Thirty-Seven

Ash walked into her room and got ready for bed. The dinner went well, although she wasn’t sure how she felt about being invited to Rose and Charlie’s upcoming trip. She was going to need to handle her shyness, it was a little unnerving to be in a room full of powerful people. Someday she would be seen as powerful and important. She lied down on her bed and curled up on her side eyes slipping shut.

Suddenly she found herself sitting in the forest. She shivered from the cold, her eyes adjusting to the dark surrounding. This didn’t look like any part of the forest she normally visited. She got up and walked towards a field filled with small white stones. She recognized them as grave markers. A few had saplings growing behind them others had full-grown trees. She was at Alonia’s cemetery, Dryad Plains.

Because the island was so small, the deceased were cremated and the remains either planted at the cemetery or given to their families. She wondered why she was here, of all places.
