Now, how was the way to determine the general directions in the tower?
Simple, just buy a special compass that was made specifically to be able to determine the directions despite there being no natural magnetic fields like the ones that were on earth.
Liu Guanyi didn't care about how it worked and only cared that it worked.
After getting the general directions, Liu Guanyi patted the white tiger's head again and pointed his finger in a certain direction. "Let's go, Little White, go to that direction." He commanded as the tiger responded briskly.
They traveled in silence as none of them spoke a word. This was the case until they managed to get some distance away from the small town.
"What a weird place, wasn't it, Liu?" Adori spoke out.
"Yea, it was indeed weird. I didn't know that there's even a place where the residents didn't even have pockets to help them communicate with other races or tribes." Liu Guanyi answered and nodded his head.
"I know it's weird that the residents in a whole small town do not own any pocket, especially that merchant but isn't it still somewhat acceptable given that they are pretty isolated? After all, the guards' and the locals' reactions to us are certainly not the best and we are in the middle area." Xin joined the conversation.
"Hmm, you are right, considering their response to us. It's very likely that they only traded with the surrounding areas, which are not a lot. So, everyone is basically familiar with each other that whenever there's a newcomer or outsider, they can easily tell." Said Liu Guanyi.
Liu Guanyi smiled. "However…"
"The reactions that we received from the guards were too odd and outrageous to pass on as something acceptable. It's not that they tried to take our belongings by force or force themselves on me…" Adori continued what Liu Guanyi was about to say, even speaking calmly about how they had attempted to violate her.
"But more of contempt and ridicule to the Zahard Family and Empire as a whole." She said as Liu Guanyi nodded in agreement while Xin seemed to be thoughtful about her explanation.
The tower was an unforgiving place, not just in terms of how dangerous it could be about climbing the tower and all, but also, or more accurately, it was even more dangerous in terms of the equality of welfare and opportunities.
R*pe, killing, children and humanoid trafficking, fraud, bribery, slavery, human organs market, and many more, any single crime that one could think of, would exist and thrive inside the tower.
What was even worse, however…
That it was okay to commit any of those above as long as they targeted someone or somebody weaker than them that they couldn't resist, or more specifically, a weak minority group or just straight-up penniless or homeless people.
This was especially the case for those privileged groups such as the members of the ten great families as a lot of them exploited their power and influence to do whatever they wanted.
Hence, a r*pe attempt or robbery wasn't a big deal at all on any floor of the tower, just like what Adori had experienced in her childhood.
But, on the other hand, disrespecting the ten great families or even worse, ridiculing the Zahard Empire, was an unforgivable act of crime that would be punished by death!
That was why, although their actions were considered "normal" in the tower, it wasn't normal at all to slight the name of Zahard, especially considering that they were nothing more than worthless smucks that lived in the middle area, not outer area.
"This is the middle area, the influence of the Zahard Empire and the ten great families should be able to reach here just fine so even if they hate them, the guards wouldn't have dared to speak like that." Said Liu Guanyi.
"But they still dared to do that anyway." Xin shrugged off his shoulders.
Adori smiled slightly. "That's what's strange about the whole town."
Liu Guanyi glanced toward Adori. "I know you noticed it, Adori, that what the merchant said to us as his parting words are also odd."
"Indeed, adventurers? I have never heard of anyone speaking that word. His response was the weirdest out of all the locals. He knew well that we were outsiders, but instead of calling us as regulars, he called us adventurers." Answered Adori with a hint of bafflement.
"Adventurers, huh? Let me check that word on the internet real quick." Xin said as he pulled out his yellow lighthouse.
The lighthouse turned into something similar to a pc with all the screen and keyboard as he typed on the keyboard very quickly.
"Hmm, let's see…" He spoke as he looked at the screen intently while scrolling down from time to time while Liu Guanyi and Adori looked at him expectantly, waiting for him to tell the result of the internet search.
"Well, there's little to no result, at least the ones that are somewhat reasonable and are able to be understood." Xin announced the search result as he looked at the two.
"Then, what does it say, overall?" Asked Adori.
"Being critical, eh?" Xin smirked teasingly at her.
"Just say it." Adori said coldly, seemingly not interested to deal with his joke.
"Alright, alright, jeez." He sighed and turned back on the lighthouse.
Xin stared at the screen as he rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "Hmm… from what I gather, the definition of adventurers is, someone who seeks dangerous or exciting experiences, or a person who looks for adventures, and lastly, One that attempts to gain wealth and social position with unscrupulous mentality."
Liu Guanyi nodded. "Alright, none of those really match our description other than the first one, which can barely fit us since we are traveling toward the lake, something that was considered very dangerous by the merchant."
