Amy got into her room and immediately locked the door behind her. She hit her head against the door three times to express how angry she was at herself. She made a complete fool of herself back there and it was all thanks to her stupid hormones.
When she heard Bryan’s voice, it was like everything inside her became cautious. She suddenly became aware of the fact that she hasn’t showered that morning and was just wearing her pyjamas, not one of the best ones, if she might add. To top it all, she was stuffing herself with her breakfast.
‘So embarrassing’ She thought to herself, as she walked towards her bed. She slumped on her bed face flat and groaned into her pillow in frustration.
How was she going to face Bryan tonight after such an awkward encounter this morning?
Amy decided to distract her thoughts by giving her mom a call, as she hasn’t told her that she was coming over. She reached for her phone on the nightstand and dialled her mom’s number. After two rings, her mom answered the call.
“Hello sweetheart, I wasn’t expecting your call” Paula said the moment she picked up.
“Hey mom. I missed you so much. Just wanted to hear your beautiful voice” Amy replied with a hint of mischief in her voice.
“Really?... Or you need my help with something” Paula said, stating the obvious. She knew her daughter too well. She knows that when Amy decides to call her or to meet with her out of the blues, it only means one thing, or probably two things. The first being that her dad wouldn’t give her what she wants, which was rare and the second, it usually turns out that she was keeping something from her dad, like the time she realized she had a crush on Mandy’s eldest brother, Kyle or the time she had her first kiss, still with Kyle.
Paula was glad that although she never had that close bond with her daughter, she still trusted her with the important and significant details of her life.
“I just wanted to tell you that I’ll be coming over later today… To spend the weekend with you and Carl”
Paula could hear the smile in her daughter’s voice and she could tell Amy wasn’t telling her the entire story.
“Is that so?” She then asked, sounding skeptical. She wanted Amy to know that even though she wasn’t in front of her, she was still an open book.
“Not fair, mom! You’ve ruined all the fun” Amy whined, not understanding how her parents could read her so well.
“I’m your mother, remember? So… What do you need my help with?”
“I have a date tonight and… I don’t want dad finding out about it” Amy explained, leaving out the identity of her date.
“I can’t believe it. My baby is finally seeing someone!” Paula exclaimed in surprise. She was excited to hear that Amy finally has a boyfriend because she was beginning to think that Henry’s possessiveness would ruin his daughter’s social life.
“Who is the lucky guy?” Paula then asked as she was curious to know the name of the man that has finally won her daughter’s heart.
Amy bit her lip to stop herself from answering her mom’s question. She wanted to tell her mom the good news so badly, but she was scared her mom would break the news to her dad without hesitation, so this is going to be her little secret.
“Mom, this is just the first date” She said instead, ignoring her mom’s question.
“Honey, you’re as picky as your dad. So, saying yes to a first date means he’s quite a catch”
Amy blushed in confirmation, but she was glad her mom couldn’t see her expression right now because she wouldn’t hear the end of it. Her mom was right, Bryan was quite a catch, with his handsome features and adorable dimples. She couldn’t wait to be in those strong large arms.
“Your silence only confirms my guess” Her mom’s voice brought her back to earth.
“It’s okay if you don’t wanna tell me who he is… I just hope he’s the one”
“He is, mom. I swear he is”
“Okay sweetie. I’ll get your room ready… You just made Carl’s weekend.” Paula said, chuckling at the last part because Carl has been asking about his elder sister, he wanted to know when Amy would visit again. She kept making up excuses for Amy because she was an adult who had her life to live.
There are so many things Paula wanted to say to her daughter about getting into a relationship, so she doesn’t make the same mistake as her, but she decided against it. She didn’t want Amy to think that she was against her getting a boyfriend. She only hopes her daughter says yes to the right guy.
“I love you, mom. See you later”
“I love you more, sweetheart” Paula hung up after that.
Amy decided it was time to take a shower. She placed her phone back on her nightstand and walked into her closet to find something to wear. After settling for a simple spaghetti strap top and denim trousers, she quickly grabbed a few other clothes and threw them in her small suitcase along with some shoes before going into the bathroom to shower.
After about half an hour, Amy got out of the shower. She wrapped a white towel around her body and another on her hair. As soon as she walked out of the bathroom, her phone beeped, so she decided to check it out. When she unlocked her phone, she saw a new text from Bryan.
'I wanted to check on you, but I guess you don’t want that, so I’ll wait until tonight. I’ll pick you up at seven. Don’t worry, Henry already told me you’ll be at Paula’s. Love you'
Amy rushed towards her window, and as if on cue, she saw her dad saying goodbye to Bryan.
‘Why did you take so long, Amy? Now he thinks you’re avoiding him' She mentally face palmed.
This day couldn’t get any worse.
