The next morning kicked off as usual. Amy woke up, freshened up, and got Carl ready for school. After she was done getting Carl ready, they had waffles for breakfast. Chris left early for work because of a new project he was working on. Paula had to be in court early. So she decided to drop Carl off at school and asked the chauffeur to go pick him up at noon.
It was just Amy at home. She finished her breakfast and went to the TV room to watch a movie. While watching the movie, Amy’s thoughts travelled back to her conversation with her mom.
Her mom had confessed to her that at some point in her marriage to her dad, she fell out of love because things weren’t like they were in the beginning and this got Amy wondering if one could actually fall out of love.
She thought love was supposed to last for a lifetime, to understand and endure anything, she guess she was wrong. She suddenly felt sorry for her dad.
‘Why doesn’t he want to move on?’ she wondered, mentally cursing herself for not calling him last night after the conversation she had with her mom like she had planned to.
Amy dialled her dad’s number and after the first ring, he picked up her call.
“Hello, princess. Are you okay? I’m so sorry for yelling.” Her dad said the minute he answered his phone. His voice was filled with worry, Amy could tell.
“I’m fine, dad. I’m the one who should be apologizing. I yelled first, remember?”
“No, my love. You don’t have to apologize for anything. I was being unfair.”
“I miss you, dad.” Amy confessed in a small voice, hugging one of the throw pillows on the couch.
“I miss you too, angel… Please come home so we can talk.”
“I will dad, tomorrow. I don’t wanna leave without saying a proper goodbye to Carl.” She explained.
“I understand, princess. Do you want me to pick you up?” He asked.
“No, dad. It’s okay.”
“Okay, princess. Please forgive me, okay?” He apologized for the second time because he still felt terrible for yelling at his daughter.
“It’s okay, dad. I love you.” Amy assured her dad.
“I love you too my angel.” He breathed in reply.
Amy hung up after saying goodbye. She felt at ease after speaking with her dad and couldn’t wait to return home.
Don’t get her wrong, she also loves being here. She loves her mom and her baby brother but she can’t help it, she’s her daddy’s little angel. With a satisfied sigh, she switched off the TV and went upstairs to get changed. She needed to go do a bit of shopping.
After dinner that night, Amy told her mom that she had reconciled with her dad and that she would be going back home the next morning. Paula wasn’t surprised at all, she was glad Amy made up with her dad. She encouraged Amy to have that conversation with her dad and make him realize what she truly wanted.
Amy hugged her mom and thanked her for her support. She then surprised Paula with a Gucci handbag she got for her when she was out shopping. Since Chris called her mom earlier to say that he was going to be home late, she gave her mom the Gucci belt she got for him because she’ll be leaving early the next day.
Paula was so excited to have another handbag to her collection. She thanked her daughter for the gifts, but at the same time she felt sad that Amy was leaving so soon.
Amy assured her mom that she’d be back soon and then, it won’t be because she fought with her dad, but because she wanted to spend some time with them. Paula believed her daughter, although she knew Amy’s coming wouldn’t be so soon, she was still happy to have her daughter come anytime.
Amy offered to tuck Carl in bed since he would probably be asleep by the time she leaves tomorrow, so she wanted to say goodbye that night and personally give him his own present.
“I got you something.” Amy told her baby brother after pulling the covers up around him.
“Here.” She continued, handing him his own present that was wrapped with a gift wrap.
“What is it?” Carl asked in that cute voice of his that melts the hearts of everyone around him.
“Why don’t you open it and find out.” She encouraged in a quiet voice.
Carl did as he was told and unwrapped his present. He stared confusedly at the book in his hands.
“Do you know what it is?” Amy asked. He shook his head while staring at the empty pages.
“It’s a diary.” Amy began.
“I want you to write anything you can remember that happens everyday… It could be at home, it could be what happened at school. Just anything you can think of.”
“Why?” Carl asked so innocently and Amy couldn’t help but kiss his cheeks. He was so cute.
“Think of it as a way of talking to me, like you’re writing me letters. Because, I don’t wanna miss any moment that passes in your life.” She carefully explained.
She honestly wanted to be aware of what goes on in his life, but she also wanted her baby brother to be perfect in his writing, so she wanted to keep him occupied.
“Are you leaving?” He suddenly asked with a sad tone, taking Amy by surprise.
‘For a five year old, he was quite intelligent.’ Amy thought to herself.
“Yeah. Are you mad at me?” She carefully asked.
“No. I’m just gonna miss you.” He replied wrapping his small arms around her neck.
“I’m gonna miss you too, kiddo… Promise me you’ll do as I asked.”
“I promise.” He whispered against her neck.
