Callie turned around and saw Jardan’s parents as well as her own rushing toward her. A few other people were with them, looking around as though expecting another funnel to drop at any second. Jardan put his arm around Callie and rushed her to her mother.
“Callie, are you alright?” She pulled her daughter close and smoothed her hair.
Nodding, Callie clung to her mother. “I’m okay. What happened?”
Indigo looked over her head to the others. Joyceta moved toward them and put a hand on each of them. “I think it’s time.”
Indigo nodded, sadness filling her eyes. “I know.”
“Let’s go to our house.” Joyceta motioned for Jardan who was talking to his father and another man Callie didn’t recognize. “It will be safer there.”
“Mom…” Callie began.
Callie’s mom cut her off. “We’ll talk when we get there. Let’s go. We need to get to safety.”
Everyone piled into their cars. This time Callie rode with her parents with Jardan following close behind. His father rode with him.
