New Land

The night was completely uneventful aside from a restlessness that plagued Callie. She slept for an hour at a time and then would wake up to glance around the area. The Synthians watched over them. Each time she awoke, Pachama gave Callie a reassuring nod. Callie would settle back down. The first light of dawn had her up and pacing.

She had to get rid of some energy, but that was dangerous to the others. She didn’t want to hurt them. The energy couldn’t be let out just on a whim. She had to control it.

Breakfast was an energy bar and a bottle of water. The campsite was cleaned up, and the group was on the way with the sun still low on the horizon.

As they put their backpacks on, Indigo walked up to Callie and put a hand on her daughter’s arm. “You okay? You look tired.”

Callie nodded. “I am, but a good walk will help me. Let’s get started.”

Indigo stepped back but kept a careful eye on Callie. The obvious doubt in her gaze brought Jardan up to Callie’s side.
