Waiting game

Adrian Knight

The past always found a bloody way to make its appearance. It was sickening to think that it always wants to destroy the present time. The mission we were sent on felt too close to home. But this mission required me on it for I knew who our target was and he was out for blood once again.

His name was Defaeron. He murdered his own family. He even went to great lengths and invaded Exaltatio. And murdered the royal family of Alitura.

He was going to Terrae. The human realm. Every person in all of the realms is after him but no one has ever succeeded in killing him. Because he always disguised his identity. I sighed as the three of us were transported to Terrae.

"Cheer up Adrian. This is our chance to finally capture that demon. And while we're at it, we can enjoy ourselves here." Isaac grinned as he slung his arms over mine Daniel's shoulders.

"You're just excited because you get to play with all the human girls," Daniel said and I took this as my chance to jab Isaac in the stomach with my elbow.

"Concentrate on the mission; we aren't here to have fun." I was ready for battle. I wasn't going to let anyone ruin this opportunity for me. My beast agreed with me, flapping his wings in the back of my head.

"Daniel, did you contact that seer?" I asked while Isaac was on the floor clutching his stomach.

"Yes, she told me that Defaeron may be going to attack tonight," Daniel replied.

"Okay I see, I'm going to scout the area."

"Don't forget that we have to perform in a couple of hours," Isaac yelled.

I ignored what he said. I hated that we had to perform at this stupid school. If it wasn't for that seer's stupid demands, then we wouldn't have to be doing such useless things. I went to the forest, it was our designated area and Defaeron was going to appear around here.

I quickly cast some detection spells around the area. I leaned against an oak tree and stared at the sky. Terrae was beautiful but nothing could compare to the glorious realm of nature, Exaltatio. But the sunlight was so warm and this place was peaceful.

The humans have it easy here. No worries about the other realms. It would have been nice to be born in this world. The air around me made me doze off to sleep for a bit. I suddenly woke up when I felt a detection spell go off. I quickly ran to that area and that's when I collided with someone.

My whole body went rigid with rage. I never expected a human to be in this abandoned forest. My breath was caught in my throat. For I have never seen a human with bright wine-red hair. The human girl looked up at me and I could see the fear in her terrified hazel green eyes.

I realized then that I may have looked angry at her. I was angry because if a human went through my detection spell, it would have been alright. She wouldn't have been a threat. But if she wasn't human that would have been a whole different story.

"What are you doing here?" I asked with a grimace. My words made her shrink back a bit.

"Excuse me but have we met before?" Her words made me freeze. I didn't know this girl but she reminded me of her. But she wasn't her. This girl is a human and she wasn't...

"I don't think so, why do you ask?" I asked her. I was still angry that she broke my spell but I was curious about her.

"Then why do you hate me?" She asked out of the blue and this time her eyes showed no fear.

"I don't hate you," I replied with a stiff tone.

"Your tone of voice could have fooled me." But her tone of voice surprised me.

"I hate when people trespass into private property." I lied, I needed her gone, and if she was here then she could upset all the other traps I laid out.

"Since when has this forest belonged to anyone and how did you find this place?"

Crap! She knew I was lying. I was about to counter her back when her phone began to ring. She answered and I was thankful that she would be leaving.

"You need to leave now and I hope that I never get to see you in this forest again."

"Who do you think you are telling me what to do?! I can go wherever I want and I know for a fact that this forest isn't private property."

She yelled at me and I let out a low growl without warning. She needed to leave. I despised interacting with humans. I glared at her and she challenged my glare. It was the first time someone could withstand my glare. Everyone that I know of was always terrified of me, even my friends. I didn't have time for this and for the first time, I walked away.

"Idiot" I heard her mumble and I chuckled. She reminded me of her. But that was something I could never wish for.

'Adrian! Where are you?!' I groaned and held my head. Isaac mind linked me complaining about me being late for that stupid concert.

"Shut up, you stupid idiot, I'll be there." I quickly replied and he cut the link off. Isaac was a werewolf and one of their clan's gifts was communication through the minds. Only werewolves could mind link to each other but if the wolf has a close bond with someone, he could tap into that person's mind and form a link to communicate with them.

It's a hassle and a damn headache. Isaac and Daniel are my closest friends. Daniel was from the realm of Libidine. He could control dreams and could talk to ghosts or as he says 'spirit talking', he sometimes could see glimpses of the future.

I have two weird but trustworthy friends even though Isaac is the annoying one of the three of us. I quickly ran to that damn school. That damn seer and her plots. I spotted that sandy-haired brat and marched over to them.

"Let's get this over with," I mumbled and grabbed the mic from Daniel's hand, and walked upstage.

"Maybe you can't remember something you'd never forget. Something you needed to know is something I'll always regret. Now I stand here broken, the love I wanted you never held to. You brought me down to my knees. And I went through hell for you..."

I was angry as I sang the song. If only Daniel didn't agree to that seer. I wasn't sure how long we were on stage but after a while, we finally ended the song. I didn't wait behind to greet the crowd. I grabbed the water bottle and quickly drank the water. That was when I saw red at the corner of my eye.

Wine red hair

Don't tell me that human is here. I groaned and sat on a chair.

"Adrian, where did you run off today? You have a human's scent on you...wait... no... Don't tell me, you were with a human girl?" Isaac seemed to have stars in his eyes as he stared at me. He had this happy gleam there and it annoyed me even further.

"Would you guys cut it out, that band is going to play." Daniel silenced the two of us. And I was just about to slap that idiot. Surprisingly Daniel dragged us to the stage and made us watch that band.

"You were gone, I paid your price. You left your mark, my sacrifice. This open wound, where you can hide. To look away and bite the knife"

Her voice... It was the sound of an angel but deadly like a demon. There was so much pain in her voice. It felt as though she was carrying a heavy burden. I saw has her eyes roamed the crowd and finally landed on me. Our eyes were locked. Even though she danced gracefully like a fairy, her hazel-green eyes felt dead within. She ended her song and broke our eye contact. Her friend pulled her away and disappeared into the school.

"So the human that you were with was her, am I correct?" Isaac smirked and I hit his head.

"Any news from that seer?" I asked leaning against the wall.

"She told me that we're going to meet her after classes." He said sitting cross-legged on the floor.

"That seer bloody likes to play games," I grumbled.

This is such a headache.

Now we had to wait for her…
