A New World

"...." It was a bright and sunny day.

"....." Around me were countless amounts of trees.

"..." At a considerable distance was a city that looked similar to fantasy towns in the medieval age. The city was surrounded by large stone walls, however from this distance, I can't make out the details, no, I just didn't want to.

"This is a joke right?" Then finally, I spoke my first words in this new world.

"I thought I could finally...god, I'm too tired for this shit." I smiled crookedly, not knowing whether this is a blessing or a curse.

I looked up to the sky, asking for the one who put me here but naturally I didn't receive nor heard anything.

With a click of my tongue, I focused my vision on the city I ignored earlier, by estimation, it would take 3 hours to arrive at the city.

So I immediately descended the hill that I was at and soon the forest was just in front of me.

I dreaded what horrors might await me in the forest but I still took a step into the forest with nothing to lose.

I occasionally find berry bushes and wild animals such as boars and deer, which can be compared to the forests of my former home but soon my stomach reminded me of its existence and told me to eat.

I saw a couple of berries in the bushes near me so decided to pick some and with the limited knowledge I got from the internet, I try to check if it was poisonous or not. Finding no traces of poison that reacted to my skin, I cautiously squeezed the berries and tasted a tiny drop of it.

"Not bad." After saying that, I ate another berry.

The berry tasted sweet with a tinge of sourness similar to my former world's wild berries. I was reminded of my life again so I shook my head trying to move on. "Nothing I can do about it."

By noon, I arrive at the front gate, there were two guards in the front gate and another two above it, equipped with short bows.

There were groups of people going in and out, he noticed that most of the people who are leaving are equipped with swords and staff.

"If there is an adventurers guild in this world then maybe I could find a job easily." This may be because of the influence of manga and novels or my interest in swordsmanship but I hoped for the existence of an adventurers guild.

But there was one big problem that he couldn't ignore.

"ꪊᧁᦓᛕꪗᧁᦓᛕᦓꪮꪖ ꪮꪗ᧒ᦲꪊᧁᦔ꠹ꫀꪜ꠸ᦔꪶꪮꪗᧁᦓ ꪮꫝᦓᛕꪮᦓᧁꪜᦔ." A man said my left.

"ꪊᦓᧁ᥊ᛕ᥊ꫝᦓᛕᦓꪮ ᭙ꪻ᭙ᛕ꠸ᦓᠻᦓᧁꫀꪶρꪊꪊ ꫝꪮᦓꪗᦓꪜᦔ꠸ᦔ꠹ρ?." Another man said in a tone similar to asking a question.

"ꪊᦓꫝᦓꪀꪜᦓ꠹ꪀꫀ꠸." A woman responded to his question briefly before they passed by me.

Around me were people speaking in gibberish which quite troubled me, but I couldn't just keep standing here so I decided to enter the city.

Thankfully, there was no toll for entering the city so I just walked in however, there were groups of people staring at me weirdly.

Understandably I was wearing something not the common people of this world have ever seen.

I was still wearing my uniform, a dark long-sleeved polo, and dark blue jeans, the hole where I was stabbed in my black jacket was also mysteriously gone.

Having no knowledge about the language of this world was a massive disadvantage for me and so I decided to go to the market first and observe how money works in this city.

After an hour or so, I observed the buyer and seller's gibberish ramblings, then the buyer took out some silver and copper-colored coins. 'That must be silver and copper coins then. Considering the buyer took out more copper coins than silver coins to buy multiple loaves of bread, The copper coins must be less valuable.' With that conclusion in mind, I left the market and decided to find some sort of places like an adventurers guild or at least somewhere to rest.

But the sun was already starting to set and his stomach seemed to remind him again to eat so I went back to the front gate and left, the guards there were looking at me with concern but I chose to ignore it.

Foraging for berries was easy but really tiring, in the end, I only managed to get a handful or two of berries and put them in the pockets of my jacket but I soon encountered his first enemy, a wild boar.

This boar was different from the boars he encountered on the way to the city, there were two sharp horns pointed in front of it as if its only use is to stab things and its hide had a different hue of brown.

Without warning the boar charged at me but reacted quickly, dodging to the left but slipping on a tree root.

The boar was prepared to charge again but this time, I dodged again without slipping, and with my quick thinking, I positioned myself in front of a tree.

The boar charged quickly but again, I dodged it and the boar was now charging toward a tree.

The boar's horn was stuck to the tree more deeper than I had expected and I signed in relief for not letting myself get hit but I quickly grabbed a large rock and prepared myself to attack its head.

Cries of the boar reverberated in my ears but I didn't react, I couldn't, I didn't know how to react to this.

The cries soon stopped and the sound of me hitting the boar one last time was heard.

I breathed deeply, I was very tired to the point of collapse, I looked at my hand expressionlessly, it was scratched because of the rock but it was also mixed with a little bit of the boar's blood. "What a waste of energy, I can't even collect the meat from this boar."

With a click of my tongue, I looked for a comfortable spot to sleep and eat my berries although most of them fell out of my jacket during the fight.

Soon my tiredness takes over me and I soon fall asleep.

"꠸ᠻꪀꫝ꠹ᠻ꠹꠸᥅ᦔꪇ ᭙᥅ᧁ꠹ꪶρꪊ᥅᭙ᥴꪜ."

"ᥴꪮᠻᲖᧁꪊꪮᠻ᥅ꪗ?"

"ꪗꫀᦓ." Talking, that was the first thing I heard I woke up.

I dreaded what was going to happen next but I braced myself for what was about to happen.

I opened my eyes thinking that I might see the familiar forest but instead a stone ceiling was the first thing I saw.

When he looked around, Himura saw bars, it seems I was in jail.

I looked confused at first, not knowing why I was in a jail cell but then someone near him called out something.

"ꫝꫀꪗ!" When I looked at the source of the voice, I saw a woman sitting on the other side of the room, looking at me mischievously.

"꠹ᦓᧁᦓ ᛕᦓ꠸ᦓᧁᦓ ꪀᦓꪶᦓꪊ᥇ᦓ꠸ᦔ?"

"ᦓ꠸᥇᥊ꪮꪶρ ρᦓꫝꪊᠻꪀ ꪜꫝꪊꪻꫀꪜ ᛕᦓᛕ᥇ꫝᦔꪻ ᭙ρꪖꪶ?"

"?" I tilt my head in confusion because I was thinking about what to say or because this was the first time someone talked to me not to mention that I can't even understand her.

The mysterious woman drops the mischievous smile and looks at me troubled.

The woman then called out to the guard of this place and started talking to me while occasionally looking at me.

It looks like she's familiar with the people here, especially the guards which was worrying.

The guard then nodded and left and the mysterious woman went back to her seat, looking at me for the rest of the duration.

After some time the guard arrives with a mysterious ring.

The mysterious woman stands up again and took the ring and flick a bright yellow colored coin to the guard.

'That must be a gold coin then.' The woman then throws the ring at me. Naturally, I immediately wear the ring before she speaks again. "Can you understand me now?"

Suddenly I understood what the woman was saying, but I wanted to know it turned their language into Japanese but I couldn't just stand there so immediately I tried to say my response. "Yes."

The woman raised one of her eyebrows seemingly confused but then the woman speaks.

"That ring translates what I'm saying to a language that you can understand but it can't translate what language you are saying, the ring is set to translate common."

'Common eh? must be a universal language for most people. And this ring, I guess is a translation ring of something.' Looking at her clearly now she had pale skin and pointed ears, an elf perhaps?

"Is there something in my face?" I shake my head, trying to deny it.

"Alright then since it's still midnight, I'd like to talk to you." I nod at her.

The elf nods back, happily and starts conversing with me using yes or no questions, in summary, these are the things she talks to me about:

Q: Did you know how got in here?

A: Himura shakes his head

Q: Did you know you were hunting in the hunting ground of Bellken?

A: Himura shakes his head

Q: Do you have anywhere to live or did you just arrive at Bellken, shake your head if its the latter

A: Himura nods his head

Q: Do you live in other cities?

A: Himura shakes his head

"Hahahahaha! Have you been living under a rock?" The elf laughs loudly, amused by my answers.

From our conversation, I found out that I was in the city called Bellken, the forest around Bellken is a hunting ground for hunters which requires a hunting permit, and that the universal language of this world is called "Common".

Our conversation was then interrupted by one of the guards who seemed to have listened to our conversation.

"Oi, brawler archer time for you to go and take the boy with you."

"Hey I'm not a brawler, I'm just an archer!" She said with a pouting face.

"Oh please must I remind you that the reason you're here in the first place is that you fought with one of the drunkards in the adventurers guild again?" He speaks in a tired tone while one of his hands was on his forehead.

"And it's not my fault okay? He started it first." She said with great conviction.

He waves off her answer and unlocked the cell. "Yeah sure, anyway can you two just fuck off already."

"Hrmmmmm, fine." She said angrily as I followed her out.

'It seems I was right, the adventurers guild does exist' Delighted with the news, we left the guards station and saw a familiar street.

The elf was heading in the other direction so I decided to follow her.

"Um, might I ask why you're following me?" I look at her expressionlessly.

"Do you have anywhere to go?" I shake my head.

"How about money" I shake my head again.

"I see, then I'll assume that you have no job then right?" I look away in shame.

"Alright then, how about I registered you to the adventurers guild then?" I nod my head happily.

"Then the adventurers guild we go then!" She declares happily and the weird elf and I made our way to the so-called adventurers guild.
