I was still gripping the arrow when I entered the throne room. Niko sat on the throne looking bored as ever as he listened to a noblemen complain.
Niko looks up at me a give a small smile until his eyes travel down to what is in my hand. He stands and rushes over to me.
"Are you alright?! Who attacked you?!" His voice was frantic and he was checking me for wounds. I scoff and roll my eyes.
"No one attacked me. This was a warning. Next time I'll cut their heart out!" Niko flinches away from me, giving me a shocked look. My grip tightens and soon I hear the wood snap under the pressure.
They were trying to scare me. That wasn't going to work. All they did was piss me off! I badly needed to kill something. My eyes dart from left to right.
Niko lays a comforting hand on my shoulder.
"Your dragon is showing." I scowl up at my brother. He was teasing me at a time like this. He was literally standing there fighting a smile. I tilt my head at him curiously. He let's out a long sigh and gives my shoulder a squeeze.
"Good. Your eyes have changed back to normal." I couldn't help but laugh alittle. He had done it so that I could calm down. I glance around and notice that the Throne Room looked pretty busy today.
"What's going on here?" Niko groans and drags me over to the throne. He sits back down and I take the seat to the right of him. It was the seat for the Queen. But Niko wasn't married yet. So here I sat.
"Please continue Lord Leon." I crinkle my nose a the way he said it. Lord Leon was one of the most annoying Noblemen in the court.
"Thank you, your majesty. As I was saying it has long been a tradition of joining noble houses together and normally the King would agree of both parents where for-" I let out a sarcastic laugh. Lord Leon gives me questioning look. Niko even turns to me.
"What do they have that you want 'Lord' Leon?" He glare at me a moment before returning to a blank expression. I knew it. Niko clears his throat and looks back to Lord Leon.
"Answer my sister's question." I cover my mouth to keep from laughing. Lord Leon fidgets for a moment before standing a little taller.
" As you know all I have are daughters. I would like my eldest to marry into a noble family that produce males. So that my household will have someone of my blood take over after me." I growl low and deep attracting attention again.
" Are you implying that your daughters are fit for your title?" Shocked I stare at the back of my brother's head.
" That I did not say. But I hoped that a male Heir would take the position." Niko scoffs and shakes his head.
"My Mother was Leader of the Elite Guard. My sister has EARNED that position as well. Maybe instead of worrying about if they are male worrying about which one had EARNED the right to your title." Niko's voice was dangerously calm as he stared at Lord Leon, who quickly bows his head and steps away.
I smile curiously at my brother. He was always so patient with the nobles. Something has him wound up.
"Brother? What's wrong with you?" Niko sighs and turns to me.
"The letter has been sent and I'm worried about the reply. Also Leon is a douche waffle!" My eyes bug and I giggle. I couldn't help it. That was the closest thing to cursing I had heard from my brother and he had done it all wrong. I laughed so hard that a single tear slide down my cheek. I look up at Niko and he was smiling too.
I notice a young woman step forward holding a child no more than a year old in her arms. Something was off. She looked terrified. She was even shaking. I stand up and rush to her side.
"Forgive me. I came here in a hurry and the guards let me in." I could smell blood but I couldn't see any sign of it. My heart stops for a fraction of a second. Then it breaks.
"Where are you from?" Niko was on his feet now. I hold my hand up stopping him. The young woman's eyes dart to him and back to me.
"Promise you won't hurt him." I look down at the sleeping child. His chestnut colored hair was covered in dirt and he was sleeping soundly. He even had one of those adorable little botton noses.
"On my life." The young woman relaxes.
"We were on our way back from the moon temple. The little prince enjoys the other children he can play with. I don't know what happened. We were attacked..I-I manged to shift and grab him. But your Kingdom was closer than ours."
I inhale a shaky breath and glance at Niko.
"You're from Lycan Kingdom?" The young woman sobs but nods her head.
"Please spare us. The little prince is all King Astor has left." My heart ached at her words.
"No one will harm either of you! As matter of fact You and the little prince will come to my chambers. We will send word to your King and let him know you are both safe. And you will get cleaned up and be able to rest." The young woman looks shocked as she looks between My Brother and I. But she nods.
"Brother. Personally write the letter and give it to Selene to deliver. No one else." Niko nods. I wrap my arm around the girls back helping to support her and the young child.
I snarled at anyone who even looked at us.
I had made it to my chambers without a problem. I help her to sit down on the sofa. She stared down at the little boy with worry.
"Once you are both bathed and changed I will call a healer to come and look at both of you." The young girl flinched. I bend down so that I can look at her.
"I promise you have nothing to fear from me." She nods.
Once I had shown her to the bathroom and ordered clothes and food for them I plop down on the sofa and let out a frustrated growl.
The arrow was to distract me from the attack! I drop my head into my hands and groan. How could I have been so stupid! I let my anger get the best of me in the situation and I left. I shouldn't have left!
What had I done?!
