Chapter 32

Jia frowned as Tristan repeated the question.

"Did you hear me? "He asked

"I heard you and I do want to tell you something our Professors tell us, note this down," Jia said as she leaned forward and tapped his notebook. The Knight nodded bent down as Jia continued," There is no such thing as Dark magic or Light magic. All magic is just magic. It is the bearer of the power that will decide whether the magic he or she wields will be Dark or Light."

"That`s kind of philosophical." Tristan pointed out.

"You asked for it," Jia retorted," Anyway, our magic isn`t Dark, just chaotic, and it choses us to manifest in because it can tell that our bodies will be able to control it."

"But you can`t, I remember that. You electrocute people."

"No one is born with the knowledge of controlling their magic, you have to be taught but what I mean is that magic will not overwhelm us, we can keep it at bay."

"Oh, okay."

"Anything else?"Jia asked.

"Do you have any weakness?"

Jia smiled, "Of course, but I won`t tell you."

Tristan frowned at her, "Why not?"

"Personal reasons and for safety sakes. You may be writing this for a school assignment but if your papers get into a psychopath's hands, I will be doom."

"Alright, fair enough."

He then asked her how she would deal with spells concerning the mind the mind or emotions.

"Those are a bit uncomfortable for me," Jia admitted," I`m not really well versed with magic concerning emotion since I sometimes tend to be ruled by my emotions, people like my Headmistress would be a challenge for me to fight."

Tristan nodded and continued to write, they went one for an hour before finally, the Knight decreed that he had everything he needed to finish tomorrow.

He began to put his books away as Jia stood and stretched before yawning and muttering about how Chase had been gone for so long.

"He`s probably buried under Research, "Tristan answered as he turned and watched her run a hand through her hair.

"Does that happen often? " Jia asked as she was completely absorbed in her hair. She made a mental note that she needed to wash it tonight.

"To him, once in a while, for Mike, all the time."

"So Mike`s the Researcher in the group?" Jia asked as she glanced at him.

Tristan nodded, "Yes, but Chase gets the second place."

"At least their studious," Jia muttered as she moved to look for a place to sit on.

"Can we talk about what happened on Saturday?"

Jia stiffened slightly before she decided to sit on Chase`s bed, "I think we should avoid that considering you all acted really weird."

The Knight shook his head and moved to stand in front of Jia," Why`d you dance with Dylan?"

"Didn`t he tell you why?" Jia asked as Tristan looked away. Jia arched a brow at him," So you do keep things from each other?"

"Not everything is shared in the room." Tristan pointed out.

"Right, because me and my friends share everything with each other." Jia said sarcastically before she rolled her eyes.

"Do you like him?"

Jia moved back and her jaw dropped," Excuse me?"

"Do you like him? Is that why you danced with him like that? "the raven haired Knight questioned her.

Jia pushed him away and moved to the window, "Of course I like Dylan, if I didn`t I wouldn`t be talking to him."

Tristan folded his arms and gave her a hard stare, "I meant ,in a romantic way."

"Now that is too direct."

"Well, I can be direct."

"And most guys want to be direct right?" Jia asked as she walked over to him and shook her head heading for the door. This conversation really wasn`t making her comfortable.

"I`m not like other guys." Tristan pointed out as Jia stood and turned back to face him.

"Well, that we can agree on."

Tristan arched a brow at her, "Well?"

Jia tapped hand finger on her chin and smirked, "Even if I did, what business is that of yours?"

"He won`t like you back or start a relationship with you. He isn`t made like that." Tristan said with a blank expression,

Jia`s smirk faded and her jaw tightened, "Who said anything about like or a relationship? Maybe I just want something physical. He seems pretty good at that."

Jia turned and was about to head for the door. Boys were just too confusing, why ask for something when clearly they were just going to confuse you with their answers.

A hand yanking her around made her angry but whatever she was about to say got pushed back when she felt him brush his lips against her lips.

Taunt and stiff, Tristan kissed her and she let him. One hand on her arm while the other behind her neck to angle her just right for him. He seemed to want to go on but he stopped when he realized that the sorceress wasn`t responding to him. When he pulled away, Jia yanked her arm from him and ran.

She ran past the boys in the Hallway down the stairs. She ran as her lips tingled. Her stomach felt like there were butterflies in their but she didn`t dare to stop to check. Once she was outside of the entrance, she used her magic and flew back to the Institute.

Once there, she flew onto her Balcony and pushed her doors open before running for her bed. She didn`t even pause to check if Zoey and Cole were in or not. She stayed in bed, and when she heard the other girls come in, she pretended to be asleep. It worked until everyone went to sleep and her stomach started to growl. She realized that she had missed dinner.

Turning around, she saw that Zoey was deep asleep so she slipped out of her bed and quickly changed into her pajamas before she left to shower. When she was done and sitting at the kitchen table with a bowl of Choco Crunchies, she checked her phone. The time read 12:42 AM and she had two missed calls and messages from Roy and Chase respectively.

She ate her cereal silently and tried desperately not to think about what had happened today. Tristan didn`t mean to kiss her, right? He was just trying to prove a point. But what point? That she wasn`t really attracted to Dylan or that she liked him? Or was it that she liked Tristan?

And Roy? She shuddered to think what he would do when he found out what his teammate had done. He had nearly bitten her head off for dancing with Dylan, what of Tristan if he found out that they had kissed?

She then scoffed, Roy couldn`t control that aspect of her life. It was her decision, not that the Knight had given her a choice when he grabbed her stole her first kiss. She groaned and slapped her forehead. Her first Kiss! And from a guy who didn`t even say he liked her romantically.

He was her friend. Albeit he was a tentive friend but still a friend. So why did he have to do that?!

The next day, Jia went through her day with her classes and she did her best to pay attention in class. She put her phone on silent and did nothing but school work. When she had her free period before classes were done for the day, she left to go and study in her room.

Jia sat on her bed reading her Potions textbook. Well, she was trying to read. She sighed and shut the book before looking over to Zoey`s side. Her roommate had gone to the Sick Bay to get a potion for her cramps and to wait for her boyfriend, who would be visiting her with food in hand.

The sorceress decided that maybe being single was starting to take a toll on her mind. Why else would the thought of a couple depress her?

"Why`d he have to do that? Now I can`t concentrate," Jia whispered to herself harshly.

She stood up and went over to her desk to get started on her Ancient Languages essay because nothing distracted her more successfully than languages from other magic creatures or ancient races. Before she could open a textbook to read, a knock was heard from her door.

"Hey, can we talk?" Rose asked she stepped into Jia`s room with a pink folder.

Jia turned around in her chair and nodded," Sure, have a seat."

Rose smiled slightly before going to make herself comfortable on her friend`s bed.

"So what`s up?" Jia asked.

"So, I`ve been doing some digging since your attack at the Festival."

Jia reached up to rubbed her chest as the scar seem to feel more real than ever. The wound was healed but it was a reminder that she was close to death.

"I put together all that we learned during the Butterfly Sanctuary, the Reserve and rom what your mother told you, "Rose began and she opened the folder and held out a paper that had an image.

Jia scanned the image before she looked up at Rose, "It's a tablet."

Rose nodded, "One of the few surviving tablets in the History Museum that outlined the Battle against the Emperor."

"In there, one of the Hieroglyphic's I translated revealed the name of a warrior who lead the battle. Rowena. However, it was a headache trying to find out who she was or which family she came from."

Jia nodded,"Right, the Professors said that the identity of the Honor Guards were to be kept secret."

"Exactly, so unless someone from the old days saw them and gave their names away then it would be easy to take them out."

"What do you mean?"Jia asked as she glanced up sharply.

"So after your attack, I did some digging and compiled a list of families that were completely wiped out, I`m talking every branch of their family that showed signs of their family's original magic dead since the time of records after the Battle against the Emperor."

"Why?"

"Because of what Zong said to you. You were a hindrance, he needed you gone. The Honor guard had to be gone in order for him to invade the Fifteen Kingdoms. I found out that in the fifteen Kingdoms, there were three families that were completely wiped out," Rose said as she pulled three papers out and held it out for Jia to see but Jia instead moved to sit with Rose on her bed and skimmed through the papers, "One family was the Rikkard Family, from the Kingdom of Illian. Their sons had harnessed the magic on Holy Swords and were the leading family that had Knights but their family started to die in freak accidents."

Jia looked up at Rose," The last of their line was killed in a freak accident some twenty years before we were born. Both the son and father, the son in particular had just forged his own Holy Sword just a year before the accident."

"That`s horrible."

"It gets worse, the second family to be wiped out was the Takon family from the Kingdom of Excloff, who had the power of time passed down through their sons. They were part of the Magic Guardians before every one of their chosen sons died from freak accidents. The last son was killed last year before his daughter was born." Rose revealed.

"And the daughter?"

Rose shook her head sadly, "She`s shown signs of empathy, her mother's magic." She then took out the last picture from the three and held it up for Jia, "The last family, is the Ravencaster family form the Kingdom of Kovia. They had founded the first ever Witch coven that allowed witches form different kingdoms to join. The Sisters of the Raven."

"What happened to them?" Jia asked as she looked at the picture of young girl who looked like she was just sixteen.

"Their family had the magic of premonition and creation magic but their Heiress was killed in a ski accident three years ago. The little sister had only magic of metal."

"That`s insane!" Jia exclaimed as she put down the pictures," How can these families be dying out with the main magic heirs dying before anyone realized what was happening!"

"I don`t know, my guess is that the families didn`t know that they were being targeting and by now, people dying is becoming normal."

"This is just- "

The techno sorceress held up a hand to stop her, "I haven`t even reached the worst part yet."

"There`s more?"

Rose nodded gravely, "The final family that seemed to be running out of heirs is from here but they branched out to Azazel."

"What?" Jia asked softly.

"The House of Norvel, the lightning castors."
