Cyan opened the door and saw King Nixon standing at the entrance of the room. She was surprised. Not only had the King been staring at her all night, but now he is right here. At her door.
"King Nixon." She bowed down respectfully. She might have been able to behave the way she wants towards Richard and Rita but not King Nixon. He is a very dangerous King with a reputation for it. Also, everyone knows about his zero tolerance for disrespect.
"Can I come in?" He asked her. "Sure." She nodded her head and opened the door wider so that he can enter as he was a huge man.
She shut the door close immediately after he entered. She turned and faced him. He walked further into the room and sat down on her bed. "Uhmm, King Nixon..." She did not know what to say. She was at loss. When last did this happen to her?
"Finally, I get some time alone with General Cyan." King Nixon said with a wry smile on his face. As a reaction to the smile, Cyan's heart started beating fast.
'What is wrong with me?' She thought.
She cleared her throat. "If I may ask, do you by any chance know me before?" She asked. "Why do you ask?" He asked her back as he stood up. "You-you were lo-looking at me all-all night." She said shakily while moving back since King Nixon had begun to move towards her.
"Was I?" He asked her with a hint of amusement in his voice. Cyan kept moving backward. 'What is wrong with this man?' She asked herself. Soon her back hit the wall and she had nowhere to move to anymore.
King Nixon did not stop walking towards her and when he was some inches away from her, she shot her hands out to stop him from moving any closer.
"I- I hope yo-you know that this do-does not look very good on-on you. It is no-not a noble th-thing to-to do." She said, stammering very badly. It felt like her heart will soon jump out of her mouth. It was beating that fast!
"What exactly am I doing?" He asked her. "You asked if I knew you before. I just want to check if truly I know you before now or not." He said in a very serious tone that got Cyan wondering if she was just overreacting.
He took hold of the hands that were stretched out to stop him. He held them delicately and carefully looked at them. She looked at him weirdly, wondering what he was looking at on her hand. She had a scar on her wrist and another one very close to her elbow.
"I guess my eyes are on my hands since you are looking at them to know if you know me before now." She muttered in sarcasm to herself. King Nixon immediately looked up and squinted his eyes at her. "Did you just sass me?" He asked her with a serious tone coupled with a serious face.
She became nervous noticing how serious he had become. 'Is he angry now?' She did not even expect him to have heard what she said.
"No, I did not." She quickly said. She drew her lower lip into her mouth with her teeth and looked everywhere but him.
She felt his hand on her face and she allowed him to slowly turn her face. She felt tingles right where his hand was. He stared straight into her eyes. He even seemed dazed by it. By now, he had released her hands.
His hand was on her face and the other was around her waist as he drew her a little closer. Her own hands had somehow found their way to his shoulders. She was not even trying to push him away.
He continued looking deep into her eyes and he leaned in a little closer. Her breathing quickened. Her mouth was slightly opened and she could not bring herself to look away from him. She wondered what he was doing.
His lips slowly curled into a smirk. "Looks like I might happen to know you before now." He said and pulled himself far from her.
"I should probably leave now." He said and he then sat down. 'He just said he should leave and now he is sitting down. I do not understand this King.' She thought again.
After a few seconds of silence, "What happened? He asked her out of nowhere. "What?" She said, not knowing what he meant.
He stood up and walked towards her again. She tried to move back again but he grabbed her by the waist and pulled her closer to him. Her heart decided to run a race again. He bent down and whispered into her ear, "I will find out." He then stood straight and slowly let go of her waist.
"I guess this is goodbye...for now." He then walked towards the door. He turned back and waved at her before finally leaving. Immediately the door closed, and she heaved a deep sigh of relief. She tried to get her racing heart under control. "What just happened?" She asked herself.
...
The maids helped Rita to get out of her clothes. They were helping her to take off the pins in her hair when Richard entered. "Why are you just coming?" She asked him.
"I had a few words with Livius."He said firmly. He removed his robe. Rita immediately turned and looked at him. "What are you doing? I told you to never remove your clothes when the maids are present." She scolded him, loudly. Her voice was so sharp that even the maids jumped a little bit.
"I just removed the robe. Do you want me to die of heat?" He asked angrily, his brows drawn together. She turned back again and the maids continued their work. "Maybe General Cyan is right." Richard suddenly said out of nowhere.
"What?" Rita asked confused by his statement. "Maybe you are truly doing too much. You always tell me what to do. You are so controlling." He said angrily, his voice getting louder.
Rita did not like the way he was speaking to her but tried to keep herself in control. "Leave." She said to the maids and they left. Immediately they left, Rita stood up to face Richard. "What in the world are you saying?!" She asked, her voice tight from trying to keep her anger at bay.
"What I am saying is that you are way too controlling. You control my life and every single thing that I do. You make me feel unfit to be King-" "I am just trying to help you." She shouted back at him.
"Your f*king help is not needed. The same thing you did with King Nixon you are doing with General Cyan. What exactly is your problem?" He yelled at her with equal energy.
"My problem? You ask me what my problem is. Well, I'll tell you. You are so weak. You are a weak man. You are never in control of anything-" "That is because you never let me-" "No." Rita cut him off.
"It is because you are truly not fit to be King. You can not do anything right. You can not even let go of Adhley-" "Not a word about her!" His voice turned guttural.
"Why? Every time I talk about her it seems like I hit a nerve. Why can you not let go of her?! She is already f*king dead. Accept it and let it go. You killed her! We killed her. She is gone, gone, and gone forever! What will you do about it? Huh?!" She taunted him.
He moved closer to her angrily with his hand raised to hit her. She gasped and he managed to hold himself back which resulted in his hand hanging in the air.
"You want to hit me? Really? Go ahead. Do it. Come on, you want to show you're a man right? Why don't you just go ahead and hit me? I dare you to try it and be completely ruined because trust me, I will make sure of that." She said, her tone low and deadly.
They both glare at each other until Richard put his hand down. Rita huffed angrily and left the room, slamming the door behind her.
