Did Benji want to deny Samson's message? Yes, he very much did. He wanted to deny every word that was coming out of Amanda's mouth… but as he'd lived with the man, making every waking day of his life difficult with his stubborn charades, he'd also come to realise exactly how much he cared for him.

It was not hard to miss this. An orphan like him, deprived of love, was bound to recognize the tiniest sliver of affection and the warmth and cosiness it came with.

Sacrifice, though, was a bit too much for him to take. Then there was that annoying sweet scent that wouldn't leave his nose, taunting him for attention.

Amanda easily recognized his expression of defeat. Her shoulders relaxed, "It looks like you have questions. I'll be taking over Samson's duties now, even though I know you hate my guts."
