day three, a familiar face

I sent Raya ahead to look for an intact house in the ruins as I stayed in the center area, old memories of a time I regret flowing freely as I laid there on the dust of the ground, Raya had come back now and was looking at me weird.

I sat up and looked around, my body freezing when I spotted the signature glow of a fire, and a controlled one at that, people.

I grabbed Raya by the rewrite and led her to the area, making sure she stayed quiet, it wasn't hard to get close unnoticed for me but Raya was struggling, really struggling, shebwas lucky that the person I could now see was oblivious to us.

the girl had familiar black hair and was dressed like it was still 6 thousand years ago, an aging tunic accompanied by a long skirt and leatherboots, I found myself unconciously stepping from my cover, why did I do that?

my foot snapped a twig and the girl turned.....Kina?!

"who's there?!"(kina)

"I'll have you know you're entering the cursed sanctuary of the succubus, the one protected by the red storm."(kina)

my guess was right all that time ago, she was half succubus, how did she live this long?

"hey I don't know if you're gonna remember me but it's me, your sister found me a long time ago, my name is different though."(syn)

"Fog?!"(kina)

"names Syn now, I didn't get to pick that one either, what are you doing out here?"(syn)

"I'm waiting for my sister, that red storm-"(kina)

"was my fault, an ability of mine got out of control I'm sorry, don't worry your sister Is alive and I know where we can find her."(syn) I told her with a gentle voice, I didn't know Amiras sister at all but I felt like I owed her.

"you do?!"(kina)

it seems that in all this time she hasn't aged mentally either, she may look more mature but she's still a kid inside.

I'm terrible.

Raya pov...

Syn recognized the girl, no, succubus, apparently he knew her sister, I've never even heard him mention a girl near me, I thought the only girl he knew was my mother before me.

the girl gestured for us to join her and syn accepted without hesitation, it seems he does know this girl.

once we were over near her and seated I couldn't control my curiosity anymore.

"so what's the red storm?"(Raya) I asked the girl.

"it was a weather phenomena that appeared over the kingdom out of nowhere, it drained the life from plants, animals, people, even drained the insects, ever since then nothing alive had come too close."(kina)

"it was my ability, evolving siphon going haywire, it responded to my emotions at the time."(syn) interrupted.

"I never got the chance to study your abilities."(kina) the girl said, disappointed.

"Amira came back alone from the job you two went on."(kina) the girl informed syn.

"yeah, me and her didn't last, I had to go put on my own and find what I wanted."(syn) said, in a sad voice.

"that's ok, I understand."(kina)

these two acted like reuniting old friends, what was the relationship here? wait! why do I care?!

"so.....have you been here all this time?"(syn)

"no, I did some traveling for a whole and went to somethings called libraries to learn more but I couldn't read any of the words in the books."(kina) told me, disappointed.

written language back then was something akin to Latin, I never had to deal with it so I never learned how to read it.

"so...Syn, was it? where's my sister?"(kina)

I took a second to think before I answered her.

"I heard someone say that they had her at their house, from what I could tell he was a friend and was helping your sister."(syn) I lied, her sister was being used and would be after me soon.

"can I come with you then?"(kina)

how would I explain that?

"sure, finding and bringing back survivors had always been worth extra in the gradings."(Raya) informed me.

"then yeah, sure, you can come back with us."(syn)

I turned to Raya as I realized that I have no idea where we need to go to get out of here.

"yes I know where we have to go to leave."(Raya)

told me without skipping a beat, I guess my face is pretty readable.

"you guys sleep, I'll take first watch."(syn)

"but you haven't slept yet, it's been two days!"(Raya) argued.

"I'm the strongest here, it makes the most sense and I'm fine, really."(syn)

"I'll take a turn, I'm pretty strong."(kina) said eith a smile.

"alright you two can have the first turn."(syn) I relented.

walking over to a nearby wall leaning against it and falling asleep almost in the same motion, drofting off into my less and less odd dreams.

Raya pov...

"so, how do you know Syn?"(Raya) i asked the girl, kina.

"he was a tamed monster my sister brought home in an egg."(kina)

"an egg?, wait tamed monster?!"(Raya)

"yes, he was barely level 3."(kina)

I was shocked, I didn't think he was ever that low a level, I just thought he started off strong and stayed that way.

"does it surprise you how human he looks?"(Raya)

"no."(kina)

such a confident answer, the more I learn about him the more questions I have.
