Thirty

Rose examined the ring selection sitting on her bed. After picking up Ash’s siblings they stopped by her store and she brought out some engagement rings. Rose knew that her engagement was on the rocks, but it was always good to have a back-up plan. Besides this way there wouldn’t be any suspicions about their agenda to get out of the marriage. Keeping up airs was a family talent.

Ash was watching her curiously as she lay on the bed. It turned out to be harder than she thought. They were all so pretty she was having a hard time deciding, although there wasn’t any real rush. She stuck to examining the rings that already came in her size. Ash had said she could make adjustments, but Rose felt making anything more complicated would be rude.

“What would you pick?” Rose asked.

Ash’s eyes widened. “Me?”

“Yes, you. Surely you’ve thought of what your perfect engagement ring would be.”
