Chapter 4

"No, I am not, I`m…," Jia paused and held up her hands to her head," I…I don`t know my name. Why can`t I remember my name?"

Seeing that her patient was about to break down, Doctor Quin quickly stepped in.

"Okay, everyone, I think it`s time you leave so I can assess her," Doctor Quin ordered everyone. Jia stop in break down to watch everyone in the room shift nervous as if they were hesitant to leave.

The doctor's words then finally registered inside her head as she pointed her banana at her, "Assess? What do you mean Assess? Am I going to be put under again? Have lasers put into my brain or -"

"I`ll just ask you some questions, that`s all," Doctor Quin quickly cut in to stop her rant.

"Oh," Jia said as she blinked," Okay…"

"Please leave."

Fiona nodded at the others so they followed suit and left. Marcellus, however, said he would still be in here because he refused to leave Marina`s side so Nurse Irma simple drew some curtains to give them privacy while she and Doctors Quin began their assessment of Jia`s amnesia.

Jia sat still and waited for the Doctor to pull up a chair near her bed before asking her a series of questions. An hour into the questioning, she was already getting frustrated, angry and sad. She didn`t remember anything, from the last thing she saw to even the simple things like counting and spelling. She remembers how to talk, form sentences and think but that is how far she had gotten. Not to mention, any memories of her past and present were blank. Memories of her family and friends were gone too.

It was like nothing about her had ever existed.

When Doctor Quin was done, she removed the curtains and left to compile her notes. Marcellus was sitting and waiting for his daughter. When Nurse Irma left to get the Head Mistress, he moved to her bed and sat beside her. The entire hour had been painful for him. Hearing his own flesh and blood say that she couldn't remember anything. Not her home, family, friends or anything she had learned while growing up. She couldn't even remember the name that her mother had given her.

His daughter eyed him cautiously and with distrust. His Jia, the light of his life, couldn`t even recognize him.

"I`m sorry," He whispered softly that Jia had to lean towards to hear him, "This never should have happened if I had just told you stay home. Part of me is happy that you`re home and with your mother but…," He swallowed harshly," Another part of me is in pain because this is the price you had to pay to bring your selves back."

Jia sighed and leaned back to stare down at her hands, "You`re apologizing…and I don`t know…how to respond to you because I don`t remember what you or I did."

"Jia, I`m your father, "Marcellus croaked, his heart breaking when his daughter couldn`t even acknowledge that," I wanted to protect you, why can`t you remember that?"

Jia looked away because she had no idea what she was supposed to say to that. She knew that she had to respond but how can you tell someone anything if you don`t know what they are talking about.

The doors to the Infirmary opened as everyone came rushing in and surrounded her bed. Doctor Quin then told them that she had total amnesia. She didn`t remember anything from experience to even dates. It was like she was a blank slate. Rose couldn't believe it, after everything they had all gone through, this was the result of their friend coming back to them?

Nurse Irma then approached Jia and handed over a dragon necklace. Jia eyed it skeptically, " What is it?"

"It`s yours, it was around your neck when we found you, "Irma informed her, "I had to take it off when we operated."

Jia lifted her hand hesitantly before grasping the necklace and bringing close to her to examine. It was a simple necklace with only a dragon charm and she felt as if it was something she should be treasuring.

"Jia, do you remember that?" Tristan asked. He stepped close to her bed and stopped when she frowned at him," Do you remember when we gave that to you on your birthday?"

Jia shook her head.

"Do you remember getting mad at Cole and nearly electrocuting him?"

Jia frowned," How would I have done that?"

"Jia, you…you would have used your magic," Zoey tried to remind her," You wore gloves to keep yourself from electrocuting people, that was part of your magic."

"Magic?" Jia asked with a frown," What is that?"

Zoey felt like she was going to start crying again, she gulped and tried not burst into tears at her friend`s question, "Jia…"

"I`m sorry, but you`re saying thing…. telling me things and asking me things that I should understand or remember but I can`t - I just can`t," She then put on her necklace, "You`re telling me that this girl, Jia, had friends, family and had done things but …" She then lifted her hands and pressed her palms against her temples.

"Okay, everyone, stop. Now," Headmistress Aline spoke up," She needs space and you all hassling her is not helping,"

Jia threw back her covers and slid out of her bed. Everyone rushed toward her but she held up her hand to stop them.

Roy started, "Jia! You need to-"

"Don`t call me that!" Jia exclaimed as she turned to the Doctor Quin," I can walk, right?"

Doctor Quin blinked at her, "Yes but…"

"Good, don`t follow me," Jia warned them before she pushed past them and left the Infirmary. Marcellus and everyone watched her leave without a backward glance before Jasmine pointed out that someone should go after her.

"Just to make sure she doesn`t get lost or hurt herself, she just woke up," Jasmine pointed out, "She`s needs to be under observation right now, not walking around campus."

The girls exchanged concerned glances when Tristan made to leave for the doors but Cole stepped in front of him to stop him," What do you think you`re doing?"

"What do you think I`m going?" Tristan questioned his friend," I`m going to go and check on her."

Cole saw at the corner of his eyes how Jasmine instantly tensed up and looked away from her boyfriend. He sighed internally at the stupidity of the situation. If only his friend hadn`t made the idiotic decision to hook up with Jasmine, he would have let him go after the once lightning wielding sorceress but now he couldn`t allow it. Jasmine was a nice person who didn`t deserve to be in this situation. Before he could speak, Roy approached his friend and blocked his way as well, "How about you stay with Jaz?"

Tristan's eyes narrowed slightly at the grey eyed Knight, "How about you talk and apologize to Fiona?"

Jasmine, Gillian and the other girls watched the boys toss their words at each other with wide eyed expressions. This was not going to end well. Regular boys fighting was okay but Knights in training to be protectors fighting with one another was not something you wanted to be in the middle of.

Mike snorted, "How about you both do that since every one of you haven`t really helped her this past three months?"

Kyra turned to her boyfriend with a dropped jaw. Usually he was the level headed Knight and hated getting into fights with his friends but now he was standing up for Fiona. Looks like even he was reaching the end of his patience.

"Dylan," Marcellus spoke up. Everyone spun around to the father of their friend and flushed. They had forgotten that he was there with them.

Dylan stood up straighter and addressed the Commander, "Sir?"

Marcellus nodded at the door, "Go check on Jia."

Dylan looked to his friends before nodding, "Sir, yes sir."

He left after brushing past Roy, Tristan and Cole. After that, Roy watched his friends shuffle around awkwardly as they tried to find places to sit while Dylan ran after Jia. The grey eyed Knight made his way over to his uncle`s side before clearing his throat pointedly.

"What is it, Roy?" Marcellus asked as he continued to watch his wife`s slumbering figure from the chair near his daughter`s bed.

Roy glanced over his shoulder at his friends before asking, "Why`d you ask Dylan, uncle?"

"The boy slept outside of the window to watch over Jia when she was clearly with us, he cares for her, more than he thinks," Marcellus answered.

Roy cocked his head to the side, "So you can tell?"

Marcellus sighed tiredly before standing up. He then moved to other chair near his wife`s bed with Roy following behind and sat down before picking up his wife`s hand," It doesn`t matter if I can tell or not, what matters is if they can both work it out."

Roy`s eyes darted from his uncle to his aunt, "So you`ll be okay with it?"

Marcellus's upper lip twitched, "I didn`t say that."

"Then what are you saying?" Roy asked his focus now back on his uncle.

"I`m saying, when Marina and Jia finally get better and this comes up, I`ll cross that bridge when it arrives. I`m just glad to know that there is someone who cares about her and knows her well enough to deal with her," Marcellus spelled out for his nephew.

Roy bowed his head to show that he respected his wishes as he looked towards his aunt`s face. Ageless. That was how she looked like. What would they do now?

Meanwhile, Jia was slowly walking down the stairs of the hallway leading towards the entrance of the school. She told herself that she just needed to breathe and not in a place where medicine reeked and people were constantly trying to tell her who she was.

When she walked out of the doors, a slight breeze blew through her hospital gown and she realized that she just had underwear on and the hospital gown.

She rolled her eyes," Great."

Some girls passed by her, eyeing her cautiously and curiously but she just snapped at them," What are you looking at?!"

They gasped and bolted. Gritting her teeth, she decided to walk along the side of the building until she reached a huge green hedge arch that seemed to be the entrance to a garden.

She glanced behind her before shrugging and going in.

"Maybe being around nature will help," She muttered to herself.
