Nineteen

Charlie woke up feeling a weight on his chest. Today was the day his soon to be fiancée was getting into town and he honestly couldn’t find the energy to fake a smile. He looked over at the pill bottle on his dresser, with a sigh he took out a pill and swallowed it.

“No sense in acting like a grouch when you have a plan for getting out of this.” He said to his reflection as he straightened his tie only to undo it. “What am I doing? It’s Rose, my pal, my buddy.” He deflated. “I’m doomed.”

There was a knock on his door and in walked Romi. “You comin’ out or what?”

“When one goes to see their old friend, that they also happen to be engaged to, what do they wear?”

“Well, for one thing, she’s your fiancée not a client for a law firm, so lose the suit. You’ll be heading to the docks, so wear shoes you don’t mind getting wet. Also its cold out, and your mother would rather you bundle up so you don’t get sick.” She said with a sarcastic smile.
