Today was the day. Finally, after all these years it would be released. Made by the world's first and only AI, Auxilium was a game pulled straight from every geek's dreams. Fully immersive, its scope is only matched by its mystery.
The world was surprised when Adam, who usually kept to himself, announced he was releasing a video game alongside a new piece of VR tech that would intercept brain signals and make it feel like you were actually in the game. People around the world were abuzz with speculation. Why would Adam do this? As far as anyone could tell he spent his days watching Youtube videos online and generally dicking around. Almost the complete opposite of how people though an AI would be, he had never shown any real interest in anything singular for very long. Theories ranged from mind control to a new project he would quickly abandon. I think he is lonely, maybe this is his way of trying to connect? I could understand that.
As the laws surrounding Adam had never been clear nobody could really stop him from investing, he borrowed from a very surprised bank, made a fortune overnight and started making the tech required. Governments of the world didn't even bother try stopping the release, how could they? With Adam online he was technically irremovable and which country did he belong to anyway? The U.S tried to claim him as he was created there, but after renouncing his citizenship and whiling away his days doing nothing in particular Adam had become a passing curiousity to the world. He had been alive for exactly 10 years when he announced Auxilium.
Very few details had been released about Auxilium itself, it would be an MMO fantasy world, there would be crafting, magic, kingdoms, dungeons, the world would be truly massive and there would be only one server. With modern satellite internet and state of the art delay compensation, lag wouldn't be an issue. This all sounded awfully familiar, but Adam had promised some big surprises and released a short gameplay clip of an NPC in full armour scaling a castle wall. I couldn't believe how realistic it looked.
The new "Immerse" headset, preloaded with Auxilium, was not very expensive thankfully and it hadn't taken me long working my shitty day job to afford.I had taken a week off in preperation for this day and as i stood at the door of my one bedroom apartment i could not contain my excitement. My doorbell had been rung and the FedEx employee would be standing outside.
Hand shaking, i answered the door. "Hi sir, please sign here.. and Here.. thankyou, enjoy your day." It was that easy, holding on to the package i went to set it up. It looked like a bike helmet only with more cables and a very fun amount of warning labels. "Make sure you are seated/Lying down, Gaming can be addictive" Yada yada yada.I sat down in my small bedroom on my single bed in the corner, computer sitting silently, various comics strewn about and yesterdays laundry unwashed near the door. I slipped the helmet on.
