Secrets

The storm continued until dawn forced it away. Jardan raised his head from where it rested on Callie’s and blinked at the sunlight that streamed in through the door. A smile tugged at his lips. They were safe. It was over.

Nudging Callie, he pulled out his cellphone at the same time. As she began to stir, he called his father. He didn’t even hear it ring before his father’s voice was on the line.

“Are you alright?”

Jardan could hear urgent voices in the background. “Yes, we’re fine. We made it to the sanctuary in time.”

Relief flooded his father’s voice. “Thank goodness. Her mother and Jasper are here with us. We were worried that….”

“It’s okay, Dad.” He watched as Callie sat up and rubbed her eyes. “We’ll make our way back to the car now.”

“Hurry. I don’t think you two should be away from home for awhile.”
