August always felt like he had more luck than the usual person. Ever since he was transmitigated into the world of one piece, he felt as if luck was always on his side and helped him in many situations.

First it started with being rescued by the Revolutionary Army, and then finding his now dead father in the possession of such a good devil fruit.

That luck also extended to fights where August felt he brushed death at nearly every moment in those duels. There were also many other things such as finding Robin, Liam, Chiyo, and now Law.

Overall, he was a pretty lucky guy. So when he first met King Erwin, he was only mildly surprised when he immediately accepted to join the cause. Although he attributed some of this to his otherworldly luck, it was to be expected with Erwin's temperament and his personality.

He had split his team into multiple groups to spread across the large land protected by wall Maria and kill the pirates reaping and raiding the lands. His main task was to try and find the main base of operations and kill the offending pirates, putting an end to this rebellion.

Above most things, August believed in getting shit done. He wouldn't spend his days getting to know and interact with the people of Eldia and waiting for any clues about Darius's whereabouts. He would use his own two legs and find Darius himself before ripping his heart out from his chest, and then the issue would be sorted.

After spending the entire day travelling the outskirts of Eldia and dispatching numerous pirates he stopped by a nearby village to take a rest, ready to repeat the process.

*BOOM*

*BOOM*

*BOOM*

His eyes shot open as the earth trembled below him. He spread his Haki, trying to sense any enemies close by, but there were none.

*BOOM*

The ground shook again, and August believed it was an earthquake if not for the small lulls of peace between the massive trembles. He spread his Haki range further and further, until he finally found the source of what he believed to be the noise.

'700…no…800 people travelling together coming this way.' August was slightly surprised, but in all of the possible outcomes, the massive pirate crew travelling as one large unit did not surprise him all too well.

It seemed to August that Darius had given up his tactic of splitting his crew into smaller teams now that most of them came through with no response.

'He must have noticed something wrong, so he impatiently decided to do this.' These decisions screamed of a man who had no patience, or one that was running out of time. With this approach, they were abandoning the plan of raiding the surrounding lands and going straight to the capital.

He looked out from his accommodations and saw the pirate flag of Darius's crew, being held up by an army that was led by the leader himself.

Looking at the huge army, August felt he had no chance fighting against them. There was strength in numbers, and when some of these numbers in particular were strong in their own right, he didn't fancy his chances.

The small group of residents were terrified, and packing their things in a rush as they knew the danger slowly approached them as the terrifying sounds got louder and louder.

August helped with their packing, as he himself would be doing the same. The first order of priority was getting this information to the others.

He picked up his den-den mushi, calling the line number King Erwin had given him. After his trip to Alabasta, August made it essential to get the line number of anyone he will stay in contact with.

"Hello?"

"Erwin, it's me, August. I spotted Darius and his crew, however it seems they have given up on the idea of splitting off and have formed one large unit, marching straight towards the capital."

"Are you serious?" Erwin asked rhetorically, trying to process August's words. He remained silent for a few moments and there was some muffled speaking in the background.

"Ok, I have a plan." Erwin said after some time. "Can you make it to Wall Rose in time? I can station a force at the wall and fight them there."

"I can make it there." August agreed, "I'll try and contact the rest of my team to come there as well. You plan for the fight to be at the wall?"

"That's the plan. Another Wall can't afford to be destroyed in any way, it would drastically decrease the defence of the country. Any previous pirate attacks have been stopped at the outermost walls, but the enemies we face now are no normal pirates."

August was inclined to agree. After he read Darius's exploits in the grandline, he knew a wall wouldn't be enough to stop him and his crew. The Wall was good against opponents of a lesser calibre, but against veterans with super strength they were merely just a hindrance.

Still, it was a good place to gain an advantage for the battle about to ensue. This fight would be much more devastating than the Germa 66 fight he had not too long ago, so the Wall would help greatly as a vantage point.

"August dear, what is going on?" An older woman carrying a walking cane said from the side.

August immediately adopted a reassuring smile and patted the woman's shoulders, "Nothings going on. We just need to evacuate the villagers because of a problem nearby."

"Oh ok…where will we be going?"

"Behind the wall." August said.

"Behind the wall? I'd like to stay close to my village, surely one of the surrounding villages will take us? Maybe Sarako or Ginkgo?"

"Behind the wall is safer ma'am. The issue should be resolved soon, hopefully in around a week."

"So I will be able to return in a week, that's good…" She sighed in relief, "I grew up in this village all my life. I even met my husband and raised my child here, forgive me for worrying dear."

August gave her a sad smile as he assisted bringing her to one of the nearby carriages with her belongings.

After everyone had departed, August gave a final look towards the village which would soon be destroyed by the Titan pirates.

'People's lives being destroyed…and for what?' August thought, 'With all the fighting in the world, why must the innocent suffer?'

He couldn't find an answer to that question, and he believed he never would. The strong devoured the weak, the guilty judged the innocent, the rich took from the poor, it was the way this world worked.

It was a sad truth, one that stuck with August for a long time. If this was the way the world worked, then he needed to change it.

"Your number?"

"30, yours?"

"50, I win!" August bellowed a huge laugh while Law kept a neutral face, but it was obvious he was annoyed. They had a betting contest on who would take care of the most enemies in their short 4 days venture.

August had won.

They were situated on top of Wall Rose, preparing for battle. Unlike before with Germa 66, they had lots more time to prepare for the attack. An army travelling by foot was significantly slower than travelling by ship, even if this army was full of strong people.

The reinforcements sent by Erwin had also arrived along with the bulk of forces. They were assigned orders to work together with them, and August gave the same orders to his team, but tensions were high and things weren't exactly going as planned.

"Watch where you're going!" One of Erwin's men, a member of the survey corpses said with a scowl.

"Huh? It's you who needs to watch where they're going!" John, a member of August's group replied.

"What did you say!?"

"You heard me!"

The survey corps grabbed John by the collar who clenched his fist and prepared to swing. Just as a full on conflict was about to ensue, they were stopped by a deep voice.

"Stop!"

The deep voice which commanded both fear and respect immediately made the 2 soldiers instinctively cease their own actions.

"You're the leader of the other group huh? Here to stick up for your friend?" The soldier said with a scowl

August shook his head and pointed at the man, "You, what are you fighting for?"

"Huh? What do you think I'm fighting for? I'M FIGHTING TO PROTECT MY COUNTRY!"

"I thought as much…And you!" August pointed towards his friend, "What were your orders?"

"To protect Eldia sir."

August sighed, "Then why are you fighting?"

"What do you me–"

"If you both have the same objectives, then why are you fighting?" He said like he was talking to a baby.

"Internal conflict will only make it harder to achieve our goals, which may I remind you once again that they are the same. We should be working past our differences and meaningless conflicts and working together to solve this problem to the best of our abilities, agreed?"

Both of them nodded, finally seeing reason. When August put it like that, they realised they were acting stupid. They looked at each other and shook hands as a sign of forgiveness and truce.

"Good, now back to work." Said August, and once the two people were gone he began getting back to his task of bringing the cannons up.

He dropped down to the floor, picking up a cannon with a single hand before flying back up again.

At the end of the day, the entire wall was lined with numerous cannons and dozens of cannonballs waiting right behind them, ready to be used.

The surrounding field leading up to the wall was filled with traps and weapons of all kinds, designed to kill a bulk of the invading forces.

A couple more days passed, and things improved. From all the way to important things like the amount of traps and weaponry, to other things like the relationship between the two parties who had worked well together the past few days.

The familiar sounds of rumbling was the signal everyone needed to start equipping their armour and weaponry, as well as mentally preparing for the oncoming fight.

As the army came visible to the watchers on the walls, many of them gulped in fear, legs shaking so much that they were forced to sit down and watch as the army got closer. Despite the preparations, all the morale and confidence they had gained dropped instantly.

Seeing this, August knew he needed to get them back on their feet. He was no Dragon, but he could hopefully pull off a speech that would motivate them again.

"Men, form up! Listen! If these walls are breached, Eldia will be destroyed, overthrew by a group of jumped up cutthroats. Do you want that? We are the last line of defence, after that the enemy is free to do whatever they wish with zero opposition. It will be your women they rape, your beds they sleep in, and your food they eat when they win! Do you want to fill the belly of your enemy, or do you want to man up and fight for your country!?"

"YEAHHHH!!!!"

The soldiers, now invigorated and forgetting their fear moments ago, got prepared to fight the oncoming army with a roaring determination they hadn't had moments ago.

August smiled at sight, looks like things wouldn't be as worse as he thought.
