Karma Urnfox

- "Oh that, we're preparing for a ball and banquet. We're sorry for not telling you beforehand Lulu, and we know you get uncomfortable with strangers but this was a mandatory thing." Mom also looked upset about setting up this ball.

- "What is it for?"

- "Honestly nothing important my dear, just the Everion's anniversary celebration."

- "The Everion? Why are we doing this instead of their family?" It thoroughly confused me that our family was holding a ball for the Everion instead of his direct family.

The Everion was practically the one who ruled over the twenty-ninth collective. In the twenty-nine cities on the surface of the planet, he made the many final decisions and had nearly absolute authority over the planet. The Everion and his direct family had control over most spaces, while they had limited authority over most houses, they had none over the Towers, the Bavel family, and the Urnox family, the Tower masters.

- "We have to because we told them if they held one at the Blolanc we wouldn't attend as we would stay here."

- "Because of... me?"

- "Heh, yes, we would never leave you here alone without family there is another reason," Leaning in closer to me she whispered into my ear. "Keep this a secret ok, other than that we never really liked the Everion and his family."

- "Hehe, ok." She made me chuckle at the truth while she smile before her eyes moved to the two small tubes filled with pink liquid on the collar wrapped around my neck.

- "I'll be back with some food and some replacement liquid for your throat okay?"

- "Oh, ok." I looked at my neck, I honestly forgot that the liquid needed to be replaced. The liquid filled with pink liquid was supposed to be filled with clear liquid, this showed how the liquid had been diluted by blood.

This collar was used to support my vocal cords, they have to be changed every once in a while. Though my vocal cords are recovering, they made this just to be safe.

Mom walked away from me as I happened to overhear one of the strangers that were helping in setting the decorations.

- "Where do you want us to move this thing?" The man was referring to the large portrait of me that was out for everyone to see.

His question caused a few of the workers to turn their heads in his direction with faces full of utter confusion.

- "Move it, why would we move it, it's a beautiful painting."

- "Yeah and it was made by the young miss herself, it should be there for all to see."

A few more workers and servants spoke up offering praises towards me, all their words embarrassed me as I wanted to yell at them to stop.

The man was confused by their confusion because of something he thought was the obvious thing to do in this scenario.

- "Because nobody would want to see her and her wretched blue hair," A frown was drawn upon my face, as well as those of the others when the man began to speak. "Did you not know what her hair signifies, she's a child of-"

Before the man was allowed to speak any further a shadow cast over him as a deep voice seething in anger cut him off. Tilikum, or Boss Tili, as some of the others call him was baring his teeth at the man.

- "It seems we have an unwelcome guest in this household, UuuUu, throw him out! We do not tolerate such behavior toward the young miss!"

With these words two bronze-scaled Novals came forward and dragged the frightened man by his legs, dragging him out by force. Boss Tili looked up to me and gave a slight bow then told everyone to get back to work.

I was upset for a moment while that man was talking but seeing Boss Tili's show of anger and respect cheered me up quite a bit. The only thing from what the man had said that stuck to me was when he said I was the child of, someone?

I know I'm the byproduct of my mother and father but both of them are treated normally, at least from my experience. So who am I the child of? It seems my blue hair is connected to something bigger. Though I already suspected that, it was a surprise for me that I was truly correct and not wrong.

Not much later mom came back to me with a tray that held some food, an empty basin and a basin of water and two vials of clear liquid, and a tube cleaner. She placed the tray in the space of one of the retractable arm's placeholders.

With that, we entered my studio, before I could start eating mom had to replace the tubes on the collar. When she clicked the back of the collar I felt a tinge of pain with the pipes slowly separating from my neck, a moment later she poured the pink liquid into the empty basin and began to use the water and pipe cleaner to clean the pipe of any leftover liquid. When she was sure they were clean she poured the clear liquid into the pipes, careful to not spill any.

Sealing them shut the pipes were placed back on the collar and they slowly once more connected to the neck, causing me to feel another tinge of pain strike me before a soothing feeling filled my throat.

With all of this done I could talk at ease for a bit longer, mom went to the door with the two basins and vials handing them to the nearest servant, telling them to make sure they were cleaned and put.

With all that finished and taken care of, I started to dig into my plate of purple scrambled eggs paired with some sort of liver and meat that tasted like Chicken that popped into a Tilapia flavor. It was a strange mix of flavors, but it was good nonetheless.

Mom had her head in her hands as she watched me eat with a smile on her face.

- "Hey mom... I've read a few books and every time... they mention our family... they mention the Urnfox family? Can you tell me about them?"

While I was eating, in between my bits I would speak to mom, who just chuckled as she listened to me.

- "Hmmm, Urnfox huh? Well, the reason they're mentioned with our family is that our families were behind the creation of the Towers. Do you remember what the towers were made for?"

- "They were made to stave off interplanetary and off-planet threats, right? Oh, I read a book mentioning that they also protect cities against creatures called Spectral Beasts? What are those?"

- "You're right on both points, and Spectral Beasts... I will tell you about those later."

- "Fine, ok..."

Seeing a pout on my face at not receiving an answer mom chuckled and pinched my cheeks then pulled out a towel and wiped the food off of my face.

- "So the Urnfox family is the oldest family after ours, they also have a young child of similar age to you who happens to be in a slightly similar situation as you."

Hearing the end of mom's sentence caused me to widen my eyes in surprise as there might be someone just like me.

- "D-does she also has blue hair, same as me?"

Trying to confirm whether what I heard was correct or not, I asked mom and was immediately disappointed when she shook her.

- "No, there are currently no other Children of Blue, I'm sorry Lulu." She had a sad smile on her face when she told me that.

- "Children of... blue?"

- "Oh, that's what Detrids born with blue hair are called." Even though she was hesitant, mom nervously answered my confusion.

Children of Blue huh? I can use that to search for books about my birth situation, I mean I'm called by a special title. What is all of this?

- "Oh yes where was I." Snapping back to our previous conversation mom asked herself out loud.

- "The Urnfox child."

- "Yes her," being reminded by me information seemed to come back to mom from smacking her cheeks, getting a giggle out of me.

"She's not like you, but she's treated similarly. That child is the product of an interspecies relationship, she is the child of the eldest Urnfox daughter and a human."

- "A human?" I was utterly surprised, there were humans here? Are they like humans from my original world, wait no, if they got here that means they have advanced space travel, probably space ships? How intriguing.

- "Right you haven't met any humans. Humans are a sapient species from some backwater planet, they sometimes come here to engage in trade, or to purchase our exclusives."

"Though they don't usually have anything of value to trade with us they have some strong people, we get to help with the Spectral Beast extermination whenever they come by."

Spectral Beast extermination? That must be what grandma and grandpa go out at night to do every other day.

- "Are they that that strong, how strong are they compared to grandma?"

- "Since they happened to have the luck to be able to use the Flow of Flauna they were decently strong, but they could never compare mother."

- "What's the Flow of Flauna?"

- "You'll learn more about that when you get older sweetie."

There are so many different things I need to learn about, but I'm really curious about that girl, half-human, half-detrid.

- "Ugh, fine then, oh yeah you never told me what the Urnfox girl's name was, what's her name mom?"

- "Her name is Karma Urnfox."
