Chapter 5 But Lewis Yale gave her despair

Having been married for so many years, Grace Gordon had always tolerated Lewis Yale's extramarital affairs, mostly due to the guilt she felt back then.

The other half... stemmed from her gratitude towards Lewis. On the streets of New York back then, it was he who... pulled her up from the pouring rain with his warm hands, offered her a warm embrace, and helped her heal the pain in her heart.

Grace could accept that he had never touched her throughout their marriage, and she could accept that he indulged in pleasures outside while she cleaned up the mess.

But this home... was Grace's last bastion in her heart, how could he bring another woman back to it?

If that was the case, then what was she, Grace Gordon? And why did he marry her back then?

No matter what, when Lewis accepted her back then... she had genuinely wanted to live a good life together with him, with plain and ordinary sufficing. Why has it turned out like this now?

By the time Grace came to her senses, she had already left that house... and was walking alone on the deserted streets like a wandering ghost.

At this point, she couldn't return to the Platinum Residence, and she was penniless... She had no idea where she had misplaced her cellphone. As she walked on, she ended up in front of the Gordon Estate.

With red eyes, Grace looked at the still brightly lit estate, which was actually... no longer as prosperous as it once was after the death of old Master Gordon and her father.

Just as Grace was about to turn and leave, she was spotted by the Gordon Estate's doorkeeper, Uncle Kent... who ran out to open the door and called out, "Second Miss!"

Grace paused, only to see Uncle Kent running towards her: "Second Miss, why didn't you let us know you were coming back earlier? It's so late already..."

Uncle Kent froze upon seeing Grace in such a disheveled state, draped in an expensive man's suit, her face bruised and clothes in disarray. He was alarmed.

Uncle Kent nervously looked at Grace: "Se... Second Miss?"

"Don't make a scene..." Grace said with a faint smile, "I'm fine!"

Uncle Kent, worried sick, immediately helped Grace into the Gordon residence: "Second Miss, what happened? Why do you look like this? Where's your husband? How come he didn't accompany you back?"

As soon as Grace entered the Gordon house, she saw Susan Gordon coming down the stairs... Susan was taken aback when she saw Grace.

"Second Sister... What happened to you?"

"I'm fine, why are you still awake at such a late hour?" Grace adjusted Stanhope Brown's coat, trying to cover her disheveled appearance.

"I was looking at some company documents and felt sleepy, so I came down to make some coffee. Uncle Kent, you can go now... I'll take care of my sister!" Susan thought that perhaps Grace was uncomfortable talking about it with Uncle Kent around, so she escorted her up the stairs.

"Second Sister! What the hell happened?"

Seeing Grace returning in such a state, Susan stopped looking at the documents.

She insisted on staying in Grace's room until Grace came out of the shower before inquiring.

Grace recounted the day's events in detail. Of course... she left out the part about Stanhope, as well as sending an SOS message to Lewis and the part where he brought a woman back home.
