Sineas and Goliath

'Nice speech, kid,' Said Trevor, nonchalantly placing his giant hands into his jacket pockets. His eyes were purposely drooping, his face slightly elevated.

'Thanks,' Sineas replied.

'Where'd you get it from? A talk show?'

'From my head,' Sineas answered.

Trevor looked behind him, at his crew, massaging his chin slowly. He looked back at Sineas. His face was more hardened than before. 'I don't know where you got the idea that you could just get up there and talk about my dead pal like that.'

Clarissa stepped in front of Sineas. 'Trevor, please…'

'Na-ah, traitor,' he said waving a finger at her, 'I'm still talking to the ass. I'll get to the ex later.'

She opened her mouth to say something but Sineas pulled her gently to the side. He gave her a reassuring nod. Like a code, she nodded back.

'What do you want from me?' Sineas asked him.

Trevor stepped closer to him until their noses were almost touching. Trevor however was at least a few inches taller and he had to bend his neck lower so he could stare into Sineas' eyes. Sineas did not back out either but stared back at Goliath.

Trevor answered, 'I already told you, kid. This stupid idea you got that you think you knew Justin well enough to talk about him when every single person in this school saw him beat you to bits.'

'I didn't sign myself onto the list of speakers,' Sineas reasoned. 'The principal had the list.'

Trevor took a step back. He began to massage his chin again. He was grinning wickedly at him. He looked up and down at Sineas. He finally said, 'So…' he laughed briefly, 'So, you want us to believe that Principal Stanley…okay, let's just say that the side-burned rat in a ninety-nine cent store suit was one of the three blind mice. Are you trying to say that that blind, skinny fool was blind enough to believe that you; a nobody not even worth the piece of crap at the bottom of your mom's shoe knew anything about Justin?'

Sineas clenched his teeth tightly. He could feel Clarissa gripping his hand trying to step in. Sineas was infuriated. Trevor had just mentioned his mother and when he did, he just felt greatly exasperated. He wanted to breathe in deep like what he had seen once in a yoga program. He decided to breathe in deep through his nose. The air was hot and foul. Like a dragon, he felt like he could breathe fire at any moment. He cooled his temper down enough to speak. 'Like I said, Trevor; someone signed my name up with him.'

'So, who was it? Was it the cheap whore standing right next to you?'

Clarissa opened her mouth and got ready to hurl insults.

Sineas pulled her back but he never took his eyes away from Trevor. That red-headed overgrown abomination, Sineas thought. He tightened his left fist. He said, 'Trevor; do you seriously want to be the new Justin?'

Trevor immediately leapt forward with his fists in the air. 'What did you just say to me, you stupid nig..!'

From out of nowhere, Viola Jones or as Sineas referred to her in his head; Bubblegum girl, stepped in between the two. Sineas had not moved an inch however. 'Yo, yo, yo, fellas, chill!' she said placing a hand on Trevor's chest.

Trevor looked ready to shove her out of the way.

Sineas still did not move…and neither did his ferocious eyes.

Trevor was still trying to walk past Bubblegum girl but she would jump into his path.

'Yo, Trev, come on, chill, man!' she tried to calm him down.

'Out the way, V. You better move because I'm about to rip his fro off his scalp!'

'Trev, dude, chill!' she shouted directly into his face.

He relaxed his heavy breathing. He stopped moving. His gigantic shoulders were pulsating like two volcanoes ready to erupt. He did not withdraw his gaze from Sineas however. His eyes looked just as ferocious as his.

'I'm sure we all had a rough day,' said Bubblegum girl. The gum in her mouth could finally be heard. She continued, 'All we needs to do is just go home and take some chill pills a'ight?'

Trevor pushed her hand from his chest. He pointed a long thick finger at Sineas as he walked backwards. 'This isn't over, afro. You better believe that this isn't over.' He turned around and began walking towards the lunch tables, his squad trailing loyally behind him. Bubblegum girl looked at Sineas. She buried her left hand in one of her jacket pockets, her eyes staring hard at Sineas. Her face held no particular expression whatsoever. Her mouth was skilfully turning, popping and smacking the gum in her mouth.

She smiled and extended a small fist towards him. 'Yo, that was a dope speech you gave in there. Word.'

Sineas hesitated. He had managed to cool down but he still wasn't completely calm. He turned to Clarissa who only shrugged ignorantly at him. Eventually, he decided not to leave Bubblegum girl hanging.

She winked at them both then turned around. 'Don't worry about Trev,' she said, walking towards the lunch area at the same time, 'I'll keep him on a short leash. Guess I'll see you fellas tomora.'

Both Sineas and Clarissa were left in perplexity over what had just transpired.

Sineas had boarded a taxi and waved Clarissa goodbye as she made her way to the school bus. He was now making his way towards the door of his house. As soon as he got in and closed the door, he gave a very heavy sigh of fatigue. The house was very quiet. He dragged his feet towards the kitchen. He noticed that two of the three kitchen chairs were missing. His first thought was robbery but he changed his mind. Why would anyone break into a house to steal chairs…and leave one? He decided he was too tired for working out the math.

He walked towards the kitchen sink and he poured himself some water. He gulped down three cups in less than ten seconds then made his way towards the living room.

'Aunt Janice..!' he called out. 'Aunt Janice, did you take the…' He stopped just at the entrance of the living room. He dropped his bag onto the floor.

Aunt Janice was there, sitting on the couch. Her hands were between her knees and her eyes downward. She looked overwhelmed. Possible reason, right in front of her, sitting on the missing kitchen chairs were Inspector Charles and Deputy James.

The Inspector looked over his shoulder. He grinned at Sineas. 'Afternoon, Sineas. We're ready for you.'
