chapter forty four

Maya started teaching me how to drive little by little and now I'm a professional driver.

Professional driver? My foot. My mind retorted.

I continued the make up on my face happily. Ahmad called me and told me he's taking me out today and could I be more excited?

"Sleeping ugly wake up. Its noon already." I continuously tapped on Maya's leg but she didn't even move a bit. I rolled my eyes at her and brought out a sticky note.

'Hey you heavy sleeper. I stood here wasting my time to wake you up for more than thirty minutes which was actually thirty seconds but did you move at all? No. I wanted to tell you that I'm going out with a friend of mine that I will hopefully tell you about when I come back.

I reread the content and shrugged sticking it where she will definitely see it,that's the mirror.

Locking the house with my keys,I dropped it in my purse and brought out my car key.

I whistled as I sashayed to the car. This is the second time I'm driving on my own without my instructor and that is Maya. I prayed in my mind and drove out of the house to the location Ahmad sent me.

Upon reaching there,i saw his car packed where other cars were packed. I looked around and saw not a single soul there. I called him to confirm if this was really the place.

"I'm standing right next to the car that looks like yours." I informed him as he picked my call.

"Okay I'm coming to get you now." Ahmad said and I hung up waiting happily for him.

"Asalam alaikum." Ahmad greeted smiling as he reached where I was.

"Wa alaika salam. Here you are." I smiled also.

We walked further into the quiet place and that's when the beauty of the place started coming to view.

Sofas were arranged on the full green grass there. There was carpets also with people seated on it. Beautiful and handsome birds were flying around freely

A stream was by the side of the place. Everywhere was just so beautiful and serene.

We sat on the carpet and gist about random things. The foods in that place was all a la carte but it was excellent. The most happiest part of all was that Ahmad confessed to me. He said he loved me truly because of Allah and it was marriage love as in love of marriage. I did another dumb thing of my life that moment. I didn't think twice before I agreed immediately.

A call came through my phone and it was Maya.

I picked it with a smile eager to share my happiness with her.

"Hey girl." I said but no response.

"Hello?"

No response.

"Maya?" I asked again and that's when I started faintly hearing her voice but it was cracking.

Ughhh this phone. It has been giving me some unreasonable problems lately.

I put the phone on loudspeaker and that's when the phone decided to return back to life. I regretted doing that,especially in Ahmad's presence.

"KHAIR, I SAID WHERE ARE YOU?! I HAVE BEEN CALLING YOU SINCE. COME TO STEPHANIE'S HOUSE IMMEDIATELY YOU OVER WALKING STUFF!" Maya shouted through the phone disgracing my life.

"OK mum." I rolled my eyes at her and hung up.

I looked up and my eyes settled on Ahmad's eyes. He let out an amused chuckle while my chuckle was that of embarrassment.

"Maya would be the death of me. I have to go. I don't know what could be so important that she will have to....." I said with a sigh of annoyance.

"I understand. We should get going now right?"

"Right"

With that being said,we stood up and walk our cars not after him settling the bills.

"Call me when you get home." Ahmad said while I was entering my car with him holding the car's door.

"Insha Allah. Byeeee."

"Bye. Love you" he smiled and waved. I wasn't even able to wave back because of shyness.

I quickly roared the car back to life and drove off to Stephanie's house. I was smiling like a lunatic lovesick teenager throughout the drive.

"Salam alaikum the people of this small room." I said as I stepped into Stephanie's room.

"Wa alaikis salam you over walking stuff." Both Maya and Stephanie answered at the same time. The two shared a knowing look and bursted out laughing.

I wonder what's that funny.

"Steph you answered my salam,how?" I asked what I wanted to ask.

"Yeah. You guys say it almost every minutes so even on the phone so its only fair if the word stick to my brain. And the word is actually beautiful Masha Allah." She finished with a smile.

The way 'Masha Allah' rolled out of her tongue was amazing. I prayed in my mind for her to convert to Islam.

"So....?" I trailed

"So what?" Maya asked

"You called me urgently here. What's urgent?"

"Nothing. We are just having girls time." Maya shrugged and I opened my mouth in surprise

"Seriously?! That's why you have to chase me away from my habibi?!" I yelled

"Calm down. I heard habibi in your sentence. Explain!" Maya ordered.

"Well,I had intended to tell you today,in the evening but nevertheless let me tell you now. You remember that guy that every girl was staring at in the school some months ago?" I asked looking at them one after the other.

"Jace?" Came Maya's voice.

"Eww no!"

"My brother?" Stephanie said.

"Ughhh. Let me just get straight to the point. That guy that drove inside the uni premises,you remember?"

"Yes" "yeah" "Okayyyy" "ohhhh" that's all they kept mumbling.

"His name is Ahmad and  that's my fiancé to be." I squealed and the both looked at me with squinted eyes. They looked at themselves and started laughing loudly.

I rolled my eyes at them and said "I'm very serious."

"How will we know you're saying the truth." Stephanie said with that sarcastic smile of hers.

I bought out my phone and showed them his number. They did the most annoying thing again, they laughed crazily at me.

"Khair. Don't worry,if the time of having your fiancé comes,it won't get past you. Stop deceiving yourself." Maya said squeezing my shoulder for some stupid assurance.

"You won't get...." I started but got caught off by my phone's ringtone. It was Ahmad calling.

I smiled and picked it saying my salam and placing the phone on loudspeaker.

He asked if I have reached my destination safely.

"Tell him to make a video call with you now." Stephanie whispered in my ear and I looked at her and Maya suspiciously. Maya nodded her head for me to go on.

"Huh Ahmad, do you mind if we do video call now?" I asked him un-confidently 

"Sure"he replied,hung up and called me with video call.

"Hi again"I said looking at his blurred face. I moved around the room in search of service.

His voice and face was cracking and these two won't leave me alone. They were both on my neck trying to get a view if Ahmad.

I hissed and hung up.

"Wallahi this phone is so annoying. When did I bought it that it is doing this rubbish? I have to be managing it now cos I can't buy new one. I have a lot of problems bigger than phone and you two are over disturbing me. I can't believe you guys can't believe me that Ahmad is real and he's the dreamy guy. Annoying children!" I yelled and hissed again.

"Khair you're busy talking. You know you haven't hung up right?" Stephanie said raising an eyebrow at me.

I looked at my phone and it's true.

"Oh my God he might have heard all my blabbering. Innalillahi." I said as I continuously tapped on the red button more than twenty times.

Damn this embarrassing phone.

My day was going smoothly with me chilling with Ahmad until Maya and Stephanie decided to ruin it.

I sighed and lied on her bed leaving two of them talking about stuffs I don't care to listen to.

I was almost dozing off when a call entered my phone. I checked and it was Ahmad. I blushed and picked it.

"Hello." I said quietly.

"Hey you....."

"Did you hear what I was saying some minutes ago?" I asked directly not waiting for him to finish his statement.

He chuckled and replied "nop I didn't"

"You're lying, aren't you?"

"Yes."

I felt so ashamed of myself. I groaned softly and sink myself in the bed cover.

"Don't worry about that. Send me your friend's address. What's her name again?" Ahmad asked and I wonder what and why he needs to know Stephanie but I answered him anyway. I typed the address to him and he said he was on his way which I don't believe.

I played games on my phone to pass time before Ahmad appears. In less than ten minutes, he called saying he was outside,though it wasn't simple to hear what he was saying through the phone.

"I'm going to meet Ahmad now."I announced to the girls and they just look at me then shook their heads at me pathetically.

Annoying children.

Upon reaching outside, he was there for real. I greeted him and he opened his car door for me to enter.

Such a nice gentleman.

After five minutes talking, he said he wanted to give me something.

"What's that?" I asked curiously

"Wait,close your eyes and stretch your hand." He said.

I did as he said excitedly. He dropped something on my hand.

"Can I open my eyes now?" I asked giddily.

"Not yet. Guess what it is"

I feel the box and tried to say a reasonable thing.

"Chocolate box?" I answered unsure and he laughed.

"Well nop. Just open your eyes"

I carefully opened my eyes and I saw it was a brand new phone.

"Oh my God! Thank you but you don't have to" I said with the largest smile.

"What should husband do for his wife." He wiggled his brows.

Oh boy,I almost flied.

"Omg Khair!" I heard Stephanie's voice and I turned to the direction abruptly.

She was standing hands akimbo with Maya both with shocked expression.

"So he is actually real?" They both said at the same time as if they planned it. Steph was still shocked while Maya was....frowning.

"Awwwn. You both look cute together." Maya said while Stephanie said the most unexpected thing.

"You stole my boyfriend."she said angrily and stomped back to her room.

Ohhhhh kai!

She's embarrassing my life in front of Ahmad.

"Huh,I should be going now." I said lowly to Ahmad. Those two just killed my mood.

"OK. We shall talk later alright?"

"Yeah thank you very very much again." I said through the window as I have alighted from his car.

"Never mind. Love you bye." He said starting the car engine and I blushed.

He always find a reason to make me smile.

I couldn't say anything back again as I went back inside thinking of what to say to Stephanie. I met Maya standing by the door side with hands on her chin.

Seems like she's thinking.

"Hey sis. You have seen Ahmad with your own eyes right? And see what he bought me. A new phone. He just figured out my phone was faulty and he bought me new one. Isn't he cute?" I rambled giggling.

"Yeah he is." She said without a hint of humour and to top it all,with a forced smile.

Okayyy!

I gave her a scrutinizing long look and shrugged. I went inside the room just to see Stephanie crying. As in like real tears.

"Steph?!" I called coming closer and touching her shoulder.

"You're crying?" I asked the obvious.

"You stole my boyfriend." She said looking up at me with red puffy eyes.

Wow! Woow!!

"I'm so sorry. I don't know what to do. Pls stop crying. You make me feel guilty as if it is wrong to love." I said sincerely.

"OK" she wiped her tears and glared at me.

"I know how to handle you and my mind." She concluded hugging me.

"Have you forgiven me?"

"Errrr nop. Maybe later."

"I bet you will." I laughed and she joined me.

"I can't believe Khair has Ahmad." She said

"She don't deserve him." He agreed with her.

"I shall teach her a lesson. I can't believe she even has the gut!" The lady said with disgust.

"You should. We should keep an eye on her then find the perfect time and get rid of her." The man smirked

"That's sounds interesting." The lady also smirked and moved to high five the man.

They moved out of the room hand in hand laughing on humorless thing.
