CHAPTER TWENTY SEVEN

SCARLETT'S POV

_________________________________________________________________________________________

Everyone was happy. Their faces were glowing. And especially Maria's face. Her face had a glow I haven't ever seen before.

My parents were equally happy.

I was wearing the gown Maria chose for me. It was beautiful, pink in colour with shimmer on it.

Pink was never my favourite but still most of the clothes I owned were of pink colour. Strange.

I was in one of the rooms in Maria's house with two stylists along.

One was busy in doing my makeup and the other was there for my hair.

I told Maria there wasn't any need for this as this was a small function but she didn't listen to me.

"I want to do this darling, let me."

Saying this, she waved off what I said.

Shaking my head at my thoughts, wait....can a person shake their head at their thoughts?... Umm..let it be,so yeah, shaking my head at my thoughts,I looked myself in the mirror.

The stylists were done with their work.

They did so great.

The girl looking back at me looked so beautiful. Her black hair curled so beautiful, leaving a few strands on the side of her face making her look even more pretty. Her lips a shade of baby pink looked so soft and full.

The light blush on her cheeks and her eyes, her eyes stood out the most.

Her dark, eyes, the colour of the sand, looked so mesmerising with the golden eyeshadow.

She looked truly divine.

But from inside, she was feeling the opposite.

I know I was feeling the opposite.

No matter how much I talk to myself, try to convince myself, no matter how much I try to pretend as if it's nothing big, I'm marrying out of an obligation is nothing big, no matter how much I think I won't be affected by it.

But the truth is I will be affected and very strongly affected by it. My whole life is going to be changed. I'm going to be someone's wife. Just two hours later, I'll be someone's fiancé tonight.

And this a damn big thing.

Taking a deep breath, in order to calm my nerves, I remembered what I had thought,

Don't overthink, overthinking leads to nothing. let it be. Just .....just let it be. Don't complicate your thoughts. You are doing fine..

And look on the brighter side. You are going to get a beautiful and kind and understanding mother in law.

And not one of those evil mother in laws you feared.

The step to happiness is acceptance.

Accept it Scarlett, accept it.

Your life is going to change and it's not necessary it'll change for the bad, it might be the best Change of your life.

Opening my eyes, I gave myself a once over when the knock at the door made me look up.

"Come in" I answered.

The door opened slightly and I could see Maria. Opening the door fully she came inside.

She was looking beautiful in a purple gown. Her makeup was minimal but it still made her look so beautiful. Her hair were tied in a low bun.

She smiled on looking at me.

"My....my Scarlett, you are looking absolutely amazing. Plan to steal hearts today? " She asked in a joking manner.

I shook my head at her with a small smile of my own.

"Thank you so much Maria. You're looking beautiful."

"That's just my magic, child." She laughed. We both laughed.

"So ready to go downstairs?" She questioned.

Pursing my lips, "yeah."

Once again looking in the mirror and reminding myself to "accept", I turned to Maria, "yeah, absolutely ready."

I was coming down the stairs with Maria when eyes caught hold of Xander.

He looked so devilishly handsome in that pink suit. His muscles stretching perfectly. Why is so beautiful? It's unfair.

And still, this beautiful person is going to by my fiancé tonight.

On feeling my gaze upon him, he turned his head to look in my direction but I immediately looked down.

Why was I suddenly so nervous?

My hands clamped at my sides.

On reaching the end of the stairs, Maria let go of me.

A few guests were still invited, like Xander's business partners and Maria's sister's family.

But no one from the media was there and for that, I was thankful.

My parents came to me.

"Awww...my baby is looking so beautiful today." My mother said looking at me adoringly.

My father also smiled at me.

"You are looking so beautiful, my dear."

"Thanks mumma. Thanks papa." I smiled at both of them and hugged them together.

Soon, it was time for the rings to be exchanged.

Maria escorted me towards the hall where everything was set up.

It was a beautiful theme involving the colours white and pink.

The beautiful flowers climbing up the pillars made everything look so heavenly.

Even the pink table cloth, it was so soft and cute.

The pink glittery balloons scattered made everything look even more mesmerising.

It was just like my dream engagement decoration. I can't believe it.

God must be really happy with me that he made such a coincidence to happen.

I know I never wanted to get married but once someone asked me if hypothetically I had to choose a theme for my engagement party, what would it be? Like how would I want it to be?

This question was difficult as I never gave it much thought but after thinking for some time, I came to conclusion of pink and white and everything divine. Hahaha!

But really, pink and white were never my favourite but they just kind of connected to me, I don't know why or how?

But they did. They always made me feel good. I was always happy whenever I had those colours around me.

For some reason, they always brought a smile to my face.

And that's why I chose them.

And see how magic works, no one knew about this except that one person.

But here I am, standing in the hall that seemed a ditto copy of my dream engagement.

I am happy about this.

Maria made me sit on the sofa, Xander was already sitting at it.

And wow!! Like wow!! Even on this day, he doesn't seem to leave his phone, his work.

What's so special in his phone?

Like, hey mister, listen to me, Mr. Silencer, your such an amazing and awesome wife to be is sitting right next to you and you are still engrossed in your phone.

"I know that, my amazing and awesome wife to be" he chuckled looking at me,

"But this Mr. Silencer needs to finish a few emails so he can fully focus on his engagement." He added in that deep voice of his.

I didn't realize it until he spoke that I said my thoughts out loud.

Stupid me!

"Why didn't you finish them before then?" I asked.

On my question, he stopped typing on his phone but still didn't look up.

It was as if he was thinking about something.

Shaking his head, he turned to face me, "I had something to do before"

"Which work?" I know I was asking a lot of questions and it might be annoying but I don't care. I wanted to know what work he was so busy with.

"Rose" he whispered.

"What?"

"Nothing, don't worry that pretty little head of yours Triantáfyllo." With a shake of his head, he again went back to typing on his phone.

And as he said, within next five minutes he was free. There was no phone in my sight near him.

I smiled at this.

On seeing me smile, he gave me a knowing look.

I didn't realize we both were staring at each other until the sound of a click interrupted us. The click of a shot being taken, something being photographed.

And I sensed that something was us.

I turned my head towards my right. Xander did the same.

A lean male with spectacles on his face, along with a camera in his hand was discussing something being captured on it with his partner, a female wearing a long floral skirt with turquoise coloured full sleeves top along with a scarf wrapped around her neck.

Who were they now? What were they doing?

"Excuse me." I tried to get their attention.

"You are excused." The female spoke.

I gaped at her. Coming to my engagement, in my function, how the heck she's sassing me?

Xander tried to stifle the smile that threatened to come out of his mouth on seeing my gaping face.

"Stop making that face. " The female again started.

Before I could even open my mouth, she interrupted me, " you have a beautiful face. You should try not to make stupid expressions if you want to get the best shot. It's your ring ceremony."

I was annoyed. Before I could even ask her who were they exactly, she cut me again, I took a deep breath to not lash out on her.

"And you, " pointing one of her fingers at Xander, "the stuck up brute, you should loosen up a little. It's your wedding afterall, dude." She made an expression as if she was telling this all to a child.

And this time I was the one, with my hand covering my mouth, to stifle the laugh that so badly wanted to get out on seeing Xander's face on her words.

He looked dumbfounded on her remark, he opened and closed his mouth a few times before finally closing it.

"Don't tell me what to do. " He stalked towards them. Looks like he regained his composure.

"And who are you exactly to tell us what to do and what not to. I don't remember inviting some idiot morons to my engagement ceremony." He added with a dominance in his voice so strong.

"You better tell me how the fucking hell you are here and who the fuck gave you the permission to enter in my property uninvited? Tell me now." With the power and authority he spoke, I hate to admit but even I was a bit scared and looking at those two sweeties, it was sure they were also hella scared of him, if clinging to each other is anything to say by on their behalf.

"I invited them here." A voice called out from behind.
