for her to meet Murong Lingyun quite often when she realized that all her affection had become less important than admiration for his tactical cleverness.

However, Murong Lingyun's rejection still tasted bitter in her mouth: hence upon learning about his loss; curiosity alongside self-righteousness intensified inside her. Finally she said affirmatively "Murong Lingyun has been defeated by Su Chen," while talking to intimate friends, eyes shining with excitement and earnestness because certain events may just serve as a reminder or revenge taking place." Even stubborn people are humbled by fate."

Formerly an unknown character among martial circles, Su Chen's name was now on everyone's lips. Everyone speculated about Su Chen's background; where he trained from; even who might have coached him into being such an outstanding martial artist. This led to the buzz around while all those who were not his followers wondered who Wang Chu was.

The news reverberated across the nation causing factions and alliances to adjust their strategies subtly in response to the ever-changing landscape of power and ambition. In a turbulent period like this, Yan Zheng started reconsidering his views about strength and loyalty because he knew sometimes his friends may turn enemies or total strangers might come to his help.

Wang Chu had no time to waste so he acted promptly after hearing about Murong Lingyun's defeat. He gave them a stern look as he addressed all of them together with these words.

"It is time," Wang Chu declared, "We go towards the northern coastline there settle at that backside of sky swallowing beast."

Still coming to terms with this recent setback, Murong Lingyun nodded."Master, we should travel quietly, I suggest we use carriage rather than being noticed moving without any cover."

Upon reflecting on this point, Wang Chu found it wise for them to keep a low profile during their journey. "Ok," he concurred signaling plans for leaving town that were already entering his mind.

The disciples had a sense of anticipation tempered by caution as they set off on their journey very early in the morning, traversing different landscapes that characterized the northern coast. They walked through rugged terrain, coastal towns and thick forests towards the hind part of the sky-eating beast but also into unknown.

Ambushers, who were quick to kill and shrouded in mystery, broke the calmness of that morning.

Wang Chu's reply could not have been more overwhelming. Still his disciples watched in awe as he used a technique so meticulous and devastating with such an ocean of calm laid over him. By using the seeds from the fruit Xiao Chi was eating.

In response to this demonstration of skill among disciples, there was surprise on their faces. It was only when Murong Lingyun realized that there were no ordinary bandits did he speak after the skirmish ended.

"These were no ordinary robbers," said Murong Lingyun, sounding sure of himself. "They must be one of those aristocratic families trying to confirm if we are strong enough."

There is a silent realization within the group about how serious their task has become and how many people fear uncertainty when it comes to Wang Chu's powers now being no longer mere whisperings which can alter everything in the empire balance.

Arriving close to where it stood near the sea shore; Murong Lingyun noticed an enormous figure looming above him, it was sky devouring beast. The big creature lay sound asleep nearby emanating ancient energy and tranquility.

Wang Chu walked up towards Sky Devouring Beast's dormant form with eyes filled with determination while its massive size spoke volumes about its ancient might. Moving his hand showing honor for what wisdom this beast possessed Wang Chu addressed him sternly.

"Sky Devouring Beast," said Wang Chu in a somber tone.

The animal woke up gradually with its eyes slowly opening as if it had awakened from deep sleep. "Master," it bellowed with the voice that seemed like it echoed across the land. "What do you need me to do?"

Wang Chu spoke firmly but softly as he looked at the beast's eyes showing his realization of their burdens. "Get into your 100-meter form and be an island, just numb your senses from external noises".

In response, the creature began changing shape on command by Wang Chu. Little by little, hardly perceptibly at first, its massive stature grew larger and heavier until it became a large floating mass down the sea which appeared like a colossal island.

Murong Lingyun usually calm though now slightly disturbed by its incredible power faltered before asking cautiously: "Master is this… safe?" For once his self-assurance wavered giving way to some signs of fear.

Teasingly calling Murong Lingyun, Su Chen said:"Scared sissy?" Then Xiao Chi who was just next to him laughed heartily and playfully nudged Murong Lingyun.

Wang Chu perceived the worry behind their chat and calmly but definitively assured Murong Lingyun, he said, locking his eyes on him. "The Sky Devouring Beast is obedient to us and it will not harm us."

It was toward Old Ji and others that Wang Chu turned gesturing them to stay at the safe distance until entering into the alternate form of the island. "Wait here," he ordered with calmly in his voice while assuming authority over everything. "I'll create a terrain that can be used for cultivating as well as training."

Old Ji nodded in approval for he understood why Wang Chu was doing all this preparation. "As you wish, Young Lord," he said, scrutinizing every direction with his experienced eyes.

After gathering all disciples below the transformed shape of Sky Devouring Beast, Wang Chu became more focused than ever before. This gigantic beast appeared like an island with an empty land. He needs to alter the terrain of this in order for them to live in a place like this. Although this place is convenient, the only disadvantage is its not a naturally formed land so he need the system to transform it.

As the disciples assembled beneath their transformed Sky Devouring Beast, Old Ji launched out his powerful spirit sense. After getting a feel for the various pavilions of this island-like expanse, as well as its alchemy chamber, weapon station, and training courtyard, he brought his focus back to their immediate surroundings.

Meanwhile, Wang Chu used his profound cultivation to create an invisible barrier around one part of the island. While it would prevent anything from getting through in a way that wouldn't disturb their activities on the rest of the island, those with spiritual energy could still feel that there was an area they were barred from entering.

As they marveled at all of these new sights and wondered how any of this was real life, the disciples found themselves looking towards the other side of the island. The very sight of it would be enough to make them want to explore further… if only it wasn't blocked off by Wang Chu's newly-established barrier.

"There is much we need to do first," he warned them not to get too curious. "Stay away from there until I say so."

Wang Chu led the way towards the main pavilion, a grand structure that served as the heart of their new base. Its intricate designs reflected both elegance and functionality, embodying Wang Chu's vision of a place where they could convene, strategize, and cultivate together.

Su Chen and Old Ji remained outside the pavilion, engaged in a quiet conversation as they observed the surroundings. Su Chen's eyes were sharp as he glanced at Old Ji, his expression thoughtful. "Old Ji, have you finished analyzing master's strength?" he inquired, his tone indicating a genuine interest in understanding Wang Chu's capabilities better.

Old Ji, a venerable figure whose years of cultivation had honed his insights, shook his head slightly. "I'm afraid I can't see through Wang Chu completely," he admitted with a respectful tone. "His strength is shrouded in mystery, but I can sense that it might rival our the current patriarch."
