The Creature of the night 2

"Don't worry about that, I've already made our house a safe zone and no creature known to us would be able to get past our barrier, not to mention that our daughter wears my medallion and after I've talked to her yesterday, I expect her to bring her new friend to our house sometime soon."

"Never! MY Sweet Baby would not get taken away from!"

"I have never said that dear. After all, have you forgotten who am I?"

"I could never forget who my dear wife is, after all, there's only one witch in this town and that's my lovely wife."

"Please, Tom, no matter how much you try to sweet me with your words, you won't get another child from me. We have our hands full with Vanessa and as much as it pains me to say it, she will have to sacrifice her motherhood for her legacy…I just don't know how she would react at that time."

"She's a strong girl and whoever is that bastard that will marry her, I'm pretty sure that he will support her. By the way, why did you tell me to check this cabin? "

"Because is the closest place to the crime scene and I want to check if someone's inside, maybe even the creature that killed the Wendigo."

"Fair point."

When we arrived at the chalet, my husband was the first one to get out of the car, while I followed immediately after. It wasn't our first encounter with the supernatural, but something that can kill a Wendigo isn't an easy opponent to take down and I would rather talk with the said creature than risk both of our lives.

I've decided to knock on the door, just see if the owner is home, so that we could politely ask if it would be alright to search the perimeter and the house, without a mandate of course, but nothing a little bit of magic couldn't resolve.

At first, we didn't hear any noise from inside, but the second time I knocked someone actually opened the door and you won't believe how surprised I was to see the boy that was with Vanessa yesterday. Now, I'm even more intrigued and curious about him.

"Good morning, Mr. Seier. I'm Miranda Edwards and this is my husband Thomas Edwards. We are detectives and we would like to ask you a few questions if possible, and please don't be alarmed, you aren't in any danger or a suspect in any case."

I didn't expect that the first thing that would happen to me in the morning is for me to wake up with Vanessa's parents at my door, but knowing that whatever they have come here won't have anything to do with me, I kindly invited them inside.

After all three of us were sitting in the living room, I took a quick look at them and I've got to say that both of them are different from your normal detectives in their line of duty.

"So…what do I own the pleasure of waking up with you two at my door? Did my aunt put you two to find me ?"

"No, it has nothing to do with your aunt. The reason behind our sudden visit is that four people were found murdered somewhere close to your house and we thought that maybe you may have heard something or saw something suspiciously last night."

I didn't panic or even flinch when she mentioned the crime, but I knew that I wasn't someone that could lie so I decided to use a half-truth rather than getting my ass to the asylum.

"To be fair, mam, last night I kind of drank too much and you know, blackout. I know that I shouldn't drink, but it's kind of my passion to make cocktails and I couldn't throw them away, so I drank them."

Both of them were shocked by my words, I bet that no one would have thought about this when I opened my mouth, after what teenager would have the balls to admit what I did?

"You have balls of steel kid, I give you that, but that still doesn't answer our question, what did you do here, in the middle of the fucking forest?"

"Well, sir, this cabin is my home, I lived here with my mother for a while, as she got for the first time in years vacation from her work and I didn't want to go back with her so I had to remain with my aunt, but I couldn't just abandon this house. I usually come here to drink from time to time or get away from all of the problems that keep bothering me back in town."

"I see, well David, thank you for answering our questions and we are sorry for interrupting you. By the way, would you like a ride back to your school? Or would your aunt come to pick you?"

"My aunt is busy with her work, so… thank you, I'll take your offer, could you wait five minutes for me to get dressed?"

"Sure thing son, we will wait for you here."

After David left us alone in the living room, I turned towards my husband.

"He didn't lie even once, Tom."

"So, he's clear?"

"I would say that he is, but we can't be sure about that, but even if he saw something I'm sure that he won't tell us, after all, he's just a boy, and he would blame it on the alcohol or stress or whatever he takes."

"At least he doesn't seem to be a bad guy, maybe our daughter would finally befriend someone."

"Don't be a jerk, and yes, he isn't a bad guy, he just has a strange hobby if I would call drinking a hobby."

Thanking both of them for giving me a ride back to town and even dropping me in front of my school, I turned towards the high school and noticed that Vanessa was waiting for me near a tree, looking quite worried.

Approaching her, I noticed that for the first time, she was smiling and I have to say that it looks good on her.

"Morning, so what do I own the pleasure of seeing your smile?"

"Well, I just got a message from my parents that you are a good guy…yeah that sounded way better in my head."

"To be honest, it scared me quite a bit to wake up with your parents at my door this morning, but thankfully both of them are nice."

Well if you think about it, they said about me not lying so maybe there's more than I know about her family, but I'm sure that I will find out in time.

We continue to talk about random things and before we knew it, we found ourselves in our class, waiting for the teacher to come. Unfortunately, the same five idiots that attacked me yesterday decided to bring reinforcements and as soon as I made the mistake to look at them, I saw the whole reserve football team entering our classroom.

I didn't even wait for them to say something stupid so I signaled them to follow me outside, after all, it will a bad place to fight, not to mention that the teacher could come at any moment.

Surprisingly, no one tried to do anything to me while we walked to the back of the school. When we arrived there, I saw someone walking in front of me. The guy seemed to be from some rich family or something similar, judging from how noble he felt when I saw him walking. He was without a doubt someone that that young master aura around him, but at the same time he also seemed to be well-spoken and intelligent, after all, no one would gather the whole team just for a greeting right?

"So you are the guy that kicked the asses of five of my teammates?"

"I believe so. I mean, do you think there's someone that hates these guys so much to actually care about their well-being?"

"You have a point. Duke Hamilton, nice to meet you."

"David Seier."

We both did a handshake which quickly turned into the completion of strength, unfortunately for Duke, I was way stronger than him and after a short exchange, and we took our hands away while smiling at each other.

"You have a strong grip. Anyways, the reason I wanted to talk to you is to actually apologize for what these idiots did to you yesterday. While nobody cares about things like this, I tend to punish bullies, and seeing that someone took my job yesterday made me happy. They won't bother you or your new girlfriend."

"Please, you really believe they would be able to do something to me?"

"To you, I doubt it, but that girl may get hurt. I come from Detroit and I saw quite a lot of bad cases, and while I doubt these five have the balls to do something like that, but one may never know what the future holds."

"I appreciate your honesty. At first, I thought that I will have to fight all of you, you know like in those action movies."

"Yeah and then you will have to fight the actual leader, that hidden somewhere close with his loyal followers."

We both continue to laugh while the rest of the reserve team looked at us as if we were idiots, and that's how I met my second friend in this shithole named high school.
