The Dream

"I...am so sorry, Kyran." I said and touched his cheek. He didn't open his eyes. "It will be fine."

"All I ask...all I ask, Audrey, is to be part of it. His life, the hardships, everything. I just want to be part of it. To be there to advice him and make him laugh when he is finding things too hard. I want to be there with him all through."

He moved closer to me and buried his head in the upper part of my chest. I put my hand around him and stroked him carefully.

"You know, we don't have control over the things that will happen. And I understand the need to be with him. Don't beat yourself up, Kyran. Don't. You can't help any of this. You can't help his fate. So please, enjoy being his father. Okay?"

He looked up at me, his eyes a little teary. He looked a lot like a cute puppy then, or a child denied of candy. It reminded me of how he had escaped from hospital just to go and get popsicles.

"That's the best I can do, right?"
